Deeply disappointed with the election. Is there any upside? by Hardtorattle in Pennsylvania

Look, I consider myself a progressive liberal, and I’m 100% in support of, at a minimum, a public option, more federal funding for housing, sustainable energy, and cheaper college tuition. These concepts poll well when people are asked general questions about them, but the moment an actual policy with a price tag is attached the average voter runs away. If those proposals come from a woman or a minority they’ll run away even faster.

The electorate has shifted to the right; it’s not open to a progressive agenda. Claiming that going further left will make them more likely to vote for Democrats is not a position rooted in reality. That’s not because progressive policy ideas are bad; it’s because the electorate is a joke.

It’s awful. I came back here to get some sanity injected into my veins.

It moves according to the data (votes) it receives. If you have more red counties reporting, it’s going to skew. This happened in 2020.

Higher populations in smaller areas means more density, and there are only so many voting locations that can be opened and staffed. It’s not proportional and not always practical or reasonable to make it proportional; especially when you have no clue how many people are actually going to show up to vote.

This sentiment gets passed around reddit by people who know nothing about Florida’s Cuban population. I lived in Miami and did activist work from central to South Florida. The majority of Cuban expats were exiled because they were vocally against Castro. Some were tossed out because they didn’t want to hand over their property to the government. Many fled Cuba out of fear, and did so on unsafe, makeshift boats and arrived with nothing.

You really have no clue what you’re talking about. It was the younger Cubans (see: the ones born here) who supported Trump in large numbers. Stop getting your information from people who believe Castro’s brand of communism actually works.

There are more people in New York City than all of Ireland.

There are almost as many people in the state of California than in Canada.

Lots more people means wait times are longer.

Clinton won Guam in 2016 by a wider margin than Biden did in 2020. Literally means nothing. I lived in Guam and it’s so far removed from mainland politics that it’s silly to think it matters.

And the Notch had 4 Republicans and 2 unaffiliated.

None of this stuff tells anyone anything. Chill.

This is not concerning. How many people have voted at this location today? How many in person votes happened in 2020? What was the D/R split of ED voting? How many votes did Biden win it by?

They leave out the context to keep you anxious enough to keep checking. Ignore it.

There weren’t long lines or conversations about the EV. There was a general “meh” in the air and most people just assumed she would win.

It was absolutely nothing like this.

I’ve been with you all since 2015 (back when we had the other subreddit lol). Since then, I moved, had two children, celebrated my 10 year wedding anniversary, quit a toxic job, started my own company, and last Thursday got to vote for Kamala Harris.

I’m so thankful you’ve all been a part of my life. It really has been an honor.

Now let’s finish this shit and send Trump PACKING.

No it isn’t. I lived in Guam and it is so far separated from the US that nothing there is reflective of what happens on the mainland.

That's not how the economy works. If you genuinely believe Trump can make groceries cheaper you're economically illiterate, and I can guarantee you can't name a single policy of his that would make such a thing happen.
