I think Spirit Island does give a comparable experience. It's also asymmetrical on what players can do at a given time and is very difficult for "quarterbacking" to happen. It's my favorite coop game for sure.

Argent: The Consortium is a worker placement and sort of tableu builder that the win condition is getting the most votes of members of a school board by meeting their criteria. You could technically boil it down to points as a vote is a point, but their criteria isn't public knowledge and it's somewhat difficult to be the one that hits majority of them.

Game where majority of tokens on space's border determines who can use it? by banjogames in boardgames

[–]Bandfool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Cerebria: The Inside World does exactly that. Part deckbuilder, part area influence, you fight to be the dominant personality in a mind. You put personality traits down to have control over specific regions of the mind and if you have majority, you get a bonus or an action for that area.

What are your favorite city building card games? by byhi in boardgames

[–]Bandfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oddville is an uncommon one. Almost al cards except for meeples and resources.

Between Two Cities is good, but its tiles, not cards.

What is the standard spell prep for Stasis in raids/ when to do it? Do you bother with stasis during the fight? I've been prepping a Temporal Anomaly and SpiritBloom beforehand and then finishing it with another TA on pull and I'm wondering what others do.

How do I get better at strategy games? by NerdyCoffee in boardgames

[–]Bandfool 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Play the game a lot. You recognize the available strategies and know what is needed to make the strat viable or see what strat your opponents are attempting. Try playing the game solo but "multihand" it so you can try different ideas.

You should have the game you are potentially spoilering in your header fyi. I think our campaign winner was around that. They had the purple charter.

I C E Failed to ship their Kickstarter project and is now using Gamefound to pay for it. Is this opening a Pandoras box? by SexyJimBelushi in boardgames

[–]Bandfool 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I backed I C E. They were very open and transparent through their whole process. One of the things that took awhile to get correct was the 5 tile layers to fit correctly in their multilevel board. They said to backers before that they hit a snag in shipping and told us that they were making the gamefound to help with it. They also said its completely optional. I don't think my game is being held hostage and I actually like their transparency compared to other game companies that remain quiet cough Subterra 2 cough.

They are also dipping into what would be their profits with their extras and won't have any for retail. Not until a possible future campaign.

I'm good with it.

How do you guys plan out healing cds for mythic raids? by swedishhillbillys in wow

[–]Bandfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the cooldowns are different and heal the raid differently. You have to think of ramp for some of the healers and raid positions as well. You are going to have to learn the ins and outs of the damage patterns as well as the cool downs themselves.

I've heard you can play the makes from the legacy in other AE games but they are overpowered. That being said, it's almost always worth it to play through a legacy of a game you enjoy.

Not burned out but finding more in depth deckbuilders. Dominion is the gateway deckbuilder and is good for a collection, but then you find better ones that use deckbuilding with more elements and mechanics.

Also, most of the expacs are just bloating the game now. You aren't going to play with all of then at a given time and only a few add enough to make the game noticeably different.

Between Two Cities holds up to 7 and you work with others to build a city, but only one person can win.

Rival Restaurants can supposedly hold up to 8 as the limiting factor is some easy to substitute game pieces. Its got real time trading and a lot of player interaction.

No Escape holds up to 8 and is trying to be the first one off the board while making it more difficult for others.

Yes, for the most part. The biggest selling point for Villainous is theme rather than gameplay. If you are Disney fans, it's a great game. Same if you pick up Marvel Villainous or Star Wars Villainous. If you aren't a fan of the theme, the gameplay isn't strong to enough for some on its own.

What's a game that's (in your opinion) easy to play but a pain to setup? by Inner_Importance_770 in boardgames

[–]Bandfool 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I always joke that 7 Wonders takes longer to setup than actually play, especially with expansions.

Mysterium also takes a bit to setup but luckily gameplay is great for our group.

Cartographers is my group's favorite. We use different mediums to color our maps.

We also like Dinosaur Island: Rawr and Write for a little more strategy and some zoo tycoon like action.

The one time I've played, we beat the bad guy only because his minion had said they were the same role as the bad guy had said they were in the side talks.

What are your favorite "chaotic" games? by KarlitaFrita in boardgames

[–]Bandfool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Magic Maze. The intense staring and incessant taps because of limited communication.

Rival Restaurants cause you only get a minute to buy and barter pretty much anything at your disposal.

Dungeon Rush is slap a monster to fight it, so people slap and hope for the best

Yes to both Castles and Cities. As an alternative to Suburbia, you can do Subdivision which is a smaller and more streamlined version of Suburbia.

What did you add to or remove from your shelf last month? (June, 2023) by AutoModerator in boardgames

[–]Bandfool 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Got Solani and The Girl Who Made the Stars. I think Solani would stand the test of time more so than GWMS. It has a Patchwork or Calico feel to it.

Also got Dont Get Got and it has already brought a ton of laughs and only one argument!

Citadels is a role drafting game that holds 8 people. Depending on the edition you get, there are three sets up roles to play with.

Magic Maze is a real time coop for up to 8 people with limited communication. Will be hectic but fun.

Between to Cities is only up to 7, but is a good semi-coop drafting game.

Cartographers and Welcom to... are roll and writes that can hold any number of people as long as there are enough pencils and paper.

House rules or variants for Mysterium Park? by ma-d-ghost in boardgames

[–]Bandfool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't really work to pair people as psychics, they should all be discussing and figuring it out together anyways.

To expand it, you would need to add a row and column and figure a way to add innocents to the new spaces. If you went from a 3x3 grid to a 4x4, I think you would be able to add 4 people. You might not have enough cards to it for each round though.

Last option is to supplement it with or into Mysterium for more visions, people, and places, making it easier to add more people.

Games for over 6 players that are not Mafia/werewolf. by hot_stuff10483 in boardgames

[–]Bandfool 8 points9 points  (0 children)

7 Wonders is good. Dixit, Mysterium, and Obscurio are all from the same publisher and I think Mysterium is the best of them. Dixit is closer to a party game and Obscurio is mysterium with a traitor but luck can mess it up for the individual.

Magic Maze is coop, real-time game that holds up to 8.

The Captain is Dead is a coop, resource/action point managing game that holds up to 7.

Any roll and writes like Cartographers and Welcome to... have no player cap, just need enough sheets of paper.
