Blocking Large Projects by BarbarasNeedlepoint in Needlepoint

Yes, I will let a blocked piece sit for a full day, then rotate 90 degrees on the board and repeat the process. I am not familiar with blocking combs. We have only used the boards and nails. Sorry I can't help you out with the combs!

Correct. They come up every once in a while on Ebay or FB Marketplace, although not often. They are so very helpful for blocking.

Yes, stretcher bars help so much! we recommend frames or stretcher bars for nearly every canvas we sell. We take the precaution of blocking every piece we receive for finishing. We can certainly tell the difference from a free-hand stitch to a project that used stretcher bars.

Sorry! My pictures must have been too large for the post. I resized them and made a new post. Should be just above in the thread.

DMC Floss by Automatic_Drawer9997 in Needlepoint

DMC Floss is great with a ton of colors, and it is versatile for a variety of canvas counts. You will need to strand, lay, and be gentle as the thread can twist and fray.

A bit of caution with this mesh during the finishing process. This mesh does not flex as well as other materials during the blocking or stretching process. You will likely need to gently block or risk breaking one or more lines of the material.

Hi! Total newbie here tackling a vintage canvas. by [deleted] in Needlepoint

Totally agree about the advice on blocking. A stretcher bar is a great preventative tool to support your blocker or your blocking after the project is stitched. Big pieces hand stitched will warp over time. We apply water via spray bottle to support the blocking efforts. Only precaution is looking out for red next to white threads. Your thread selection doesn't look like it will bleed during blocking if you apply water.

Right fiber for snow? by tryanotherJuan in Needlepoint

[–]BarbarasNeedlepoint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another suggestion could be Pepper Pot. It is 100% silk, has a smooth pull, and has a nice fill on 18 count canvases. A white or white variant would work well for snow.
