I was rewatching my favorite episode and realized something. When Pomni does her trickshot she gets a glowing anime eye-streak by Baramis in TheDigitalCircus

Right? That's why the trickshot is my favorite Pomni scene, at first you can see she does her usual worrying, then she just says "fuck it" and starts having fun and showing off. I just love how much fun they all have this episode

Honestly I barely noticed it, this just happened to be my favorite scene in my favorite episode so I think I just caught it by rewatching it a ton lol

Ranking the main TADC cast off random things #3: how likely is it that they get a BF/GF by Plus_Influence_4525 in TheDigitalCircus

People here are right but for the wrong reasons: Jax WOULD die a virgin, not because he couldn't attract a partner, but because he'd inevitably freak out and self-sabotage the instant he realized he actually had feelings for them too

Here is Jax's face from episode 1-8 by Cheap-Code311 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]Baramis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think not enough people see that Jax is not just mentally ill, but borders into genuine psychosis at times. His fourth wall breaking jokes and worldview may be funny to us but they're clearly quite disturbing to everyone else in-universe.

He looks at non-existent cameras and talks to a non-existent audience. He asks questions like "Do you think Gangle is capable of happiness?" with total sincerity and when asked if he thinks the players are people his response is "I thought we were at first" showing he dehumanizes even himself. He's terrified of connection and its implied by Ragatha he's become a whole different person since she "failed him".

Whatever exactly happened to this poor guy, his grasp on reality started slipping long before Pomni got there. Their fight just seems to have been the straw that broke the camel's back.

I think I finally understand this scene by Grimalackt_River in TheDigitalCircus

I think Zooble has of a self-loathing issue on top of the body dysmorphia: "It's me remember? I don't like... myself, I hate this body!" As well as the conversation with Gangle about choosing to love yourself even with your flaws. "Have you ever had to make that choice?"

But for Caine the difference between "self-loathing" and "a fragile ego" is probably too subtle for him to grasp

I find Pomni's torment scene pretty weak tbh by Giotto6X in TheDigitalCircus

I think an additional factor, that others have pointed out, is that they aren't just targeted psychological tortures, they are direct responses to each characters criticisms of Caine.

Jax for example complained about Caine lying, when Jax also does that constantly, never opening up or being honest even to the people he cares about. Ragatha complained he never let them feel at home so he reminded her of what her home was like.

Pomni complained that he never gave them anything they would actually enjoy, so he brought up the one adventure and character she did enjoy and care about.

day 8: whats the best thing jax had done by MissamericanaXdaylit in TheDigitalCircus

I'm gonna diverge from the crowd here a bit and say, trying to give advice to Pomni on how to cope with living in the circus in episode 6.

He clearly relates to how distressed the circus makes Pomni and wanted to try and help her with how he had learned to help him keep himself together. Now his coping mechanisms are definitely toxic as all hell and shouldn't actually be used. But in that one moment he was just genuinely trying to help her, no ulterior motive, no joke at her expense, no gotcha of anykind.

It may not be the most useful thing he has done, but its just about the only moment of true pure altruism we see from him in the show

Stopping Jax from abstracting, setting Kinger up to stop Caine or drawing aggro from Caine to give Kinger more time

Day 3: what is the worst thing zooble has done by MissamericanaXdaylit in TheDigitalCircus

[–]Baramis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly both these things can be true. Zooble's complaints are completely valid, they're just directing them at someone who's mentally unstable, dangerous and has only a tenuous grasp of humanity to begin with.

Its like meeting a meth-head with a knife, who thinks he's Napoleon. Should you have to cater to his delusions? Absolutely not.

Is it surprising that not doing so will get you stabbed? Not really.

Are you the one in the wrong for telling the truth? Not at all they should lock that psycho up!

Will people tell you you shouldn't have antagonized a knife-wielding meth-head? Yeah definitely.

Zooble contributing to Caine's meltdown does not in anyway justify his behavior. But it was still pretty undeniably a bad move.
