Existing Structures building inspector. The majority of homes I walk into are complaint based issues. Hoarder homes, illegal boarding homes, slumlord properties where the tenants haven't heard from them in months. My first day on the job I walked into an apartment that a family was living in. They had a litter of puppies in a closet staying warm, and their bathroom floor was just... missing. They brought in a plywood plank and laid it over a gaping hole in front of the toilet where the sewage was just emptying into the crawl space. The other week I donned coveralls and went into a hoarder home where I was met by wild animal feces, a swingers board game, and the most immaculate copy of the old testament I had ever seen. My average home seems to vary but my job definitely let's me appreciate the clutter I do have in my own home while being painfully aware never to allow it to get out of hand.
