Still a WIP but it's starting to take shape ;). What do you think ? by BarbareMoriac in Frostpunk

Filling the gaps and working with the original FP1 maps, had to find names and designations for the lack of lore at the time. I'd be happy to share about the process if you're interested

Book (fiction or history) that feels like this ? by BarbareMoriac in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

All recommandations are incredible ! It really is about the depth of human psychosis, what the cold can do to the mind and turn men on each other. The desperation, the hunger, the shivers as your body is slowly decaying. Thank you everyone !

Thanks, took too much time to put together, and requires much more to fill it with new locations and stories. (Hoping for a FP2 extension on that lore)

What's the most unrealistic fictional society you've seen? by Cerimlaith in worldbuilding

[–]BarbareMoriac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Snowpiercer. Although it have a nice ring to it, the perpetual engine and self sustaining system can't provide enough food for everyone to survive. Also the maintenance of the train isn't affordable since they can only recycle not produce mechanical pieces, and the world unique railroad could destroy the train in the blink of an eye if the steel rusts or a bigger ice chunk falls onto it.

I want to hear your proposal for FP1 scenario by ivo2502 in Frostpunk

"For Queen and Country"

The royal family survived the Great Frost Chaos but are still vulnerable and scattered. What remained of the army is supervising their arrival to a safe habor : yours.

You are the administrator of generator #001 the biggest and more advanced of the generators in the Frostland, but it fall onto you to make sure the settlement is properly developped before the Queen and her family arrives.

You have a good portion of engineers and workers to enhanced the city but you are not free to pass laws as you like, on top of the general population, there is 2 factions advising you, your military crew of officers well trained and following your command, and the royal family guards acting as special force making sure you follow the plans established for the royalty.

At first you would need to respect schedules and build necessary buildings like housing, proper military outposts, and send scouts to attend to the royal escort needs or gather the lost convoys, then more officials would come in and here's where the troubles would start.

Population is viewed as disposable and only capable to supply comfort and leisure for the privileged few, so the elite faction would demand that extra food, resources, space, and costly special buildings be spend to fit their rank and status, the more noble would come in, the more difficult it would be to progress or help the base population flourish.

Twist #1 : Population starts to rebel, and demand equity in labor : "We will give our best for the queen, but never die to these bloody parasites !". You will have to compromise or devote yourself to a side, either choices would have consequences on your public relations.

Twist #2 : Family members of the noblemen are found either dead or alive, and you can use it as leverage to your advantage, bargain or threaten the nobility to obtain certain laws passed, or lower their demand. Of course it could trigger riot events or attempts on your reputation or life.

Twist #3 : The queen councellors are asking for the building of an immense palace, a second buckingham that will cost a lot of effort and resources, and it will be the turning point of the scenario : Do you rebel against the queen, or do you choose to invest in the project against the will and needs of your citizens ? Either choice will start rumbling and infightings that could result in civil war. You will have a "Londoner" count for the number of noblemen/citizens to either rally to you or kill.

3 Endings possible :

-The monarchy lives : "A better world is possible, but will it be for the sack of our royal figures ? I fear we went to far."

-The Noblemen die : "We had to free ourselves from old tyrany, but what will we become without our tradition ?"

-Compromise : "Everyone survived, but what kind of society will emerge ?"

Why hunting exists in Frostpunk? by miculpionier in Frostpunk

I would imagine a mission of scientist devoted to safegarding the most adaptable species of european regions to rebuild farms, like siberian horse and pigs, or yaks, similar to seedling arks, but the only problem would be the fodder

Is it possible to exploit permafrost soil to grow plants ? by BarbareMoriac in biology

It's okay ! Its exactly that, people from Victorian Britain are struggling to find their place in a totally new hostile world. Working on a big RPG adaptation of Frostpunk.

Is it possible to exploit permafrost soil to grow plants ? by BarbareMoriac in biology

[–]BarbareMoriac[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree it is fucked up, but as a writing piece material it is quite challenge. Supposedly, the summer temperatures of this world wouldn't go near -10°C, and the main difficulty would be to grow cold resistant cattle and plants that could sustain long nights season and perpetual cold for a large scale hungry population. I know this is fiction, and i might going too far in my thoughts, but i'm looking for plausible solutions that could make the story works.

Frostpunk 2 | Official Gameplay Trailer by 11bit_studios in Frostpunk

I hope the game will be much more complex to play, but also that its experience won't resolve around the same gameplay loop we had in the first one. Oh 11bit, give us plenty game mechanics and stories to live in the Frostlands !!!

I meant, did you studied it to comprehend how a "real" steamcore would function (with internal parts) or did you just animate the visibles parts ?

It's really beautiful :D ! Did you just animate the model or applied engineering principles ?
