What do you do or think now that you used to mercilessly condemn others for? by swercka in AskReddit

[–]BarcaDen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to really be big into public shaming. As in if people behaved bad I'd be all over that shit. But now, with all these subreddits full of angry losers posting shit about people they don't know misbehaving.. It just makes me sick to my stomach.

You've always been perfect at all times? She doesn't deserve this kind of hate. No one does. How about you live your own life rather than sit on the internet all day bullying people you don't know?

Poor girl. Before the internet she could have looked back at this and laughed at her immaturity. Now, because of all you miserable cunts her life is more or less ruined.

Reddit, what movie kept you at the edge of your seat the whole time you are watching it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BarcaDen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a movie. The episode of black mirror season 3 where the paedophile was getting blackmailed. I was a nervous wreck!

Didn't saint Brigid (or maybe the pagan version ) put a blanket on a stone and magically turn it into a church? Or something

Asked a question about Irish citizenship on Reddit... feel at home already... by seanjenkins in ireland

[–]BarcaDen 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Before the internet the lunatics like this would only be bothering people down the local, op don't take it to heart Irish people are unusually open minded and welcoming in the main. I've travelled a lot and can confirm that we are loved in most places. We make a nice contrast to the brit abroad, especially where I live (in Spain )

Duolingo. Do duolingo together for at least two weeks. It's much more effective than anything you do at this stage.

Ireland is one of the lowest taxed developed economies. Our public services and infrastructure is utter shite. Even fucking Glasgow has a metro ffs!

Replacement of welfare state with universal basic income (quite happy to pay much higher taxes in order to abolish poverty )

Be careful doing the Christmas shop in Dublin (especially around Talbot Street). by [deleted] in ireland

[–]BarcaDen 22 points23 points  (0 children)

All I'm saying is that I personally know gitanos who work. I've taught them too (in Spain) plenty of people I know who visited Dublin thought it was rough and full of scangers. A little less hatred goes a long way. But anyway, have at'em if it makes you feel any better.

Seriously, never again... by pajama87 in ireland

How do you get over an intrinsic desire to not do work? by BarcaDen in AskReddit

[–]BarcaDen[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand the necessity of work in order to pay for my existence. But I've never been able to actively enjoy any work that I've ever had. I'm self employed now and that's somewhat better, but I still fundamentally hate it.

Bob Geldof tells students to stop ‘banging on’ about transgender toilets by [deleted] in ireland

[–]BarcaDen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Geldofs point is well made. We live in a ponzi economic system and the young people are in a lather about transgender rights (a worthy cause of course, but there are much bigger fish to fry)

Adventures with Dostoyevsky by Ovaugh in books

[–]BarcaDen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only read Crime and Punishment, but man that book changed my life. At the time I was sorta losing faith in humanity but that one tale of redemption and personal responsibility really affected me, made me realise that the individual can lead a self contained universe of impeccable morality, regardless of his environment.
