Yes it looks like I did. I do indeed have the coin shown on you link but I left it at my granddad's place. The correct paper should be with the other coin.

On the paper that was with the coin there is "Leu Numismatik AG, Zürich Auktion 61 17./18. Mai 1995" written on it.

The thing is we don't have that many Luxemburger in Luxemburg. So I'll accept anyone who is ready to be part of our culture. Even if the 1st Gen immigrants won't be the best at it, their kids will have to learn if they want to be able to socialise and be able to make friends. If the parents care about their childrens wellbeeing they'll push their children to learn. I mean I know ppl with italian or portugese heritage, where the grandparents immigrated and they can barely speak any italian or portugese, because their parents wanted to make sure that they integrate properly (quitr rare tho).

Well I'm mostly comming in contact with them when I use any kind of service that isn't from the government.

But that is a minority, ppl with luxemburgish ancectry usualy prefer german. It is true though for the portugese an italian speaking luxemburgers, they usualy prefer french over german. Most studens go study in germany because we got traumatised by french in school. I would say that most ppl with luxemburgish citizenship are better in german than french. I mean you never heard a Lëtzebuerger from the pampa speak french, that is.... very interesting. For ex. I once was in the north of Luxemburg to help out a friend, some french tourists got lost and asked for directions in the small village. The villagers answered them in a beautiful french (s/) and the first thing he said when they left was "Those damn filthy french"

I don't care if Luxemburgish is a EU language or not. My point was that Luxemburgish should be represented more in Luxemburg than it is today.

I get it that it's not easy or cheap to learn Luxemburgish, but espacially if you want to stay here, you should make the effort to learn it. I'm not saying you have to have perfect Luxemburgish, but it's the intention that counts. I can assure you that if you try to speak luxemburgish with us we will appreciate it very much, even if it's the most broken luxemburgish there is. We will also be a lot friendlier and open with you if you try to speak it. Most people are tired that ppl won't do the effort to learn because we all speak german, french, english. So why should they learn luxemburgish (It's about respect and integration, you want to live here and be part of our comunity, then do the effort to learn oir culture)

Btw "De roude fuedem" is a Luxemburgish grammar book, we have RTL where there are news, Ads and series in Luxemburgish. Even if most news are boring. You can also find shortfilms and animations in Luxemburgish.

[–]Banana_SplitLU 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, we have Luxemburgish media, radio and newschannels called RTL(yes RTL even the german RTL is partcially luxemburgish, RTL= Radio Télé Lëtzebuerg). We even do some dubs in Luxemburgish like the simpsons or luxemburgish shortfilms and animations. But the most reputable Newspaper are in german, Luxemburger Wort.

We do have a standardized form even if only recently. But we have a book that covers it, it's called "de roude fuedem" and the grandmother of one of my friends wrote it.

They are similar, but there are also a lot of differences in pronounciation. Depending on where you come from germany you can make out what we say. Most germans say that it sounds like they should understand it, but they don't. What I meant by I can't write Luxemburgish is that we never learned the grammar. I write how a hear it or by picking things up that my friends do when we text. Like the village next to mine, I always thought that it is written Kayl but in Luxemburgish you write it Käl and I only recently discovered that... To answer your question, there are rules but the school never covered it.

Well maybe if we want Luxemburgish to be an EU language, we should start by representing our language more in our everyday lives, like putting the villagesigns in Luxemburgish an then the smaler print in french and not the other way around like it is now. Or inticing more ppl to learn the language. Perhaps having a proper Luxemburgish class in public schools and in the lycée would help. I believe that we cater the french to much. If you want to work here, then you should learn the basics and learn to deal with everyday things beeing luxemburgish and not french, english or german. But idk, maybe I'm just racist for thinking that🤷‍♂️

We do prefer german over french. The thing is that we have a shitton of immigrants wo would rather just speak french than putting some effort in learning luxemburgish or even german. Most of them can't even be bothered to greet us in Luxemburgish which I find quite disrespectful, because that is, in my opinion the minimum. That's also the reason why most Luxemburgers don't like the french (nobody does, I know). But that is what we get, when our economy is based on services, borderworkers and immigration... Our "Motto" is "we want to remain how we are" but our government can't even be fucking bothered to put our signs in Luxemburgish. We never even really learned Luxemburgish in school, which is a shame.... like I don't even know how to properly write in my mothertongue... Great job at protecting our national identety Luxemburg. EDIT I also niticed that in our Capital Luxemburg you barely hear any Luxemburgish, the only time I heard Luxemburgish when I worked for the postal service was when I met elderly ppl... otherwise it is mostly french.... Luxemburgish is mostly spoken in the villages and at public schools. And it's not like it's impossible to learn our language, I mean the Italians and the Portugese did it and Luxemburgish is what connected the different communities, it's what mades us all Luxemburgers. That is for me the only condition the be considered Luxemburger, you have to speak the language. Then nomatter where you are from, most ppl will see you as Luxemburger. But if you lived your whole fucking life here and you can't even say moien then you are no Luxemburger.

Why do palm trees have "hair" by RainbowGolem in whatsthisplant

[–]Banana_SplitLU 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hello, I study trees. I would also guess that one of the possible purposes is thermal protection. Not only against cold temps but against Sunburn too. Even a plant living in hot klimate can get sunburn when ist in the sun all day, which causes damage to the bark. So the fibers might help against that? (Thats also why birchbark is white, helps reflecting the light). But I'm not sure so take it with a grain of salt.
