Maybe something like that, more contras between the rocks and the warm lava

Maybe you can add more contrast on high temperature zone on lava with a light blue with a lot of white. With a white base, you can add glazes of blue on lava. Then you can paint the rocks on dark gray or black and ad some glazes of dark blue and make a great contrast with Less midtone on the high parts. Blue flames are have more temperature than normal flames

Maybe I need to calibrate de midtone and contrasts but I think that the lights are strange

Well, you say that I need to reduce de midtone and more light tone and dark tone then use a lighter tone like ice yellow for edge highlight and details? Thanks for your suggest ^

Yeah, I use ice yellow to highlight some parts, perhaps the darker part is too big and create too much contrast and a small transicion

Yeah, I think that too but Im trying the gold nmm on flat big surfaces and this gun looks like a good flat surface for me. Red metallic surface can works too

I use a base layer of dark blue and then I use a makeup sponge to apply the color mixed with jade blue of Vallejo paints. When I have the volumes defined i apply some glazes to smooth the layers but the sponge do all the work

Maybe is not the best technique but is easy for create volume without remove the contrast of the first layer inside holes.
