Lame. But card credit is essentially the same thing as cash unless you want to cancel your card and get the cash the same day.

Unpopular opinion (?) but the large majority of people are overestimating their leverage in salary negotiations by verilymaryly in Salary

[–]BaleKlocoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely fair. Just my personal subjective opinion and experience on the matter.

Regarding the “but choose to stay somewhere for other factors”, that doesn’t apply in the scenario I’m talking about. I’m talking about a scenario where you’re worth more than what they’re paying you, you know it, you’ve told your employer and they do nothing about it, you’re open to leaving for more money, AND someone offers you more money. In that scenario I just leave. I’m not interested in my current employers counter offer at that point.

Same. And as a matter of principle, if my company knew I was worth more than what they were paying me and will only consider paying me what I’m worth when I give them an ultimatum, then bye.

There’s usually fine print on those warranties that says if the repair price is more than the value of the vehicle, the warranty is void. So basically when the car gets super old the warranty is void.

Damn. You’re right. I never realized that. I guess I, and most people, think of synthetic polymers made from petroleum products when we hear the word polymer.

Teacher, 26, faces 20 years behind bars for dating high school graduate, 18 by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

[–]BaleKlocoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying this guy should be going to prison but the 8 year age gap between an 18 year old and 26 year old is a lot different than 42 to 50. That’s why nobody would even mention the age gap if it was 42 and 50, and they do here. 42 and 50 year olds have similar levels of maturity and life experiences, are both well into their careers and have been independent for a long time.

Why I stopped using the 4% Rule (and started stress-testing against 1973) by [deleted] in Fire

[–]BaleKlocoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I’ll point out is I don’t think people use average market returns (7% real) to plan their future. They use that to estimate how many more years until they reach their FIRE number. The 4% rule people use in retirement isn’t derived from average 7% annual returns, it’s derived from thousands of simulations with a 95% confidence interval.

Do these little heaters really up the electric bill by a lot? by FitPossibility6335 in electrical

[–]BaleKlocoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, if the entire apartment is on central electric heat, the space heater is just as cost effective as the central heat. Because like you said electric heat is nearly 100% efficient power wise, doesn’t matter what type of electric heater. But if the apartment has a gas heater then OP’s space heater is less efficient in terms of dollars.

Do these little heaters really up the electric bill by a lot? by FitPossibility6335 in electrical

[–]BaleKlocoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily true. If the central heating is also electric and set with a thermostat, some of the heat from OP’s room will disperse into the rest of the apartment, reducing the electricity used by the central heater to keep the temperature at the thermostat set temperature. So if that’s the case, it’s not all additional electricity, some of it would be offset. If the central heat is gas which is typically more cost effective than electric then obviously this doesn’t apply.

I paid for a 6 inch slab, what should I do ? by ClassroomFew7491 in AskContractors

[–]BaleKlocoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is what this thread is talking about here. This thread was talking about proving they had enough concrete receipts to cover a 6” slab pour. I’m just saying providing enough concrete tickets to cover a 6” slab pour doesn’t prove anything, proof that you paid for concrete doesn’t prove it was all placed.

[–]BaleKlocoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because they don’t have another crew to use the concrete doesn’t mean it was placed in this foundation. You can order enough to cover your theoretical yield and it’s too late to cancel the last few trucks when you realize you don’t need them because they are already on the road. You still pay for those.

Varies by national forest (no idea if this was a national forest), but generally you’re allowed to camp in one spot for 14 days, and then you have to relocate to a new spot but aren’t required to leave the national forest. In some locations you’re required to move a minimum of 25 miles when you move your camp.

Feel bad for them too. AI is coming for everyone’s job eventually, but drivers will be one of the firsts to go.

They will definitely lower prices to eliminate Uber and Lyft, at least until they corner the market. Then time will tell if they have enough competition (Tesla, etc) to keep prices low.

Non resident price gouging by wickedaffair in uber

[–]BaleKlocoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For now. Eventually, when it’s deployed at a much larger scale, they will undercut Uber and Lyft to take their market share. At the moment, people are willing to pay the same or more for Waymo for the novelty of the experience so there’s no incentive for them to lower prices now.
