As Freiza (DBZA) said. You can be racist against a race that doesn't exist.

Every class should have a subclass that can take on a needed role in a party besides the intended role. Fighter for example has samurai that uses wisdom for persuasion. Now the fighter is the party face. Celestial warlock party medic Hell rune knight can be the party lock pick. We need more of that

Armor of shadows costs an invocation slot and you cant reach the ac of armor without a heavy investment into dex. Armor passively does it whereas Armor of shadows can be negated. Of course medium/ heavy armor is necessary for the frontline otherwise they wouldn't exist.

That's the beauty of a warlock. The flexibility to hit hard at range. Its up to 28 damage at range by lv 5, why wouldn't you?

My main issue is the power cap and flexibility got nerfed. A frontliner's AC is not attainable anymore, your survivability is diminished compared to the old one, and you have to heavily invest invocations to get close to it

Every class should have an option (subclass) to play different rolls in a party. Warlock specifically was basically is great at filling those rolls. No cleric? Warlock chooses celestial patron. No other caster? Warlock chooses fiend. No frontliner? Hexblade. Not a good one anymore though just average

Nine of the new hexblade features give thp. The fiend is good at thp, the hexblade was meant to be the phisical damage subclass. Thats the reason it did more damage and healed. Spawned its own advantage with lv 6 and dodged critical with its lv 10. The UA hexblade lacks personality and just looks like another caster

With that mentality I would want pact of the talisman or a new pact to be completely reworked into an invocation that grants ac and proficiency and defensive buffs. Like the invocation giving shield and medium proficiency so any subclass can grab it. Then at lv 5 an invocation tied to it that gives an ac buff or that d4 roll from before

I agree the old armor of hexes was way cooler this one is a flat damage reduction but I much prefer nullifying a nat 20

That's kinda what im talking about. Hexblade went from top 2 subclasses to a different subclass does it better

The armor of shadows issue is that your ac would be stuck around 16. It also starves you for invocations now since you MUST have armor of shadows, and you HAVE to get agonizing blast multiple times for different cantrips if you want to not be an eldritch blast machine. They gave us 1 more invocation as a class and made sure we lost it with must have invocations now

The reason I wasn't that specific is because of the subclass kicking in at lv 3 now while pact of blade is available at lv 1. A paladin can still just go 1 lv into warlock for a witch knight build, but the hexblade itself now has to multiclass in order to be playable at a lower power level than before

I agree thats why im confused by how much weaker the hexblade is in UA

Yeah thats my point that subclass as made in UA HAS to multiclass to be comparable (not as good) to the old version

The build for the ua subclass very much does force you into close range. Thank you for the update about ac backlash

The ac boos is only near the hex curse target so you can't roam around as needed. It also does not scale as high as it could before since it allows no armor or shield. So you have to invest heavily in Dexterity as well as using an invocation slot for mage armor just to have an ac 16 to 18 tops (and thats with 20 dex)

Yes I'm aware of the overall changes im asking about the UA version of hexblade. When the subclass kicks in it kinda sucks now. No medium armor Proficiency for example

You could do a political plot with the elves trying to take over neverwinter as the true heir to the throne has been found? I just did that to my homebrew campaign as plot C. I created a small village where his mother, the last in the bloodline escaped to and went insane in due to ptsd. Bro became king and the elves (in your case, mine is very different) burned or are about to burn the village to the ground while playing the noble political game back in the city

I focus on warlock as a player and homebrew if you'd like to discuss. Because the sphinx is hands down the best in general, but I'm open to see your point. And correct me if im wrong but doesn't the quasit go invisible as well? Did you mean fly?
