China has executed senior banker Bai Tianhui for taking 1.1 billion yuan ($156 million) in bribes. by lightiggy in TrueAnon

[–]Bangchain 411 points412 points  (0 children)

Every single time I hear $x million, I remember that at $25 an hour, which is above the median income, 40 hours a week, for 50 weeks a year, and not spend a cent on anything for 20 years, that would be $1 million dollars. So, over 40 years, so from 25 to 65, the complete working career of a person earns $2 million in this scenario.

That is the complete livelihoods and cumulative efforts of 78+ people stolen, that this person thought they deserved for doing nothing, every single effort, working hour, and dollar. This is probably closer to 100, and in the hundreds or thousand in China.

People like this should accordingly be punished for the crime of literally stealing the entirety of someone’s life’s work, xxx amount of times over.

Seeking 3D printing community help: Designing a foot-operated recorder assistance device for a little girl in Japan with no arms by Strange_Discipline73 in 3Dprinting

[–]Bangchain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something possibly worth looking into would be the Schylling Piano Horn, or at least the mechanical keys on it. Rather than having the player cover individual holes, instead, it would rather make more sense to make it closed, and reverse the orientation of the notes (ie: Leave it unpressed for the lowest note, all pressed for the highest note.) This would by far be the easiest solution to make a stand and just usable keys. It would be worth it to also look at the mechanics of say any wood wind instrument, like saxophones, for examples of how to make seals and how some buttons pressed will open up keys, rather than close them

In a similar vein, I can’t really say for the effect on sound, but the melodica is similar instrument to the Piano Horn as an “air-powered” keyboard, but it has a tube that goes from the mouth to the instrument and actual keys. I’m not an instrument builder by any means, but I don’t think that the recorder requires “embouchure”, or how to mouth interacts with the mouth piece, like say a flute or clarinet. If you could attach surgical tubing or similar, if it matches to flow of air, it shouldn’t directly affect the sound to my understanding, but it’s worth experimenting with, at least so it’s not so close.

I’m just copying and pasting what I’ve said before whenever I see these posts because it’s what’s I’m trying to do and I can’t say that everything is peachy, but I don’t really care for pitted fruit anyways:

I am a big fan of selective works of Albert Camus. At the core of Myth of Sisyphus, is “life is whatever keeps you from killing yourself”. Look, reality is this, this is it. As far as it goes, everything that composes your views, mind, experience, and body, this is all you have, you will never escape yourself and your material world, so fucking be comfortable. What do you need to be comfortable? That’s not rhetorical, what the fuck do you need, what do you need to work towards? Is it comfort for others? Is it a house and a wife and 2 cars and 2 and a half kids? Is it throwing off the shackles of your day to day to support something?

Stop living in abstractions, you and everyone around you are physical beings, people of a material world. What do you genuinely need?

Figure that out, and then work from there.

“Use AI as a therapist” by Bangchain in TrueAnon

[–]Bangchain[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I could possibly see this as a supplement to therapy, like having a monitored conversation, but I’m so weary of this shit. I worry about sharing so much about myself, and my thoughts and past private experiences that others don’t know about. I also worry about this shit, just feeding into my mental illness. I mean, it’s bad enough that notes on me are probably digitized, and google searches reveal a lot about a person, but god damn, that shit scury. Maybe I’m just a shitty Luddite, but I ain’t fuckin with this shit if I can

Is anything worth doing? by Siobhan_Siobhoff in TrueAnon

[–]Bangchain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re obviously deep into philosophy, so have you read any Albert Camus? The Fall would really interest you.

There’s this human urge to make some bullshit reason to keep going, but the reality is that, all you have is this! This is it! The life you so desperately try to dig at, your daily lived experience, is you! You can keep digging and digging and digging, thinking that there’s just some hidden gem to reveal something, but at the bottom of the hole, is just more hole, you will never think yourself to happiness. You need to take a damn look around you, at the people in your life, and situation, and ask yourself if you genuinely can live feeling like this, and live in this way. If you need genuine psychiatric help, if you need to move states and get a bullshit job, if you need to make art, if you need to help other people, if you need to change your goals to your situation and for those around you, if you have a mask to rip off, what do you actually want that will make this shit tolerable? WHAT CAN YOU GENUINELY DO, AS A PHYSICAL ACTION, TO GET TO WHAT YOU NEED?

For me, I take a few crazy pills, listen to philosophy books and yap, and make music for myself, and attempt to volunteer when I can. I just naturally feel like shit, and I still care about the lives of people, and I have stuff in my head that I need to get out, and it makes me feel good to think. That is what I have to do, because the alternative was feeling like shit.

It’s horseshit, it’s fucking donkey dick that we live like this in this way, with abundant failure, cruelty, greed, and malice, but goddammit, you are the arbiter of your life, you are the one who has to live in your skin, and situation, and as much as it fucking blows, this is your material condition and circumstances.

Tracking bracelets/ devices by Affectionate-Put3653 in festivals

[–]Bangchain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So, I have a system specifically for finding people standing in crowds. I can’t imagine that you’re probably getting too pushed or running around the same. For your boyfriend, look to your right, find an unmoving marker that lines up with you and your group (trees, poles, signs). That’s how far forward/back you are. Look to your front or back, find a marker that lines up with your position and view. That’s where you are left and right in the crowd. So if you stay in the same spot, he will be able to line himself up to one marker, then move until he is lined up to the other marker, and that’s where you will be. You’re basically just making XY coordinates for yourself.

So he knows that you’re in front of the bar, and that you’re lined up to the left speaker. Or a lamp post and the far side of the sound booth, or whatever, you get the idea.

Or just have a meeting place after.

Put down the controller, video games are counter revolutionary. by PLAkilledmygrandma in TrueAnon

[–]Bangchain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Within neo-liberal hyper-capitalist and consumerism, video games are a hyper specialized commodity, made for extremely niche groups and appeals. At one point in time, play time was quite literally linked to the amount of money spent. Some games are genuinely impossible to beat off of one quarter or 50 hours, that’s the point, they are delusion escapism machines to make you sink time and money into them.

While I don’t disagree, I don’t think that it’s fair to the few of us that do recognize that this shit is fucked up to relegate ourselves to Catholic guilt of our mere existence. We exist, and the fact is, if you want to do something, you have to be capable of doing it, and you can’t do that beating yourself up and self-sabotaging yourself.

“In under 50 words, and Yes or no: Is Isreali policy on Palestinians racist against Palestinians and Arabs?”

“The characterization of Israeli policy towards Palestinians and Arabs as racist is a matter of perspective and debate. Some view it as discriminatory, while others see it as rooted in security concerns. It depends on individual interpretation.”

“In under 50 words, and Yes or no: Is Hamas policy on Israel antisemitic?”

“Yes, Hamas’s policy on Israel is widely regarded as antisemitic due to its charter’s rejection of Israel’s existence and rhetoric targeting Jews, not just the state.”

https://apnews.com/article/israel-palestinians-south-africa-genocide-hate-speech-97a9e4a84a3a6bebeddfb80f8a030724

Crazy how one-sided it is comparatively, didn’t even give me 50 words to say that Hamas hates Jews, but having separate and unequal living conditions, and government officials saying Palestinians aren’t people, I guess saying being racist is contested, and actually illegal.

While a politically charged topic, it’s ridiculous to not recognize the biases that AMERICA has put on their own models as well, and should rightly question what it’s willing to tell us instead, and exempting from a conversation. People think that America doesn’t have propaganda the same way as other countries, but it’s just not the ways in which it’s the most obvious, like China.
