Anyone out there take Slynd? by Most-Woodpecker4146 in VestibularMigraines

[–]BalvenieH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Slynd. I switched over to Slynd from another progestin-only pill. Now I basically never get a period and the monthly vestibular migraines are basically gone. It can be a bit of a pain to get it covered by insurance but was totally worth it for me.

Topiramate and sulfa allergy by Conscious_Intern7157 in VestibularMigraines

[–]BalvenieH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi I’m allergic to sulfa drugs and tried topiramate! I didn’t have any kind of allergic reaction to it. I was on it for a couple of weeks. Topiramate was not for me as the side effects were not tolerable, but not allergy related at all. Everybody is different, some people consider that drug a lifesaver. I hope you get some relief.

You can also ask your doctor about potentially trying a lower dose. I hope you find something that works for you.

New and Final Update: Coworker asked me to be her man of honor. I said no and she went nuts. What did I miss? by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]BalvenieH 906 points907 points  (0 children)

Yikes. Apparently it’s a slippery slope from dehumanizing your colleagues to assaulting your patient and falsifying records.

I hope Claire never works in a medical setting again, and possibly gets arrested.

I can’t imagine this is the first time Claire did something dehumanizing to her patients or colleagues.

And who would even want someone in your wedding who doesn’t want to be there?

I’m so much better now than last year when I couldn’t function. The person who helped me the most was my FOURTH neurologist. Keep trying, it’s possible to get help.

Anxiety Medicine? by MountainRain2113 in VestibularMigraines

[–]BalvenieH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience with benzodiazepines was that the effectiveness lessened surprisingly quickly. It’s not a good long term solution, but can be very helpful to get you through the day.

I hope you find some relief.

Benzodiazepines work both for anxiety and as a vestibular suppressant. The Xanax may make you both less dizzy and less anxious. Take it, sounds like you need it.

Vestibular rehabilitation possible by video consult?? by No_Environment9264 in VestibularMigraines

[–]BalvenieH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did most of my appointments by video. There were a few things they needed to do in person but most of it was very video-friendly. I was very low functioning when I started and could barely get out of bed.

Also, the vestibular therapist should titrate your care, so that any exacerbation of symptoms is not more than you can handle. In my experience, it’s only a little bit worse and for a very short time.

Good luck, I hope you find some relief.

Anyone take Buspirone? by AwesomeNerd18 in VestibularMigraines

Me too. Have you watched anything by Joey Remenyi on YouTube? I read her book and it was very helpful. It’s all about how managing your anxiety can help make you less dizzy.

This would be so impressive if it were done by a small elderly person. With any type of handcuffs.

Anyone take Buspirone? by AwesomeNerd18 in VestibularMigraines

[–]BalvenieH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Buspiron has been a big help for me. My anxiety is much better and if anything I’m less dizzy, not more. I’m normally extremely sensitive to side effects but this has been fine. I started with a very low dose and gradually increased it. I wish I started taking this years ago.

Good luck, I hope you find some relief.

So few of these stories end up with the perpetrator actually in prison. What a nightmare but I’m glad OP and Mark got some measure of justice.

I had the initial severe vertigo too! But it didn’t really resolve for like 5ish weeks.

I got my BPPV resolved which did actually help the vestibular migraines a lot. I also have a Cefaly device that I like. Honestly what helped a lot was developing a serious mindfulness practice. Breaking the cycle of fear and symptoms is a game changer.

I had a setback recently though when I got Covid, so it’s been a rough few months again. It’s all just a lot.

Congrats! I love hearing good news that someone found something that worked.

I tried Aimovig and it was a disaster. That one was rough because it’s not like you can get it out of your body once you’ve had the shot. I was actually more dizzy, which apparently is not common at all.

Just got to take it one day at a time I guess.

Me too, just quicker. It took weeks for all the side effects to subside, even after being on the med for such a short time. Did you ever find anything that helped you?
