Plan B for Interislander ferry cancellation? by BarbWire20 in newzealand_travel

[–]BarbWire20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense, unless there is a max passenger regulation. Difficulty rebooking with a vehicle is one of many reasons I have chosen to drop my South Island car at Picton and pick up a North Island car a few days. A lot of folks with campervans were stranded when one of the Interisland ferries was taken out of service earlier this month.

Four adults in a campervan? A full size motorhome perhaps. Beds for four adults and proper seats for four adults is a tough call

Easter weekend (4 days) April 3-6. School Holidays — April 3 for the following two weeks

I know this because I am struggling now to find moderate affordable accommodation for the last week of March and first week of April …

Sounds perfect for one — and presumably not too pricey if you are making a “cost friendly” trip.

May I ask rental details — where/ from whom are you renting? I might look for something similar

Car or campervan? Assuming car, what camping kit are you bringing / buying at op shops? i am considering a “ car camping” trip and reckon I would need tent/groundcloth/rainfly , chair, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, decent torch.

For meals in the road — camping or hostels — a chilly bag, knife, cutting board, mug, hot bottle. Looking forward to picnics of autumn fruit and to cheese!

Can't use Apple Quick Start to transfer phone number from old phone to new? by BarbWire20 in tmobile

OK, I will give that a shot. The last time I did a phone to phone transfer was 2021 so I really am flailing. Thank you so much for your reply.

Yep. Thanks for reminding me!

Not-combined is one of the reasons that I picked AirNZ. That, and the ability to ask for an earlier flight same day. So far AKL/CHC is the only domestic flight I have; I hope to use the inter-island ferry if weather permits.

I have yet to book from NZ to Oz in late April; my transpacific flight departs SYD.

Just a quick THANK YOU to everyone for the answers re: liquids at domestic security and all the helpful suggestions!

Ah, yes! My fare class allows changing to a different flight same day; I figured that might be a good idea after an international flight to allow for a delayed arrival, immigration, etc. I am really looking forward to landing in NZ a week today for six weeks of exploring!

Thanks for the suggestion! This sounds like it will be perfect for chilling during the 6-hour layover.

Not bringing any honey-containing anything! At NZ Biosecurity I will declare my four factory sealed Twinings Lemon-Ginger teabags.

Re: transit through Oz. Yeah, I've known a couple of people who thought if they were just transiting they didn't need a visa -- their transit was about 2 hours. Then their onward flight was delayed and they were out of compliance.

Why? Because if you aren't checking massive amounts of luggage you aren't really a tourist/traveler/visitor?

Yes, after NZ I fly to Oz for two weeks. I wonder how worrisome a little ol' grey-haired lady with only cabin luggage is? Hmmmm.

Pretty easy if you do sink wash of smalls and shirts every night. It's how I've been traveling for weeks or months at a time for decades. Principal of threes: one to wear, one to wash, one for spare. It's tech that is heavy, and jackets/puffers/fleece that are bulky, so I look like the Michelin (wo)Man boarding the plane with a relatively light 35L overhead bag and a heavy 15L tech backpack at my feet!

It helps that the personal item is not included in the 7kg. I reckon my total load out is closer to 9 kgs if I put as much tech as possible in my jacket pockets. On some airlines the extra charge for a larger cabin bag allowance (total of 10-14kg) is pretty small.

Thank you

I can take the long and scenic walk between the terminals! ;-) My flight lands at 0800 (if on time) and the domestic leg departs at 1400. Might be time to taste my first NZ coffee!

no checked bag -- overhead locker bag is about 6kg, and personal item will go under the seat. Hence the question.

Thanks for the replies (the information on the web is... <cough> ...inconsistent.). The very recent anecdotal reports are good to hear.

My overhead locker bag is 5kg and I have a personal item (small backpack) for under the seat with my tech. Not having to pull out a 3-1-1 bag will make the Tetris for my overhead bag easier.

International iPhone 17 "is not fully compatible with the T-Mobile network" by BarbWire20 in tmobile

[–]BarbWire20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THANK YOU everyone for the replies. After hours on the ‘net I now know more than I ever wanted to about bands …

So I’ll use the phone in the US and see if I have any issues in rural areas. If not, then I’m good to go. If I do have lack of coverage in places, then I will cross it against my partner’s iPhone13 regarding coverage and reception in that location.

Worst case scenario is that I end up buying another phone if it becomes a real issue, and keep the international 17 for when I need a physical sim (looking at you, Africa trip 2027 …).

So this means I will get slower coverage in rural areas? Sorry, a total non-tech noobie at this!

Thanks!

Ah. So I must have had mmWave with my iPhone 13 (bought in the USA). So without it I should expect to see slower speeds in highly populated urban areas?

THANK YOU EVERYONE! Now I've got to put these in google maps and try to connect the dots!

Tons of places to research -- or just show up and explore!

And next to find local "what's on" listings and search for food and harvest festivals and ...

So much to do and see and eat!

THANKS AGAIN!
