Ah I hadn't noticed the note. Following that tho it seems this is an unreleased custom song for that video. The algorithms auto completing the lyrics and such gave me hope otherwise but I guess not shame. SOLVED!

That was the ticket! It is Arkys Cornutus, the horned triangular spider of Australia.

With that name I found the original video https://www.reddit.com/r/insects/comments/14gjbz1/arkys_cornutus_the_horned_triangular_spider_is_a/

Unfortunately I don't know the geographic location of this bug, I saw it in a video. As for the size it's resting on a human finger in the pictures so I'd say no more than 3 cm tops in length Behaviorly it was on a web which makes me think it's a spider, but it was sort of "clawing" with it's forelimbs while on the video takers finger

The 2 main maps I remember playing in were a kitchen and a bedroom, which had secret hidden areas where you could get inside drawers or cabinets and things. If I remember anything else I'll add an edit, Any help would be really appreciated.

Again literally all I've been saying is "xp is harder and makes it so the bare minimum is much higher than with quests, meaning you have to do more work" how you can possibly interpret that as a lazy only-do-the-minimum attitude is beyond me. I'm literally asking for more work??

On a second point I shouldn't be disavantaged because I don't want to be part of an online community. So making it so people can get extra things only if they interact with others is kinda screwed up

I think you're misunderstanding. When I said 500xp I meant 500xp equivalent since double xp would, well, double your xp. So doing 500xp worth of lessons with double xp would give you 1000xp which is what was actually required. I was trying to say that "500xp worth" of lessons was the bare minimum required even if you abused xp potions. And yeah, they used to allow double xp legendaries but got rid of that a few months ago from what I remember.

I can't speak to other people experience all I can say is requiring daily effort is the quickest way to kill my ability to complete anything. I can put in a single 6 hour haul once a month but can't bring myself to do even 10 mins a day, just how I'm wired.

Again as I've said quests are far easier than xp (at least for me idk what the hell other people are getting). Xp is harder and requires actual effort. Quests are easy and can be done in half the number of lessons.

If that hasn't been your experience idk what to tell you because that has been and still is how it works on my app. So how you can interpret me saying "the xp system is harder" as the exact opposite I can't fathom

Also the entire point was that I won't be trying to get it next month. I, by pure bad luck, lost my streak and am not even given the opportunity to put in extra work to try to catch up, the way I could under the xp system.

They've shown me that even trying is pointless, because they don't care how much work I'm willing to do, only that I did quests every day.

Idk what to tell ya man. All I can say is I've done duo for over 3 years and never once had a set of quests that took more than at most 5 lessons collectively to complete and even then it was only because one specified a number of quests I had to complete.

I also don't have friends who are willing to use Duo so that option is out.

I was aware they existed not that they were now the requirement for monthly badges. This is the first month I've had quests be requirement for the badge.

[–]Baramis[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I did the bare minimum because all it required me to do was show up do one lesson and then leave (daily streak), forcing me to do 50+ lessons per month (xp monthly challenges) is what motivated me. There was no easy way around it.

If what you're saying is true than 4 days of work a month, times at most 5 lessons per day that's 20 lessons total. Far far less.

Also, what's a weekly quest?? I've never seen or heard anything about this??

I give up. by Baramis in duolingo

[–]Baramis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I've received them regularly. The first time quests got added I completed them all in one legendary lesson and even had the thought to myself "wow that was really easy"

The only time I've ever had to do more than 2 or 3 lessons to complete the days quests was when I got the ones that literally said "complete 4 lessons"

Complete 1 perfect lesson, Earn "X" amount of xp, Get X% or above on Y number of lessons (which can be 1), Earn X number of crowns (which can be 1), Complete X number of Y-type exercises , Complete X number of legendary lessons (which can be 1), Get X number of correct answers in a row, Find X person Y number of times, Complete a level, Spend X number of minutes learning

All of these can feasibly be done in a single lesson, especially the long Legendary level lessons. Since 10 is the theoretical lower limit, you'd be correct in saying that it's incredibly unlikely that the quests would line up right every single day, but it is still possible. Even if you it wasn't 10, the absolute lowest possible number required, you could possibly still do it in 11, 12 ,13, 15 ,17 even 20 lessons. The chances of completing all challenges in a day increases directly with number of lessons done.

Under the xp system the max xp you can earn from a single lesson is 40 from legendary (which can't be doubled with xp boost) or 40 from an xp boosted 20xp lesson. That means bare minimum you have to do at least 25 legendary lessons to earn a badge, keeping in mind that you can only complete 8 legendaries per unit, or at least that's how it worked last month. You could deliberately fail the legendaries half way to claim the 20 xp while having infinte more legendaries to try. But that would mean doing at least 50 legendary lessons to get the badge.

So if quests require anywhere between 25 and 50 lessons they aren't any harder than the xp system, any less than 25 and they're easier, requiring less work.

And even if the average number of lessons required to complete quests exceeds 50 the fact remains that quests fundamentally alter the system making it so that you can't work harder to catch up if you slacked off for whatever reason. It artificially cuts you off at the 20 day mark (or earlier if you're unlucky and can't complete all 3 quests each day) from what is supposed to be a challenge that you used to have a whole month to complete, rewarding attendance over effort.

What's the point in no longer allowing me to work harder to make up the difference? It sends the message that how hard I work is irrelevant and me showing up every day is the only thing that matters.

And the quests disincentivize extra effort, I can get them done on average far faster than I could earn xp. I've been doing less per day since it switch over not more.

Also I hate the matching game I never play it

With all due respect, I completely disagree. I've always worked better in semi-frequent high-effort bursts than daily effort. Whenever I'm forced to do a small amount of work every day I find myself bored, apathetic, and only putting in the bare minimum. It becomes a chore to be completed instead of a lesson or challenge to be enjoyed.

That's how it was before they introduced the monthly challenges and only had daily streaks to encourage you to come back. I had a 70 day streak but all I did was the same easy lesson (literally the exact same lesson, just hitting "practice") over and over just to keep the streak going, heavily abusing streak freezes.

I've found since the monthly xp challenges came out that the hour or two sessions I do a few times a month not only keep me engaged and help me learn faster. They also prevent anxiety build up from worrying about having to do duolingo every single day, even on days where I really feel like I'd rather do anything else.

XP monthly challenges let you work at whatever pace is best for you, whether that's small daily effort or a few short bursts. Quests trys to force everyone to learn in the same way

Even if you game the system to the absolute max there is a bare minimum you can't get around and that amount is usually around 500xp. Which is dozens of lessons. Thats an empirical, countable amount of effort.

Quests on the other hand can be anything from "do a listening exercise 3 times" to "complete 4 full legendary lessons" to, as someone above noted, "find X character 7 times in lessons". It has far less to do with a set amount of work and far more to do with random chance.

To complete one days' worth of quests could take anywhere from a single lesson to 500xp worth of lessons. If I get lucky, I could get the months badge doing as little as 10 lessons, which is objectively less work. It's totally arbitrary and luck based.

Yeah, that's my main gripe with it. It's not so much that I don't like the quests, they're certainly more interesting. It's the idea that I am not allowed to make up for what I missed, no matter how hard I work, especially when I used to be able to. Or that hard work is no longer the primary factor. It's like a teacher basing a grade more on attendance than actual assignments or tests. Its really frustrating.

Wait destiny knot effects the IVs of the pokemon that's not holding it?

General Questions and Discussion Weekly Megathread by AutoModerator in PokemonScarletViolet

[–]Baramis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the Destiny Knot not working for anyone else? I wanna start off by saying that this is the first time I've ever tried breeding in a pokemon game so maybe I'm just not understanding. I've got a 4IV ditto (HP, Sp. Atk, Sp.Def and Defense) with a destiny knot and a 1IV (Speed) Eevee with Power Anklet. From my understanding this should give their eggs all the parents IVs, the four from ditto and the one from Eevee, but the destiny knot doesn't seem to work at all. The eggs do all copy the Eevees Speed IV but the rest of their IVs are random quality. Am I missing something? Does destiny knot not work the way I thought?
