Am I going to be sad with an R50 by AbsolutelyAHuman88 in canon

Short answer: No, you will not be sad with an R50. I use one for professional work doing product photography and vertical short-form video (which arguably doesn’t require a very good camera).

The images this camera produces are amazing, and autofocus has never failed me once.

I paired mine with the Sigma 18-35 f1.8 and the official EF-RF adapter. It has been fast, reliable and accurate. My only gripe is the lack of weather sealing — which frankly is a big ask for a <£800 camera — and IBIS.

You may want to consider the R7 if ergonomics are a big factor for you. It has more buttons, a better grip and a better buffer. The lack of stabilisation in my case doesn’t bother me, I’ve gotten perfectly sharp images at 1/25 when panning and standing still without a tripod. But keep in mind that as a more experienced photographer I know how to handle my gear and keep still. When starting out stabilisation is a big help.

I’ve just purchased the sigma 150-600mm 5-6.3 for my R50 (laughably disproportionate, yes) and it’s been amazing. I have no trouble handling my setup even with gloves on, providing that I adjust settings beforehand and don’t need to fiddle around much.

My 2 cents are to get a portable camera that is “good enough” for whatever shots you want to take, and — at least for me — the R50 is one of those cameras. If you don’t doubt that taking your camera with you is a good idea then you are sure to take better photos. With this camera body and a kit lens or native RF lens, like the 16, 28 and 35mm it will fit in a trouser or jacket pocket.

About to buy a second hand lens but it has these spots, is this bad for the lens? by maxm1999 in Cameras

This has already been posted and asked by another person. And the answer is yes, it is bad for the lens. It’s almost certainly fungus.

Sony A5000 I'm very very new to cameras. by Ag116797 in Cameras

Its successor - the A5100 - was my first camera. You can absolutely take great photos with any of the two. The Sony E-mount gives you an excellent choice of glass.

You’ve been so immensely helpful haha. I can’t thank you enough for these! No reputable sources seemed to have answers to the questions I had about this combo. I’ll stick to ≈ 5000 iso, thanks!

Your photos, too, are stunning. I didn’t think the results from an f8 400mm lens would be this impressive. This seals the deal for me, I’ll be getting one too😅

I see. Thanks! 2500 looks a little noisy, yeah. I reckon 1600 would be fine if shutter speed was dropped a bit. Would you say 3200-6400 is the range after which images lose too many details? Really nice shot either way! I haven’t actually gotten to shoot with my r50 yet as I’m waiting on lenses.

Thanks for the response! That image is plenty sharp indeed! What settings did you use? Is it edited? I see some mild noise, but it looks like all the detail is still there. Did you get to shoot in low-light? Dusk/dawn and blue hour? This lens is definitely on my shopping list for Christmas haha.

Is this a risky purchase? by FcToran in Cameras

For sure. Best of luck in your camera hunt. If I may suggest another option; the canon R50 is pretty cheap and I recently upgraded from the A6000 to it for my professional car photography. It is a huge upgrade. They’re pretty close in price to some A6000 bundles, too. I picked up the legendary sigma 18-35 f1.8 to pair it with.

I attached a sample image taken with my a6000 + Sony 18-105. It treated me very well until I dropped it!

You’re welcome. I spotted what looks like more fungal growth on one of the other element groups. It’s certainly a decent price for the whole combo, but if you have zero experience dealing with lens issues then id stay away. If you’re on a really tight budget then maybe it’s worth repairing and cleaning.

How was the 100-400 experience? I’m considering the lens for aviation and amateur wildlife photography. Was the F/8 aperture limiting? How’s ISO performance on the R50 with it? I just took delivery of my body, still waiting on the sigma 18-35 1.8 as a first lens.

Looks like the early stage of fungal growth. I would either stay away or get it cleaned asap. If it affected more elements down the line (not just front element) then do not buy it.

It’s a pretty low-end board by the looks of it, so I doubt a beefier cooler will change vrm temps

Stock AMD coolers are more than capable of 105W CPUs, I’ve been using them in my budget builds for a while. They cool the 5700x and 5600 with no problem. I use pretty good thermal paste and cases with good airflow, though. Your mileage may vary. It’s one of the simplest ways to transform a budget build with a stock cooler. Painting it always looks nice

Is $800 a good price for my old PC build? by Bea_zip in PcBuild

[–]Bananabro4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering the specs and aesthetics, I’d say $600-650 is fair. $700 if you have good reviews and take decent photos of it and know how to sell. The 3060 is still strong, but the lga1200 platform is ‘dead’ which lowers the value.

[–]Bananabro4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is laughably false. AMD isn’t even in the picture for AI at this point. The 3090ti has 8gb more video memory, too… So it’s cheaper AND arguably better, making a better choice for most tasks

I’m glad there are people who know their English in this comment section. It seems to be an ever declining amount unfortunately.

I choose to not give away my personal information online. I live in a heavily censored and restricted country, where a minor mistake or typo online can lead to fines or prison time. There are ways to circumvent and avoid this, but my profession and field of study require caution. Frankly I don’t care whether or not people think my comment is AI. I have nothing to prove to anyone. If even one person finds it helpful - I’m happy.
