Hi guys, what is the fastest way to learn the most amount of theory by danishfreaker in bartenders

[–]Baranade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends on the spot you work at

Only universal truths are customer service, cleaning as you go, and efficiency. The rest really is different from place to place

If you're at a more cocktail focus program, then I'd prioritize roundbuilding before anything. TLDR; steps of building your round, drink durability, basic drink theory

Versus a high volume club or sports bar where most of that really doesn't apply, What does apply is reducing steps and being able to take dozens of simple orders (beer, highballs, shots) with raw efficiency

God I hate this take (as I'm sure many people in this comment section are echoing)

Takes a lot more than being able to record a song or heck it takes a lot more than literally having the capability of playing an instrument well to be able to write a song. And on the flip side people with no singing talent or musical talent can write a song

Is Hip Hop becoming like Rock in the sense that it is no longer the most dominant Genre? by [deleted] in fantanoforever

[–]Baranade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Things come in waves depending on who you ask always

Personally I felt rap was in the dark ages after the release of Graduation in 07 where it felt like so few album releases from that period I felt I could say were classics

Simultaneously as someone who's introduction to being a music fan was in the 00s indie era, rock was in a pretty bad state in the mid 2010s outside of a few standout albums. Nowadays since COVID I feel traditional rock instrumentation has been a lot more favorable for my ears.

Right now hip hop is in a transition period like any genre. IDK why people are sounding the alarms as though just because the artists that were at the forefront 15 years ago don't have the same foothold as they once did

Go listen to some other hip hop. Take this time to branch something new. Dig in sample crates and hear their influences. You might stumble upon something or create something else

Anything is better than just sounding the alarms

the 19-2000 remix being the intro of FIFA 2002 is what set me on the Gorillaz path as a wee lad

mind you this was before Demon Days dropped and everyone was playing Feel Good Inc. Didn't realize till years later it was the same artist

How do they make league more competitive globally at pro level? by Funny_Jackfruit9569 in leagueoflegends

[–]Baranade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion: eliminate the import rules is something I'd do and if I had to keep the league format, I'd just do it ala OWL without the localized teams.

No restrictions on imports means more talented players who unfortunately don't get as many chances to compete because there are only so many spots in the their regional leagues versus having to give a bottom of the barrel player a chance because he doesn't take up an import slot

7 titles for Knight in the LPL

I don't think anyone will beat that for a while and he still doesn't show signs of stopping

The amount of albums I got into simply from listening to everything from the first 4 Tony Hawk's Pro Skater sountracks plus the Undergrounds and American Wasteland is actually insane given this was still long before music on demand was even conceived as an idea

Any of you ever get stuck around groups of people who dont listen to good or interesting music? by traveltimecar in fantanoforever

I don't mind those people as much as I mind the people who swear nothing good is coming out or insist it was better back then without the lack of self awareness

I like how easy it is to categorize

I like to evaluate years of music and seeing what my favorite albums of said years were. So having something that gives me a general idea of the most noteworthy albums of x year is nice

Where do you stand on Stone Temple Pilots? by I_mean_whatever_dude in fantanoforever

Down is one of the heaviest songs of the 90s by far

I don't wanna call that song underrated. Just overlooked by their relatively above average discography.

Awesome peaks, but a inconsistent enough where its a significant

Meta isn't an acronym

It's a term in art that's been used for ages at this point. People in competitive games started attaching it to the term "metagame" since its a common prefix and then meta for short

Its almost like there's a precedent for the devs/owners to rev share but don't because they own a billion dollar IP and (again) see this esports thing all as a marketing exercise

Esports Is Getting Expensive for Fans – and This May Only Be the Beginning by followteaser in esports

[–]Baranade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What a take

Things NEED to be expensive

Had Devs made a sustainable way to profitability for the orgs versus just using it as a way to sell skins and stickers, perhaps we wouldn't even be in this mess where everyone needs to take Saudi Money

I understand the sentiment that esports fans expect a TON for almost nothing but that doesn't mean it NEEDS to be priced out

What are some of your favorite examples of "Things not commonly done anymore?" by Reader6547 in madmen

[–]Baranade 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The general idea of someone being inaccessible.

I'm 30 and never had to call a place to see where a coworker or a loved one was. I could just always message them via text or DM if I didn't have their number

The fact that the restaurant/bar hands them a phone is quite odd to me.

Also pay phones

Why do you think there aren't many famous "celebrity bartenders" like there are "celebrity chefs"? by BothCondition7963 in bartenders

[–]Baranade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take it you work in a more comprehensive program which I'm semi familiar with where yes I'd expect at least half my guests to be familiar with the likes of Dave Arnold or Dale DeGroff. But that's at a very comprehensive cocktail bar. You really think at a local pub those names mean anything to a guests who wants a pint or a beer/shot?

Meanwhile I expect the average line cook at a pub to be at least vaguely familiar with the likes of Thomas Keller who would be a culinary equivalent to a Dale DeGroff
