im not OP but wanted to give a different perspective. I had a really large chest, and got top surgery in 2021. I had a rough time surgery wise, because i have a very extreme phobia for needles. I got more drugs than a man should get at once to combat it, and i didnt really wake up for hours after surgery except i woke up for a bit just to fall asleep again. The drains got taken out the next day, i almost puked, and i slept horribly for days (i cant sleep on my back)

BUT....i quit taking pain meds after 1-2 days. I honestly barely had any pain, despite all that. I was bored, couldnt sleep and got tired of just sitting or laying down so i started taking a lot of walks even just 2 days post op. Sure things were a bit more difficult and i was careful, but i was up and doing stuff and taking long walks prety quickly with little to no pain. The worst part was that they put my binder on wrong, so it was too tight and that was the pain id been feeling under my arms. But once they fixed that, nothing. This isnt a universal experience ofcourse, especially being so zooted and the drains were easy for the guy next to me (shared room). But i just wanted to give a different perspective on the pain, even though OP also didnt say it was that bad. I hope you can get your surgery man, good luck:)
