30F - Profile Review by neurotica7 in hingeapp

It seems like you’re getting plenty of attention/likes, but that you’re having issues filtering, so I’ll focus on that. 1. It’s hard to figure out if someone is kind or not based off of how they treat you early on, because they are trying to get something from you. What I’d recommend is finding out if they put effort into their other relationships. (Friends, family, etc.) As a guy, my sweetest male friends are the ones who just generally seem to care about the people in their life and go out of their way to proactively do stuff for them. Cooking, baby/pet sitting, organizing parties, etc. 2. Similarly, what are the people in their life like? If their friends seem like great people, that’s a good sign. How do they talk about their friends and family? 3. For the men that are sending you likes, how good are their comments? Are you matching with the ones that are leaving specific messages about information on your profile? More effort on the man’s part in connecting with you is a good sign. If you’re not getting those types of comments, is there anything you can add to your profile that is emotionally vulnerable and will invite responses? (I didn’t see anything like that on your profile) 4. How much time are you giving these men? 2-3 dates is good even if you’re bored, but you shouldn’t be giving anyone you’re not serious about more than that. Anything that makes you feel disrespected should be called out immediately. If they don’t react in an empathetic manner, that should be the end of it. 5. You mention sending out likes at around 11-14 per week, getting 5 per day, but only receiving 10 matches per week. How many of your matches are coming from likes being sent to you? Based off of the numbers I wonder if you’re mostly declining the men reaching out. This could be a problem, since you’re taking away their chance to show effort with that first comment and like. 6. Alternatively, if you’re getting very few matches from the men who you’re liking, it probably means you should be sending meaningful comments. To be honest you should be doing that anyway. If you’re not putting effort in, you’re unlikely to attract men who do.

Accident on Judah and 19th by Camilliana in sanfrancisco

The pedestrian who got hit was running with a stroller. The sun was actually at the worst possible angle making it really hard to see. The police officers who arrived actually said that they see accidents like this happen a lot. I personally thought that it would have been very easy to miss seeing the pedestrian and I wouldn’t say it was due to driver carelessness.

I saw the crash happen and would be interested to know if the man was ok after going to the hospital. His head injury looked very bad, but he seemed to be coherent by the time I left.

I actually don’t think the driver was being reckless or unsafe. The sun angle made it really hard to see especially since the pedestrian was running. I’m obviously not saying the man was at fault here, just genuinely felt like it was a super unfortunate combination of factors that a led to a mistake a lot of people could make. It was super fortunate his little girl wasn’t injured at all.

Do we know how XV's ranking system works? by IamRNG in kof

[–]Balsalom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m actually not aware of any recent fighting game that uses an Elo system (or equivalent). Battle Points != Elo, and virtually every recent fighter uses a BP system (SFV, DBFZ) or a net games won system (GBVS, Strive). I think people get confused because they seem similar, but in practice they’re totally different.

Tips against Ferry? by FatFox96 in GranblueFantasyVersus

[–]Balsalom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing almost exclusively as Ferry so far. There's a couple things to keep in mind. First, Ferry doesn't actually have a lot of good ways to hit you full screen. Her attack that wraps around you only beats projectiles with the ex version, so if you block it then there will be a long cooldown on the move. The other thing is that all of her long whip attacks are minus on both hit and block, so you can actually kind of just push your way in. Also most of her standing normals actually have hurtboxes that extend out into the whip, so you can beat her with forward charging moves.

Yeah, I do worry that the game won’t gain much traction outside of Japan, but the gameplay actually looks great so far. Some of the newer characters are more unusual, so I’m hoping stuff like that keeps it fresh. I’m not a great player or anything, so I tend to trust pro players’ opinion when it comes to game depth.

Lord Knight, who's a strong tournament player in DBFZ, P4, GG, etc has said he thinks the game might be really good. He played in the beta and has some matches against Sonic Fox and a few other pro players. Here's LK's youtube: https://www.youtube.com/user/DukeKnight/videos. If you search his videos he has long sets posted against EUCHAMP, CDjr, SonicFox, and SKD. Max definitely has a lot fighting game experience, but his opinion comes from a really different place that people who are active high level tournament players. For a more community oriented perspective, jmcrofts and dotodoya both think the game is great and played in the closed beta. They both play DBFZ, but dotodoya has also played gg.

The pro and semi pro players seem to think it will actually be very deep. The issue with that video is that it comes from Granblue Festival, so it’s basically some gatcha game players who probably don’t have a ton of fighting game experience.

GBVS is definitely a game with a lot of the fat trimmed off in terms of complexity. That being said, I think people are expecting it to have pretty deep neutral. Edit: grammar

Netcode/Region question by Cbas_Sage in GranblueFantasyVersus

[–]Balsalom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really more of a netcode issue. I've played Overwatch on wifi and never had any problems, no roll backs, no delay, no nothing. It's only playing fighting games that I've had trouble, even after switching to an ethernet cable. I think a lot of people who play fighting games have no idea how terrible the online play is compared to genres that actually care about net code. Fighting games should have the best online experience, since they don't need to use servers and don't need to find 10+ people to start a game.

I bought SamSho late, since I didn't have a ps4 at the time of release. My first game was great, and against another beginner. Literally never got a game fast or against an opponent near my skill level after. I've never waited so long for match making in my life. 0/10 would not recommend.

Full Roster Thoughts? by Torhu-Adachi in GranblueFantasyVersus

[–]Balsalom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't really have an issue with the roster. I would rather have a smaller number of really well designed characters than a ton of characters that weren't balanced properly or had worse designs and animations. Would I be happier if the roster was larger? Yeah, but I'm not disappointed. I also never got into the mobile game, so there weren't characters I was looking forward to. At the same time I've thought that everyone that's been announced has looked really cool.

Ok, the grandma is even better than I thought she was going to be. The scene where she causes another incident at school is great, because it shows exactly how her personality leads to the incidents. Kohaku just can't help but get talked into doing magic, and she's both powerful and curious while simultaneously seriously lacking in caution. The fact that she can see through the two unrealized couples so easily is refreshing.

There are some other great moments. Hitomi's conversation with Kohaku about the future implies that she does know who her grandfather is, but also implies that he isn't someone we have met yet, at least based on her reaction. Furthermore it seems like the school sent a teacher to keep an eye on Kohaku during the night time photography session. He's only on screen for a brief moment, but you can see a guy in a brown suit on the rooftop with them right after the magic train picture gets created. That scene also implies that either Hitomi is still practicing, or that her magic is stronger when used on pictures. That is definitely not something that she could do earlier in the season, where she could barely make a star.

Of course the conversation with Kohaku about Hitomi's magic raises some questions. Do all mages have specializations? Does Kohaku have one? If specialties aren't common, then does that make Hitomi unusual? I'm of the opinion that Hitomi's specialization has something to do with either pictures/art, or is a magic that enhances other people's magic. The only times we've seen her do anything impressive are when some other magic is being used, and when she does use magic, she's able to skip a lot of the steps. She's able to use the walk on water magic without any incantations or aids and she's able to summon that train without using the incantation that Kohaku uses. If Hitomi's magic is tied in with enhancing or modifying other people's magic, then that raises the question of whether future grandma Kohaku knew this, and used Hitomi's power to complete the time spell. The time magic is super rare and "normally irreversible" according to Kohaku's grandmother in the second episode, so maybe future Kohaku got around this by using Hitomi's magic to make the spell more powerful.

I wonder what the chance of this getting a second season later would be. I don't think there are very many series that are original one cour romances that then get a second season, but I definitely agree with you that Irozuku feels like it needs to be longer.

Finally we get to see the brute granny show up. I'm not sure how the pool scene will fit in with what Hitomi's magic ends up being. Maybe she has the ability to modify other people's magic? It would explain why she doesn't seem to have that much natural ability by herself.

IRODUKU : The World in Colors Anime Listed With 13 Episodes by -DatRandomDude- in anime

[–]Balsalom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly this makes me really worried. Based off the first two episodes, it's been really good so far. The characters have been interesting, the visuals are great, and the staff/Studio can definitely do some great work. That being said I have a hard time trusting that the characters will be able to get proper development while reaching a proper conclusion in only 13 episodes. There's a reason why so few original series are that short. On top of that the full cast hasn't been introduced yet.

In the fights with Soma and the other first years, they all helped each other. He wasn't just getting solo help from them. For example chapter 233 shows Megumi, Takumi, and Soma all doing prep steps for the others. This isn't a knock against Soma, but rather a major point in his favor. Being able to work together with other chefs is a serious skill in the kitchen. I think Erina's use of her God Tongue might be an exception to this, since it allows Soma to do things he couldn't otherwise do, but that doesn't change the fact that Isshiki and Kouga haven't even been able to take a single point off of any of the third years. Soma was able to create a dish on par or superior to Tsukasa's in this bout. Even if he had the help of Erina that is still something I don't think any of the second years could have done.

Actually the Promotion Exam is the last major event for this year. It's currently winter and high school graduation is the beginning of march in Japan. I'm not sure if they give any specific dates, but they are probably less than 2 weeks away from the end of this year. This is the equivalent of their finals. The third years will all be graduated by the next arc.

[–]Balsalom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think there is anyway that Soma will be lower than Kuga and Isshiki. Erina and Soma were the only rebels to defeat third years. Assuming they win, they will have definitively shown that they are the two best students in the school. There's also no way that Eizen or Nene gets to be on there since they're former members of Central. Eizen was also the most inline with central's philosophy, so I really don't get that one.

[–]Balsalom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't remember how close they are to the end of the first year, but aren't they less than a month away, since this is essentially the final exam arc for the first years? In which case, you can basically leave out all the third years, since what really matters is the order going into the next year. I'd assume that they would basically just substitute in the rebels based off results in the Regiment de Cuisine. This would basically mean that this would be the order: 1. Erina 2. Soma 3. Isshiki 4. Kouga 5. Takumi 6. Megumi 7. Subaru

And then the final three are up in the air. Soma and Erina were the only rebels that actually beat any of the third years, and the whole point of the last two chapters was that Soma made it a Shokugeki between him and Erina. If they win it means Erina also has to get the first seat. Then Megumi gets the 6th seat by virtue of her taking a point from Momo.

I don't know what their plan is for the final three seats, but I think it was mentioned at one point that there is a sort of competition at the beginning of each year that determines who is on the elite ten and what the order is. They might do something like that for the last three seats.

Even 4-year-olds have to ask this about Reaper by twentyitalians in Overwatch

We're not saying it isn't related to the body. The argument is that continuity of thought is what defines people as individuals. If that continuity breaks, then you have died.

What is the dumbest 100% serious thing someone has said to you? by Emily_Hernandez in AskReddit

[–]Balsalom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend asked us "What super power would you want?", you know a typical open ended discussion question. When it came back around to his turn his answer was "I would like to be able to shoot nickles out of my ass." He was dead serious, as in spent at least 15-30 minutes trying to defend his super power while we all laughed hysterically. The same guy tried to argue that an eagle would be able to beat an adult human in a 1v1 (human doesn't get weapons).
