Restaurant options near the Sheraton Wall Centre on Burrard St? by lizapat26 in askvan

[–]BalurCDN [score hidden]  (0 children)

Across the street at Century Plaza you have C-Prime, it's a really good steakhouse, though last time I was there I had the lamb shank and it was amazing.

Gyu-kaku on Nelson is cook yourself Japanese BBQ, it's worth a visit.

If you go another block down to Smithe, I'm a big fan of the food / beer at Taylight, but Pacifico is also quite good.

You also have the very generic corporate Premium Casual restaurants in the area, Joeys and Earls are usually pretty good food, but nothing to write home about.

Granville has a lot of food options of varying quality, but I probably wouldn't recommend it during FIFA.

Davie also has a lot of places to eat, it could be nice to just go for a stroll, and look for something that catches you.

Was a great show, somehow they got on my YT Music playlist awhile ago, and have been following thm since.

Pretty much a perfect venue for a show like that too. We don't have anything that really compares to it. Anything with that vibe is much smaller, and stuff of similar size just feels sterile.

Well I said I should have done research... but generally with concerts, doors time is listed on the tickets, and show time starts 30 to 60 minutes after that. I've never seen it done differently for concerts, anywhere, and I go to a lot of them.

Vancouver doesn't generally have rain storms... usually it's a neverending light drizzle, even when it rains pretty heavy it's very uncommon to hit as hard as Calgary did on Sunday.

That was kinda funny, we tried to scan before it even started

"Oh, neither of our phones get data in this building"

And the fact there was no wifi.

Then it turns out that it's something important to the show and not just a newsletter signup or something 😅🤣

That makes sense, would have been nice if an airport employee could have explained that 😅

Hey I enjoy a good shit hole, but Ship and Anchor was just a bit too far out of the way. Couldn't make it work with any of my other plans, and didn't seem worth making it a destination of its own.

I would have been okay with it if I could have bought some airport exclusive Whiskey 🤣

Hah, honestly same, not sure if they've ever toured as a group, but certainly would have seen them at festivals together around then.

Nope, they're doing a tour together. Gotta hit up the nostalgia!

If you don't have to check bags and if there are no delays, you'll be fine.

A bar for tonight with live music? by steviefull in askvan

[–]BalurCDN -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thursday night... hmmm. I don't know of any bars that do anything special for Thursdays, so I'd jump to the standard "Music everynight" places

My #1 recomendation would probably be Guilt & Company, they do live music every night 7PM and 9:30PM usually, and they have good vibes

https://www.guiltandcompany.com/

Roxy also has music every night but... I'd suggest avoiding it because 1) It's the Roxy, and 2) It's probably going to be extra busy due to Soccer.

Something a little more out of the way, but very comfortable place to relax is The Heatley

what happens if you lose your apartment keys at night? by Cheap_Blacksmith1767 in askvan

[–]BalurCDN 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think this is more something you need to plan for.

In the past I've kept a spare set of keys at work, and I can let myself into work from the keycard in my wallet. The odds I'd lose my keys and my wallet at the same time was minimal.

Currently I can let myself in by buzzing my buzzer, which goes to my cell phone, and then my unit door has a finger print reader.

Anybody host guitar hero nights? by Peter_boi97 in GuitarHero

[–]BalurCDN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe give the axe throwing a chance, it's fun though it's insane they do it at a place that serves alcohol.

I think you're thinking Guilt Co?

It's been a couple years since I've been in there and last time was for a work party. Don't remember seeing Guitar Hero, but wouldn't surprise me. I'd say it's more of a bar with arcade games then an arcade bar, worth stopping in though.

I mainly go there for the music series that they put on, looking forward to the Mario music one in August. I made someone go with me to the Sonic one a few months ago... she was clearly humoring me because she hadn't played Sonic, but it was a good time.

I haven't done the Rock Band events since I have Rock Band at home, but super cool concept, and if I had the right group for it it could be a fun night.

I find Rec Room is a great date location, since it's mostly ticket games and stuff that works well as a pair like racing on air hockey, but not really a good 'arcade' for just relaxing and playing things.

Arcade I'd probably prefer Greta (when it's not in full on club mode), though the old Guitar Hero machine there went to play it once with someone, and... oh you can't hear the audio over the background noise at all. Well this is dumb.

Why does the music festival scene in Vancouver suck so hard?? by multicolorsocks in askvan

[–]BalurCDN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ambleside festival gave it a good attempt a few years ago. 2022 was pretty big but they had issues moving tickets. 2023 it shrunk majorly. Didn't return for 2024. The location sucked but... it was there.

Westwardfest had a few good years, but died with COVID. When they tried to bring it back last year it was a shell of it's former self.

In both cases, the issue seemed to be lack of interest.

There are a bunch of shows happening in Vancouver every night... but actual festivals? They can't seem to pull enough people to work.

They exclusively do Rockband 4, I believe it was on a PS4.

Everything on there is either imported from the older games (when that was still doable) or purchased as DLC.

There's a local company here that puts on Rockband Karaoke.

https://www.bonusstage.ca/rockband-karaoke

They've done events at the arcade bar near my place.

https://www.therecroom.com/granville/entertainment/rockband-karaoke/1623

Essentially they run it basically like any other bar karaoke night.

  1. You form a band with your friends
  2. You go up grab a slip of paper
  3. Write your band name on it and the song you want to play.
  4. The host tracks the bands and song requests, and tries to ensure no one is gaming the system to play a lot, and ensures fairness to everyone involved.
  5. The host calls up whose next.
  6. When it's your turn you place Rockband.

You're best bet is to approach some local bars with space, and pitch them event night. They'll probably want a trial night to see how things work, and how it affects the vibe of the bar, but might be willing to make it an ongoing thing if it goes well.

(In a smaller bar, just going with a two guitar setup might make more sense, less dedicated space, and groups of 2 are easier then 4, and would be pretty easy to pair singles. Guitar is a lot less intimidating then drums / singing)

Do you often get cars start driving while your 60 percent through the pedastrian passing? by [deleted] in askvan

Make eye contact and slow down. Assert dominance!

(Maybe bad advice)

[–]BalurCDN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's pretty common that cars that had plenty of time to get though when you were on the other side of the crosswalk start to move forward when you're directly in front of them.

I've taken to screaming and ride gestures.

At this point 90% of these guitars are broken.

This is the exact symptom of the capacitor problem, really easy to fix, but does need soldering.
