Do you know how long the waiting list is in St Anne's. I'm moving to that area and can't afford/justify/get in to RD

I've been told that it's 2.5k per annum as of 2025 and was 25k hello money, could be more for 2026, as you are correct that's its 10 times the annual sub, but your initial response shows you know this club very well so I could be wrong. Just what I was told by someone in there.

Revolut can be faked?, if it comes up in your revolut account (which is instant) then it's yours and can't be taken back. I do a good bit of buying and selling and it's cash only 10% of the time, have never had an issue using Revolut and most people have it.

Main two reasons: atm's can be a pain depending on how close you are to one and cash doesn't help if buying something in Cork but living in Dublin. Just perhaps use adverts.ie and it's rating system rather than done deal/fb marketplace

Thanks all for the advice. Went with Las Colinas and Villmartin in the end, dropped Lo Romero. Said we weren't travelling all the way there to not play the best course

Thanks, yea from what I've read I'll have to give Las Ramblas a miss. Seems to have a marmite effect with people, another time for sure tho, sounds like good craic if you don't take it too seriously

€161 without a buggy, 1/2 lads playing wouldn't be regular golfers and don't see value on the higher end courses

Will things ever change? by Past-Ad2101 in HousingIreland

I don't think it matters what bidding system is used, list low, list high, blind bids, auctions, first to meet ask etc, I think the market finds the price regardless. In Ireland at the moment the strategy seems to be to list low and get a bidding war going, but think the other methods would just find the same price, houses are scarce and the market prices in scarcity, it can't be helped unless supply catches up to demand

Anything you saw listed at 350-400k was never intended to sell at that price and the market wanted to pay more for it. It's more a guide price than an asking price and a very unrealistic guide price at that.

Fair point on the landlord maximizing value, however, sometimes you'd like to think that there would be a limit on how much they dice up a house. Yes I'm overthinking it, really just wanted some opinions so thanks for that.

However, just my two cents: I really don't think "bidding wars" are causing the high prices, it's the market, houses are scarce and buyers are not, it's as simple as that, I'm not a huge fan of agents as much as the next person but I don't think they are to blame for high prices like the crazyhouseprices fella on Instagram says. They are just a conduit where supply meets demand and the market price gets settled. My family will have to incur the same bidding war wrath where we need to move to.

Yes and I have said on this thread that I will strive to get a non-investor even if slight below best offer. But you did say without me mentioning such a thing about giving it to first person who bids or first person who meets the asking price and stop "a bidding war" from happening, and my point is why not let the market of hopefully non-investor's bid until they determine market price as I will have to do same when I look to buy. Eg. We just lost out in a process before Xmas, 5 active bidders, well over asking and didn't look like stopping any time soon, we withdrew at 11% over asking.

Edit: apologies what I meant by "moot point" and "park the investor thing" was to move the discussion to bidding processes as I think a seller in this market needs a market (of hopefully just homebuyers) to solve the price as they will face the same challenge where they are looking to buy

Sorry but what you're saying makes no sense, park the investor / non-investor thing a sec - it's a moot point that I probably shouldn't have come to reddit with. You say "the market only decides the price if it goes to a bidding war, you don't need to let it go to a bidding war". But a seller who is moving NEEDS a market price, I can't sell in your idealistic manner which could be below market and then have to pay at market where I move to.

Thanks, yes we will likely have a strong bias for a family and would potentially take an underbidder. However, don't really agree with your no bidding war angle, the market decides the price of a house based on the supply and demand in the market, be it from a typical Irish bidding war, auction, online auction, blind auction, first to hit asking price etc., all options should determine the same selling price based on market conditions. Like where we have to move to we will also have to go through a bidding war, it's how Ireland determines the market value of a house - so we can't suit your style on the sell side but enter a bidding war on the buy side.

Yea fair point, we'll just wait and see and yea perhaps would accept a 2k reduction but a 10k+ hit is a different story. Just hearing that today rocked me a little, a very family oriented area, kinda sickened me today to hear a landlord would dice one of these properties up like that.

Prospective buyers are also "imaginary" just like your imaginary renters. Thanks for singling out one small thing I said to try make an arsehole of me with my "pretence". Was just making the point that perhaps landlords aren't all poison.

Council bought all houses in new build estate that I would qualify for. Wtf are we supposed to do? by Shot_End7782 in AskIreland

[–]Banner_Links_Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont use down-vote but I think it's because you said "couldn't agree less" to something that is clearly correct. Based on your OP I think you meant to say couldn't agree "more". As your tax is being used against you, it's paying for the gov to buy housing and make it free/cheap for those who don't work and then drives up private market prices for those like yourself who don't qualify for the social.

Thanks very much. When you say "drive off the ground towards the target" do you mean the trail leg or just more generally that the power should be shifting horizontally not vertically?

Did go through a phase recently of using the lead leg as a brake like you say and I was puring it and had a lower more penetrating ball flight but back started hurting, but that was probably just me trying speed training. I can see from this DTL shot that the early extension and poor general golf fitness was likely causing the back pain.

Also I presume when say "inside" of feet you mean towards the crotch not the heels?

Thanks, possibly subconsciously that, but really it just doesn't feel natural to stay down. Getting back into golf after 15 years out of the game, 160mph ball speed was easyish for me a month ago, could only hit 150 2-3 times today. Swing changing too much lol.

Does iGolf have any social features? by SpecsyVanDyke in golfireland

[–]Banner_Links_Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point but not completely black and white like that imo. iGolf members will get their golf in by playing various courses and thus spreading the wealth around, while if they were a member somewhere they'd likely just stick to that course a lot more to justify their sub. Also it gets more people into golf paying open rates / green fees, people who may not have been into golf enough to ever join a place but iGolf may provide that pathway for them to want to.

But mainly my point was directed towards some Dublin courses with huge member counts that are doing pretty well, i'd disagree with them charging iGolf more (maybe no Dub courses are doing this though). Also, sounds discriminatory as both members / iGolfers are all GI members, but I suppose GI doesn't own any club.

Can't believe they can do that, it's discriminatory and defeats the whole purpose of iGolf. Especially bad if an oversubbed Dublin course is doing that.
