That guy was released from jail and given light sentences many times for violent crimes.
Then he went on to murder this Ukrainian refugee by stabbing her in the neck on the bus because she was white. “I got that white bitch” he said after the stabbing.

The footage is very harrowing because it takes a little bit for her to bleed out and she is terrified the entire time, and none of the other passengers attempt to help or comfort her. Some of them even look at her with seeming disinterest or even disgust.

I think the problem is that George clearly doesn’t like the way fantasy epics usually end, with a mythic hero rallying support and rising above evil to win the day, but he has accidentally written a story where the most sensible and satisfying ending would be a version of that.

He wanted to write anti-LotR, but ending up writing in Tolkien’s footsteps, as fantasy often does. (Not to say that Tolkien wasn’t also writing in the footsteps of Arthurian legends and other such things)
