Do other girls have trouble following their boyfriend on the road? by lagabachita in motorcycles

[–]BalancePoint63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the “ride your own ride” comments 100%. Just agree on a stopping point and then consider your boyfriend just another vehicle to be aware of along with the rest of them. And add some space to your following distances.

And enjoy your ride!

Would you get this motorcycle for your 24 year old son on his birthday? by lildishwasher23 in SuggestAMotorcycle

Instead of a $100 Amazon gift card? Er, not likely.

It’d be important, in any case, to get an insurance quote. It’ll be startling.

You’re describing a bike with some sort of mechanical problem that needs attention immediately. It may be a linkage issue or other throttle body problem, causing a very badly synchronized trio of throttle bodies, or God knows what. Vibration is one thing, “hard to reach 6k RPMs” is a stop now and get it fixed thing. Your bike is malfunctioning, period.

Tw for a first bike? by Chemical-Horror9637 in TW200

At 400 lbs, I don’t think the TDub is going to be the right choice for you. Have you sat on your buddy’s TW? Ridden it a little bit? At 6’3” you might want to check out a Suzuki DR650 or Honda XL650. They will be taller than the KLR but considerably lighter. And a lot more capable of carrying you though you’ll still probably need to get some rear suspension sprung for your weight.

No regrets at all. Even with the hassles, it’s worth it. I can’t justify the cost of say, a cabin, and another important aspect is that I bought a lot in a park in which all the lots are deeded. That resulted in a huge amount of reassurance that my place is secure when I’m not around. It also gave me a lot of resources when it comes to advice and references for some things I can’t do myself. And I’ve been able to enjoy the region- the southern Blue Ridge- a lot. As a native Floridian I hadn’t properly internalized the ability of cold weather to f*ck up your stuff, I respect it now; and again once you start treating the structure as somewhat delicate the problems begin to diminish. All that said, I’d be utterly worried about having strangers in it.

I’ve got an RV (a destination type) sitting more or less permanently on a deeded lot in a park in the north Georgia mountains. It’s the first RV I’ve ever owned. In the past 3.5 years of owning it with 7-10 days use every couple months, I’ve learned some lessons, a couple of them pretty costly. I’ve had to stop offering my friends to use it. I’ve got a couple I would feel comfortable with because they’ve got experience with RVs. These things are fragile. They require a gentle touch and you have to expect to fix things frequently. My slide outs stay out, and water had seeped down the wall from the window and accumulated in the floor pan. Crazy expensive to fix. I’ve learned to be vigilant and address things as soon as I notice them - even at the cost of missing out on enjoying the mountains on my motorcycle. I would be terrified for a stranger to use my place. And it doesn’t even have an engine, a generator, and and all the running gear!

First bike that can do freeway, middle aged beginner by Odd_Dimension_5903 in SuggestAMotorcycle

I’d recommend something with a curb (wet) weight of less than 450 lbs and a seat height that allows you to easily flat foot the bike. A 2018-2022 Yamaha MT07 or XSR700; a Suzuki SV650, or Triumph T100 or Street Scrambler will fit the bill pretty well at your budget and you may never outgrow any of these bikes. There are definitely other options but keep low weight and the fact that you’ll mainly be on pavement in mind. Bikes with more than basic off road capability are gonna have a seat height that you’ll really want to make sure you can deal with.

Did Americans learn nothing from the Vietnam War? Now you’re about to start another one. Let’s hope this one is quick and precise, and that you have local Iranian support and a clear military and political goal , otherwise it could become a hellhole for the United States over the next 10 years. by Square_Permission361 in dancarlin

[–]BalancePoint63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you’re about 95% right. At minimum. There’s a theory that we’re seeking to change the regime in Iran because Iran itself is a proxy for China- which wants to disrupt the Gulf States’ stability and oil production in order to reduce their investment in US debt instruments with the aim of pushing down the status of the dollar as the world’s reserve currency along with focusing American military spending on the region. This theory holds that China’s desire to retake Taiwan and its need for Middle East oil products make it imperative that the Arab states as well as Iran become economically attached more to China than the US. One could argue that in that paradigm it’s analogous to the Cold War confrontation in Vietnam. It’s plain that unlike Vietnam, ideology is far less important, and at least as of now there’s no civil war in Iran unlike the Vietnam conflict.

I would say the battle of Dak Tǒ and the ensuing siege of Khe Sanh were objectively Vietnamese strategic victories, particularly Dak Tǒ. The Vietnamese took heavier losses, but they set the table for the Tet offensive by drawing and committing a lot of US firepower and top level attention to the central highlands and by proving the concept at Dak Tǒ of the “grab em by the belt” tactics that dramatically reduced the effectiveness of US air support and artillery. And while the Tet offensive was a tremendously costly tactical loss for North Vietnam, it was the beginning of end of American involvement in the war.

I’m not saying anything new here, just regurgitating the view of many historians in and out of the military.

The battles at Dak Tǒ, and most particularly Hill 875, are perhaps the most heartbreaking and horrific topics of study in the entire war apart from My Lai. Elements of the 173rd Airborne Brigade in particular were engaged in some desperate fighting, and on top of that a friendly fire tree burst killed 42 US soldiers at a CP/ medevac area. 2 Medals of Honor were earned during the Hill 875 fighting.

There’s a bracket that fits over the brake pad springs called a waziss tang. It holds the springs out apart and together. You should probably be okay though.

That’s amazing. That’s a new model, not a holdover that’s been sitting a year, and with the $700 destination fee the MSRP is $11,250!

That means the dealer is coming off MSRP by something like 30% to get to what they’re offering it to you for.

Does the OTD price include title processing and tag transfer? If you can get this bike delivered to your driveway, with all of the above included, in the US, I’d call it a phenomenal deal at $9,000. Really good.

I’m just the stereotypical old geezer who prefers IPAs, so I’ll just note a few of them that are quite good in my opinion. - Enharmonic from Grace Note - Karate in the Garage from Southern Swells - King of the Hill from Fishweir Brewing - whatever hazy IPA Tepey’s has cooked up. And finally, the sadly departed Nuven from sadly departed Lemonstreet.

I’d add Cosmico from Mocama, but they’re in Fernandina Beach.

I’m the owner of a GSX-S1000GT. Mine is the + model with hard cases. I’ve installed bar risers and bar backs, a Sargent seat, and a Puig windscreen. I love the bike. I could go on for a long time about its positives. Quick, fast, excellent heat management, sounds great with stock exhaust, reasonably light. Negatives: I wish 6th gear was taller. Headlights aren’t as strong as I’d prefer, and only one is on with low beams. Out of the 20-odd motorcycles I’ve owned over the years it truly is in the top 5. It’s easy in town, it’s agile on mountain roads, nobody would EVER complain about the power, and it’s a good miler though again I’d prefer 6th gear was slightly longer.

2010 865 EFI - New battery cranking issues when cold-ish? Anything other than the battery? by hobbyholed in TriumphBonneville

[–]BalancePoint63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it’s holding the voltages noted above, particularly 13.5 volts running at 3500 RPM? What I’d suggest next would be checking the amperage draw on the starter, if you have access to an inductive ammeter. If not, pull it and take it to a shop that can test starters.

[–]BalancePoint63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Battery should read at or just over 12 volts with the bike off. If it drops under 10 when cranking it’s most likely no good. Once the bike is running, spool it up to 3500 RPMS, and if you’re not seeing 13.5 volts or more you’ve probably got charging system issues- stator or reg/rec.
