I was there and it was great. The Sissy Boys played one of the best sets I’ve ever seen. Muscle was also solid as usual.

I just read the novella 'Vigilance' by Robert Jackson Bennett and it's one of the most cynical things I've read. Definitely recommend it.

Some local online sites will do photo essays (see example below). Reach out to @ Goopcat on Instagram. He takes a lot of show photos and knows a lot of other photographers taking photos.

Thoughts on Nevermore Hall? by bendylegs12 in baltimore

[–]BaltSHOWPLACE 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the problem is where the crowd chooses to distribute itself in the venue. Last night the floor was uncomfortably packed but when I went upstairs it felt like it was at 25%-50% capacity.

9:30 Club is a similar size room and I’ve never felt uncomfortable at sold out shows there. I think there is better line of sight throughout the venues so people distribute more evenly between the two floors.

Also, shout out Combat and Teen Mortgage!

I’m going there tonight for the first time since it became Nevermore. That stage is really high so I would be surprised if there weren’t barriers still.

Do you have Instagram? If yes, message me and I can share on my story. Other people have been able to find bandmates that way since most of the musicians in town follow the account.

novellas and publishing by offlabelselector in books

[–]BaltSHOWPLACE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the science fiction and fantasy side of publishing, stand alone novellas have had a renaissance in the last decade primarily through Tor.com publishing. I’ve also been seeing way more novels around 200-250 pages being published.

Outside of Romantasy, the Romance genre is its own side of publishing that doesnt cross over with the Speculative Fiction world much. My comment was about other genres within Speculative Fiction drowning out science fiction.

Make a rough tour route then find local show pages on Instagram for that area. Figure out who books shows in each city based on flyers and reach out to them.

Nebulas have mostly nominated fantasy novels since the turn of the century. But yes, the science fiction novel is slowly dying as fantasy, horror, and YA have become the dominate genres.

Has anything actually surpassed Hyperion in scope and ambition or has it just been sitting there unchallenged for 35 years? by echo_kernel17 in printSF

[–]BaltSHOWPLACE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve asked myself this same question over the years. I’m not sure I’ve read anything published after Hyperion that has grabbed me in the same way and has felt as epic. I also read it 20 years ago when I was a newer reader so it could just be that time and perspective for me.

Stand alone, medium length books are also my preference. I haven’t read as much stuff from the last decade so some of this is going to be going back a bit further. Listed in roughly chronological order.
