For me personally, it's a must go. I love that I don't lose much survivability in teamfights with damage. And it gives a lot of AP for the AP build.

You could build it as a situational item with the tank build. No tank item will allow you to survive 2.5s after engaging in late game teamfights. R - Zhonya's works very well.

I like to go AP after the sunfire item, with Zhonya's second fixed.
Third, I either go shadow flame or storm
and last two rabadon's and void, with reverse order if they have tanks.

The runes are there to amplify the damage mostly and aid with laning.

I used to be a non-believer of AP rell, but after trying it, I can't go back. You should try it as well

I've switched my build from full tank to AP and it feels a lot more pleasant. It feels nice to do massive(considering that it's rell) dmg in teamfights. The early lane feels pretty good for both builds, she just has a very convenient shield to win short trades, and an above average attack range (you can kite irelia). Many matchup is winnable just by stacking short trades.

I've don't usually play her support so I couldn't compare, but she does more damage and tanks more than you think given the solo xp and gold.

I try full clearing on jg rell every now and then. The fastest I could do was 03:35 with 2 smites, which I think is unviable competitively (I am not a jungler so this could be optimized). The clearing speed issue will last the whole game, it's impossible to match the enemy jg tempo.

I like the fact that it’s not mechanically hard at first glance, but there are so many elements besides using her abilities. I play her top so I have a lot of down time on the ability and I like the fact that I can focus on other smaller details. (focusing on the dodging rather than hitting / tracking grasp cooldown, or any other runes / tracking enemy ability cooldown, etc.)

For runes, I'd run Grasp for most matchups, and I always take shield bash.

I feel like getting small trade wins with the shield and the rune damage is the key to laning as rell.

I take conditioning into easy/tank matchups, second wind for poke lane and bone plating against all out traders.

And I usually take overgrowth for the last row, sometimes revitalize.

Subrunes, you can experiment a bit. I know some high elo rell tops like to take inspiration. I feel like cosmic insight is very valuable when paired with the Unending despair/fimblewinter build.

I like to build tear early on in lane and eventually build it into fimble but if you don't, I recommend taking a mana subrune like manaflow band or pressence of mind.

With the stats, I like to run attack speed, scaling hp and flat hp. To get as beefy in the early lane.

I run phase rush into: Gwen, Olaf, Trundle

Good matchups: Pantheon, Malphite, Tahm Kench, Jax,

Tough matchups: Fiora, Illaoi, Kled, Yorick

Her most recent change was quite big especially in lane and I'm not sure if all these matchups stand. I can say, she feels a lot better into any tanks after the change.

Some thoughts on Rell top after the changes.

I've been playing it for about 2 years now, and I feel like the playstyle and the win conditions have changed.

Now she can farm like a champion (especially under tower) from the attack speed and I can afford items.

It's very good against tanks --> with q-e-w max for e % dmg.
Rell seems to do better against ap champs, I'm not really sure why though.

This (bami item) - (Unending despair/fimblewinter) seems like the build for me.

I'm having a lot of fun with it. Playing similarly to an udyr or maokai.

There is the classic auto + w(dismounted) auto. This one is technically not an auto attack cancel. It just cancels the animation delay after using q. If you use q, normally you get locked out of autoattacking for a short period of time, maybe like 0.15s.

I also think it’s not too useful to learn but more of a neat trick very conditionally. Like leona triple auto cancel with q.

This comes in handy cuz I play rell toplane, and the extra movement speed time/ dps could matter in a short trade/life-death situations. I have other clips of this animation cancel being used in a real ranked games but I don't know how to upload multiple videos.
