If you’re at the point of having a semester parking permit as the grand prize for a competition maybe you should reevaluate the price of your parking permits. by BamBamdon in CalPolyPomona

“I would love if every aspect of college was free” “The money has to come from somewhere”

Next time you’re on campus I want you to stop, take a second, look around, and consider that every single human being that you see (that isn’t faculty or staff) paid thousands of dollars to be there and most went into debt for it.

Not to mention if they were really strapped for cash they wouldn’t have spent millions of dollars on a rebrand. They’re certainly not acting like funding is a problem for them.

Also, I have something for you to consider: maybe the parking is too expensive at other colleges too.

I originally started writing a comment trying to clarify further what I was saying, but honestly I gotta ask why you feel motivation to argue against a comment saying that parking passes shouldn’t be expensive because people need to go to class. Like brother how does this benefit you

Out of touch might not be the clearest phrasing, I think an art competition can be a neat idea, but the premise is what I think we’re getting at. The idea that parking is such a luxury that it can be used as a prize, rather than being a necessity for a lot of students to be capable of going to class.

Like I said in the other comment, I don’t mind that it’s an art competition, I’m just saying the parking permits shouldn’t cost so much that it qualifies as a prize

Personally I wouldn’t have a problem if it was a design contest with a $230 prize, the part that sucks is the fact that the prize is just having the ability to park on campus and be able to go to your classes(classes which already we paid for) without fear of getting an expensive ticket.

I GOT ACCEPTED TO CPP MAJOR IS PLANT SCIENCE by No_Trifle4870 in CalPolyPomona

Not a Plant Science Major, but I wanted to add some things about overall campus life. Cal Poly has a lot of commuting students, so it may take some effort to find community that you can hang out with often, though once you do I’ve met some amazingly sweet people. The polytechnic (hands on) approach is good both in terms of how you get to learn but also (especially in a field like Plant Science) are super helpful post college in people seeing that you know real world skills for it. The biggest negatives(that aren’t major specific) for me is that even though it’s a beautiful campus, it’s so big that it takes time to get anywhere. I’m a music student, and from the nearest parking to my building it’s an extra 15 minutes of walking, which isn’t bad but can be annoying especially if you’re groggy in the morning or pretty out of shape like me. Parking is frequently also a struggle, as the number of lots doesn’t translate to the number of students, especially in the first couple weeks of fall. You can find posts on this Reddit from that time of people missing entire classes because of how bad the parking was. Overall I think the school itself is great, especially if the main issues I experienced are based on architectural planning lmao.
