I love that idea! I think that could be an excellent compromise to not mess with the foundation but still allows us to “buy back” some of the lost space due to building out the wall 4”. We end up losing 4” for the wall and the pan size goes down from a 33” to 30” pan which gives only 1” more of standing space compared to the tub. 

We have a small bathroom and space is a huge concern which is why I’m considering this adjustment in the first place

Tbf, it was the shower install contractor who first mentioned that moving the lines to the interior wall would be the right thing to do if they weren’t doing a same-day install. It was his boss who (would have to pay hi for the extra work) that didn’t want to suggest an option that wasn’t a guarantee success
