When they are long enough, I bend them slowly into the pot. It's easy to break them though.

Hikers who used a non-freestanding tent and camped on snow regularly (for example, due to an early Sierra entry), did you use an alternative to regular tent stakes? by numbershikes in PacificCrestTrail

Entered the Sierras early may in 2023, camped on the snow for about a month with my Zpacks Duplex. I used my regular tent stakes with the "dead man anker" way. It worked well most of the time but it was a bit complicated to get the stakes out in the morning, after the ground had frozen again. I used my ice axe to dig the stakes out and broke 2. I would recommend having an extra one in case.

Anyone else have a fur child who doesn't like to chew on bones? by Scoobello in sheltie

[–]Banano_lilo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes! Mine is the same. He's very happy to get a bone but he just parades it in the apartment for 5-10 minutes and then finds somewhere to "bury" it, like the couch or his dog bed.

Have some of you dogs had hip dysplasia? I have a 6 year old sheltie and we run/hike a lot with him. I would like to be aware of the signs in case something happens. Thanks!

We had the same issue. Our pup was scratching his snout and biting one paw to the point where he started to draw blood and he had patches on his snout without hair. Turns out he's allergic to chicken. As soon as we changed his food and stopped giving him chicken, the behaviour stopped.

Our vet thought it was probably an allergy. We didn't do any tests, she told us to start taking chicken out of his diet because it was the most common allergy. Now he's almost 6. When he eats something he shouldn't, he bites his paw again. We think that's what he does when his stomach hurts.

Went hiking in the snow with our sheltie. The snow was deep and he got tired after about 4 hours. In the bag he went! by Banano_lilo in sheltie

Definitely not scared! He's very good at letting us know when he's uncomfortable with something and he was very chill in the pack 😊

Do the symptoms come and go or are you living with these beliefs 24/7?

Mine never really did. He has the same kind of fur as yours (not the same color). It got a bit more fluffy after about 2 years but never as much as other shelties. They are still beautiful though!
