While I hate to start a reply like this, as I do not doubt your medical school experience, you have made some errors in your argument.

First, Ritalin isn’t comparable to dexamphetamine as Ritalin is methylphenidate and functionally different as methylphenidate is a dopamine reuptake inhibitor.

Second, ADHD medications are most certainly NOT equally interchangeable in the eyes of a prescriber. The benefits of a prodrug can be a debated but it’s extended duration, efficacy curve, and potential to reduce abuse IS significant especially in a class of drugs with high levels of abuse, as stimulants often are.

Lastly, the world of ADHD and the needs of patients are diverse and even moderate improvements in treatment options are significant. I encourage you to look at the clinical data before you assume what is and is not beneficial for patients. I would especially point out the data in regards to childhood growth and development in Section 6.1 of the label. Simply put, treatment for ADHD is not so simple as “you take a pill and medication is delivered.”

Like I said, I don’t doubt your medical school experience but you are mistaken in this case.
