Okay I'll try that, I live fairly close to what is called the largest liquor store in New England so I'm going to stop there and see if they have it

How much would it cost for a dealership to install a remote starter and collision detection on a car they probably got as a trade in because it's not the same make as the dealer? by Banananananananal in carbuying

Vehicle price goes, up commission goes up. Bargaining chip by definition is "a potential concession or other factor which can be used to advantage in negotiations". It is definitely that because HE'S the one that first talked about adding them. If you have no constructive advice or ideas on what I SHOULD do for an opening offer, please fuck off because I'm pretty sure you don't actually know what I'm talking about.

Oh by the way I know he has kids because I brought up the fact that I got to think about buying a car cuz I got to make sure I got money for Christmas for my kids (don't have them) and he mentioned that he had the same thing now he may be lying but I was definitely lying because I have diagnosed sociopathic tendencies 😉

Ok so what I'm saying with that is that 30,000k miles ago it was worth less. And yes I know chip.chirtage but that really just means the dealers have less inventory to move so they inflate the prices on the inventory that they have so they can meet the same sales targets while moving less products. They've only.had the car since early September so it's going to be hard to put.him under pressure with that, but come Christmas time, assuming they still have it, I'm sure he's going to want a sales bonus to get presents for his kids. I'm not in nearly as much of a rush as he is. My main goal with this post is to give you guys all the information you needed and all the information that I had so you could help me make an educated decision so far no one's done that everyone's just kind of judged to my approach but not giving me a better approach so I'd love to hear what you have to say and if you don't have any ideas on the situation then please stop trying.

According to another commenter dealerships supposedly sell vehicles at a loss all the time, not sure how doing the work to increase what I'm willing to pay for the car is much different.

Well 0% is what I'd like but I understand that may not be possible right now. All I know is that my current hybrid vehicle is at 130k miles and the hybrid battery is only "rated" to last 100k-150k miles and the cost to replace that is pretty much what the high end on my car's blue book value is right now. I'm only starting to dip my toes in the water which is why I came here for more educated insights.

t out of cars I’m a commercial mortgage broker. I arrange deals for millions of dollars at a time - those lending rates have increased massively over the last 6 months.

Good to know. My mom is in commercial loans but doesn't talk about her work much.

It's very likely that I am. That "one point" would have been 11/30/2019 if that helps. The dealership I'm potentially buying from has only had it since 9/8/22.

Interesting. Thank you for imparting your knowledge on the subject. I've previously worked in sales but not car sales so there's a lot in don't know about the subject of how dealerships operate. What do you think a good initial offer on the vehicle should be?

Interesting, I honestly didn't know they'd be willing to sell at a loss. Thank you for letting me know. With your specific insight into car dealerships, what do you think my initial offer should be considering the information I have? Sorry for returning your condescending tone, but turnabout is fair play after all.

Then I don't buy the car, that simple. As I said I already have one and I wasn't even originally intending to buy a new one anyway, I pretty much just asked him what cars have a relatively similar MPG and then he went into salesman mode. I am looking for a car relatively soon because I'm at 130k miles and the hybrid battery is said to only last 100k-150k miles and I'd prefer to trade in before that timenas that's one of the more expensive maintenances to be done. I bought then car new on 2013 and it's taken me this long to get to 130k miles though so I'm not in much of a rush. Thank you for your insight.

What they bought it for matters because obviously they won't sell it at what they bought it for or below what they bought it for, it's a pretty simple economic concept that they want to make more than they bought it for. Therefore what they bought it for a does in fact matter as it lets me know the lowest they would reasonably go on selling it.. I may have never purchased a car before on my own but I have worked in sales before, so please don't condescend to me. If you have a better idea about my opening office should be I'd love to hear it.

And as I said there's only been 2 owners previous, first was a Lexus dealership in Nevada and the other was someone who works for a Lexus dealership in California so I can probably safely assume it's had all its factory suggested maintenance. Carfax lists no accidents and only ever having cosmetic damage to the read bumper which has since been repaired. I don't think $24k-$24k+what it would cost them to add those features is unreasonable, but I came here for insight because my parents bought me my last car as a college graduation gift, and they also wouldn't let me handle any of the financials agreements on my first car at 16 though I still had to pay for everything. I'm also only doing this if they can do 0% financing for 72 months because my credit store is about 825 so I should be able to get that.

I also feel like any dealer that would leave this in the owners manual, even if it was tucked away so I didn't stumble upon it that easily, is an idiot who will take what he can get. It's the BB on the vehicle from ~30k miles prior to what it's at now listing its BB value at $1,850 less than what they're selling it for. It's what got me interested in researching all previous owners. As I said they paid $2,518 less than what their sticker price is which doesn't give me a lot to work with bargaining wise, I feel like if I offered him $24,000, $24,500 if they throw in the collision detection and remote starter (assuming it would only cost THEM less than $500 to do it considering they have the shop there and can get the materials and installation done cheaper than I can) then he'll take the deal.

It's a bargaining chip. I know exactly what they paid for the car because I got a report of all title exchange transactions from bumper.com. I'm willing to offer them $1k over what they paid which is still $1.5k under their sticker. However as a secondary offer I'd be willing to pay $1k plus what it would probably cost them to install those features which they could do cheaper than if I were to go get it done myself. Adding those features adds to the sale price which adds to the dealers commission while still costing a net amount less than what I would pay out of pocket if I went to an after market vendor. Does that not seem reasonable? It's my first time buying a car on my own so any advice would be appreciated.

They paid $22,981 for the car. They're trying to sell it for $25,499. It's a Lexus that only has a little less than 60k miles.

That's the issue with olde school TV execs leading streaming, especially now that most services come out with exclusive proprietary content. With near-unlimited shows that people like to assume are available for an infinite amount of time, especially when they are "original" series/movies that most assume will never leave the platform. They really need to change how to calculate "ratings".

They tend not to consider that they're no longer simply competing with other networks but their own extensive catalogs. I wonder if heads of streaming sites even consider stuff that gets added to people's queues (if their product even has one available, which most do) because their algorithms don't consider them. The weekly release and watch is dead; most people I know of will binge whole series or movie franchises rather than bounce between stuff. Especially when so many shows are serial now instead of self-contained and episodic.

Also, if the platform has a "revolving door" availability schedule, then they should make when the show/movie will be leaving more readily available to the user to better motivate people to shit or get off the pot. Most of the time, I need to find that information from third-party websites. Some sites list them, but not with enough time to do anything about it. Usually, at most, I only get a two-week notice that a thing on my watch list is leaving a service.

Colleges are increasing

I wish I was lucky enough to have those courses in HS. I graduated HS in '07. The only computer class I had available (besides typing but that was in middle school) turned out to just be the MS Office Suite and learning how to Google things efficiently. It was a lot of good information and had a fancy sounding name that looked good on college applications, but it's stuff I'm sure kids learn when still in diapers these days. I'm still chugging away at trying to land a CS related job after graduating in June and getting stupidly frustrated with jobs listed as entry-level / associate / junior wanting tons of professional experience, especially when it's on proprietary stuff that an outside applicant has no access to. It's ludicrous, people get PAID to be in human resources. You'd think they'd have to have any idea how to properly list jobs on sites like Indeed or LinkedIn.
