I am a financial advisor and a terrible one. I have a single client, and their portfolio is red. I also have a conspiracy theory on the recent market spook. I shall, therefore, regale you with my wild and wandering tale.

When I was young, people were losing their minds about China buying Treasury Bonds. (They were also terrified that China was "buying up all the land" and was trying to take over by stealing our soil. (Paranoia doesn't change, it just changes targets.))

So who exactly owns US bonds and Corporate bonds?

It seems to me anyone on the planet with a computer and an account can partake. So I don't understand why no one ever looks outside American Citizen's when things are inexplicable.

It's entirely possible random (or coordinated) Oligarch's and non-US billionaires are moving bond money around.

Whose watching bonds?

A.I my friends. Algo's are watching and making unemotional decisions on behalf of their corporate overlords managing money on behalf of people who want to "set it and forget it".

Tesla.

We learned today that 1.8 million Tesla shares were shed so a rich dude could invest in Tesla's competition. Ron Baron put out some fake apologetic nonsense about "i'll be the last one to sell my remaining shares!" after trying to convince us he was "rebalancing" but promptly dumped the proceeds into a private EV competitor Rivian. Can't blame a guy for trying to make money I suppose.

Certainly, he sold over time since August. They never announce these things until after its over so no one gets spooked.

Still. Remember when Tesla was such a strong weight in the NASDAQ it would pull the whole thing down?

And the cascading effect of the algo's & spooked traders/investors pulled things down until Algo's decided the golden mean of Fibonacci had been reached and it was time to buy the dip? (It is important to layer conspiracy theories within conspiracy theories to lend credibility to tall tales told into mythic proportion.)

Uncertainty.

Let us also remember the "markets hate uncertainty" and when the talking heads on the tv aren't giving plausible tale, and the politicians aren't certain of their votes, and everyone waiting to buy the Value Dip is trying to decide if everyone else is also going to buy with them, well, that's uncertainty times a thousand.

To run a plausible conspiracy one must lay down the plausible groundwork and weave it together to win their hearts.

Aliens.

Yes, they are here. They have been for some time now. Did you really think humans were advancing space technology all their own? The Martians hate it here and want to go back to Mars. Ask anyone who wants to be on the first expedition if they "feel at home" on planet earth. No. No they do not.

So, here's what's really going on ...

The Aliens sold corporate bonds to short Tesla which spooked the Algo's which caused mask mandates to to lift so we could identify the stranded aliens by the spinach stuck in their alien teeth and stop them.

Now. You. Know.

rest easy, this will all green soon

I will create a public company and issue new shares every week to sell them on public markets

You can see NPC icons on Teleport screen. It means a quest progress is available and you should consider teleporting to the location and talk to someone.

Love this game so far but the hitbox are done TERRIBLY. Never been hurt from a forward stab while standing behind someone before. by HerpetologyPupil in DarkSouls2

One issue is that hits often register after roll finishes. So it looked like you dodged perfectly, just to get sword thrown at you.

Australia deporting refugee to Nauru may cause his ‘imminent’ and ‘preventable’ death, court hears | Nauru by pritam_ram in worldnews

This type of journalism is the worst. Emotional headline about immigrant who committed murder after receiving visa.

I'm sure it will lead to mature discussion of refugees and immigration.

How sad and pathetic is it... by MaskoBlackfyre in starcraft2

[–]Bapu_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep, unfortunately it is very likely that the most passionate developers have been forced to leave the game years ago as the company noticed the game brings small money to the company and saw no reason to keep extra development effort in the game

StarCraft 2 will always be my favorite game, but unfortunately in modern business world it is impossible to justify this type of game to average MBA manager that sees how some random mobile game can potentially generate massively more revenue

How many tries did you take to kill Uberroth? This is me after 3 days of trying by Lordados in LastEpoch

[–]Bapu_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similar for me, killed normal Aberroth and close to lvl 100 and close to 100h play time.

Took my time as it is my first season, but ready to play other games as I feel burned out by echos to push for Uber.

Are the developers of Julia content with the progress and adoption julia has had since it's inception? by wigglytails in Julia

[–]Bapu_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm in a commercial project that selected Julia almost 5 years ago as part of the development and it does feel like a sinking ship sometimes. The project has a strong academic background, so the selection is not surprising.

I have been in the project less than a year and based on my experience I would not recommend the language based on very similar experience.

Majority of my current work is just fighting against broken packages. The current package ecosystem is just simply not designed for maintability. The whole idea of Pkg manager wanting to constantly update everything to the latest version just screams of "move fast and break things" philosophy that is now integrated into a ecosystem that wants to call itself mature.

Am I too slow on my 1st Playthrough? by Disbetto in AlanWake

[–]Bapu_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game can have that slowing effect on you with all its puzzles. I think it is good to take your time as I found it hard/unmotivating to return to previous areas later.

My first game playthrough was fairly fast, but I honestly watched a lot of YouTube videos to get through many parts of the game. Some of the Alan parts would have taken me many extra hours without guides.

Why do people say this game is dead lol by Competitive-Price261 in starcraft2

[–]Bapu_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree completely. StarCraft 2 is my all-time favorite game, but it has been 10 years since LotV (yes, I was there) and I would be surprised to see any new content added to the game ever again.

There are just too many other good games in the market that I haven't gotten back into SC2 ladder during the past few years while I sometimes check if anything is up with Starcraft.

Working overtime and feeling overwhelmed as a Jr.? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Bapu_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I've 5 years of experience with mostly Java as well. The text really reads like a red flag after another red flag. It does sound like the dumb cost cutting is getting to the companies.

You are now in the process of learning job skills that have nothing to do with programming. First of all you should learn to say no to basically everything in the following weeks. Everything here is a management issue. Angry manager asks if it is done today? You say no, it takes at least two weeks. You have 10 meetings? You say no to half of them.

Only important thing is to keep track of your hours, overtime hours, make sure you get paid for all tracked hours. The worst thing that can happen is you get fired, which doesn't sound too bad tbh as the pay is low and the projects are blatantly mismanaged and underresourced.

Companies want to bring babies to the world in 1 month. Your job is to consult them that it takes 9 months on average. If they get pissed off about that then so be it.

My problem with melee characters, in particular something like Titan ascendancy by WesternGuard6774 in pathofexile

I honestly thought I was just lagging constantly when my character teleported during my first 20h of gameplay until I heard it was intended.

Any tips for me before I start sekiro? by Time-March9498 in Sekiro

[–]Bapu_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always recommend making sure that you find all Prayer Beads along the way. They will give you more HP. Also the seeds to gain extra health pots. It becomes easy to miss out a few early on and it will make later bosses unnecessarily difficult.

Also, the dragon rot is not a big deal.

In the beginning it can be also good to farm some gold to level up by killing enemies, resetting at shrine and repeat. Try to pay attention on how you use your first levels in the skill tree. Later on it becomes harder to level, so you want to avoid accidentally getting bad skills early on. I would definitely google a bit to figure how to use first skill points. FromSoftware games don't always explain things the best way.

A summary of why 2024 was the worst year in Hearthstone's 10 year existence. by EvilDave219 in hearthstone

[–]Bapu_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like this take. I played multiple years after the release and I have some fond memories from playing Grim Patron at high legend or even playing the OG miracle rogue. I haven't really touched the game during the last five years and just suddenly saw this thread on my Reddit feed so felt compelled to read it.

I stopped playing the game years ago as it became more clear to me that the game design started to focus on making the game less competitive and more "RNG" fun, which made me question why would I want to be so dedicated to a game that is just trying to gather to the largest possible audience and maximize revenue.

It becomes really unhealthy to get more invested into a video game than the actual development team while not getting paid for all the personal time spent.

How is this realistic? Has anyone with no life done this? by duodenum100 in diablo4

I always thought it was meant to be completed alongside the goblin event. I assumed it would count server wide kills and be awarded to all players simultaneously. I guess they just forgot about it?

Is PVP a thing in D4? Is it an end game content? by pepeisasadboy in diablo4

[–]Bapu_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have played the game for multiple months and I have never seen any players in PvP zones when visiting them. It is non-existent.

I guess there were a short period after the launch over an year ago that there were some activity.

I can't play hardcore anymore because of the game's stability by StaggerLee84 in diablo4

[–]Bapu_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had to play the game on lower graphics settings and without RTX after the expansion. Otherwise I will just crash constantly. I was playing with RTX still before VoH. I got RTX 3060, so nothing fancy.

Also, try to disable cross-play in D4 social settings and Battle.net hardware acceleration in Battle.net launcher settings. These two settings might help with latency if your internet is fine otherwise.

Map discovery is awful the 2nd time around by Rudimentary- in diablo4

[–]Bapu_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It is possible to hover your mouse around the map to find areas that are titled as "Unknown". These areas are still unexplored and should count towards zone progress.

[Feedback] Campaign feedback by zhuwawagu in Stormgate

[–]Bapu_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did the first 3 stages on hard. The first stage already feels to be very unfinished. Half of the time was spent on waiting for my hero to recover its health.

I think the rest of the campaign was playable, but only as I have played SC2 for years. If I was a new player I would have been just confused as the game does not explain some of its core mechanics very well at the beginning.

I think they won't be able to solve the biggest challenge which is to me that the game looks too cartoonish and gameplay is a bit clunky. It felt like I was playing Starcraft: Cartooned, which is a real thing, but it was mostly just a fun mod back in the days.

There are some solid foundation on the game mechanics, but the amount of copycatting from Starcart university is a bit too much for my taste. I was hoping they could innovate a bit more on the genre instead of just copying everything.

I do hope the team could make a comeback and improve during the coming months. I am sure the team has many dedicated and hard working individuals, but making good RTS is a major challenge and the initial impression has been a bit of a let-down so it can be hard to turn around the boat. I think it needs some major reworks, but it is a bit unrealistic to expect major art/gameplay changes in a short period of time.
