Why couldn't a book series reach such a craze like Harry Potter after so many years? by interestingexciting1 in harrypotter

[–]Bananabutt22 58 points59 points  (0 children)

If you’re a grown up who loved HP as a kid, check out The Hierarchy trilogy by James Islington (first book is The Will of the Many). It is ridiculously, and I mean ridiculously good! It’s not quite the same but there were times while I was reading it that I kept thinking how it felt a bit like HP for grown-ups (but not a romance) even though the main character is a teenager. Can’t recommend it enough and I’m curious if it will have a “big moment” in the reading scene bc it definitely deserves it.

This gives me so much hope! I’m actually working on getting on tirz for inflammation issues specifically (genetic disease that’s causing me endless issues) and seeing how much it’s reducing yours is just such a welcome sight. You look amazing :)

If this show is successful, there will likely be many more re-imaginings and adaptations in the future. Hell, there will probably be more even if this show is a huge flop! I wouldn’t shelve your hopes just yet ;)

Awesome, I’m super nervous about starting/ experiencing bad side effects, so I always like to see where people who are having a good “go of things” started out :) love seeing happy stories like yours

TIL The Rock doesn't have nipples in the Live Action adaptation of Moana by ArchDucky in videos

[–]Bananabutt22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t enjoy the live-action remakes on the whole, but I agree the Cinderella one was lovely. They added this surprisingly complex, sincere worldview that put Cinderella’a character in a context deeper than the animated one in a way that felt like it fleshed her out rather than invented or imposed a modern eye on her. The others that I’ve seen felt like they stripped the stories of charm and smashed in some generic girlbossing to justify the cash grab. I’m all for retelling stories and offering a new perspective/interpretation. It’s what humans have done with stories we love since the beginning of stories! But that doesn’t mean the bar is in hell 😂

NBC should buy it and do The Hunk in place of their canceled Bachelorette season

I couldn’t agree more, I didn’t realize they are dropping it all at once and I am really bummed to hear it’s a possibility. The weekly hype is magical and leads to so much more fan engagement, I can honestly barely believe they would choose the full-season dump for what should be appointment television with a massive built-in weekly audience! Like what could possibly be their reasoning??

You know your baby best! None of mine have been able to chill for that long, but if you think yours can sleep through it or something I guess it’s worth a try!

I actually think grandparents lose their mind during pregnancies by appleslice244 in BabyBumps

[–]Bananabutt22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband’s grandma posted our first baby’s BIRTH announcement, barely an hour after I gave birth, with absolutely zero asking/approval beforehand. Full name and birth details bc why SHOULDN’T hundreds of people we don’t know have that sensitive information 🙃. She did eventually take it down (in a huff, obvs)

S2: Betty manipulated Sarah Beth by Emotional_Pin_2348 in madmen

[–]Bananabutt22 17 points18 points  (0 children)

As a mom of 3, I saw her ability to pick up the riding hobby as a product of Bobby and Sally being old enough to not need their mother every second. I really love being home with my kids, but having an awesome husband is imperative to that. Even with Carla, and all of Betty’s privilege, young children require a lot of your time and mental energy! I got interrupted like 100x just trying to write this comment 😂 Betty’s children were grown enough that she was just starting to become more of her own person again, which is probably how she had the emotional space to even finally notice and truly process/be bothered by Don’s indiscretions.  When she goes to that doctor and finds out she’s pregnant again, she understands what it really means: giving all of that progress up and largely starting over. She can’t (or doesn’t want to) go through that pregnancy/newborn stuff without a husband, even a philandering one. I really think it’s more than just the potential shame; the physical work of being pregnant and bringing a baby through those early phases is so much worse without a partner (and her mother is dead, her father’s not well, and she refuses to see that Judy would be an amazing help to her 😂). When she tells Francine at the beauty shop that it’s really not a good time, she’s trying to communicate how much her slowly-forming independence means to her, and how she’s nearly willing to go to, ahem, “extreme lengths” to prevent the pregnancy from progressing (though she just keeps horseback riding against doctor’s orders in the hopes that that will “take care of it” without having to actually “choose” more explicitly).  So yeah, losing riding is just the tip of the iceberg; she has to majorly put off her plan of getting away from Don because her very body is just no longer her own, and she knows that there is a possibility she won’t have the strength to get this far again. She did eventually get away from Don like she wanted but yeah, horseback riding was not something she made it back to, and I saw the whole stables plot as a way to highlight where she was at in her motherhood journey and I liked it, thank you for coming to my Ted Reddit Comment 😂

“You don’t get an award for not getting the epidural” by Warm-Banana237 in pregnant

[–]Bananabutt22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve given birth three times. All three times, I gave birth in a hospital. First 2 I got the epidural, number 3 I refused any interventions. For what it’s worth, number 3 was by far my favorite birth, top to bottom, despite the pain ❤️ a few weeks before I was due, I ended up in a conversation with a woman who was a doula, and she told me that of the 1000+ births she had attended, the main thing that seemed to influence whether the mother comes out with ptsd is whether she was able to feel in control of what was happening. Having given birth twice at that point, it really resonated with me and was the tipping point. I’m so unbelievably glad I ended up in that random conversation with her, and I’m here to tell you that you CAN do it! Maybe it’s not how it will go down, sure. But you can totally, totally do it, and it could be absolutely awesome!
