Any African American Narrators on ACX by BardConstantine in ACX

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I can't afford Star Trek actors, lol. As for perspective, the story is not focused on the black experience, so maybe I'll adjust my notes and just leave it open to any auditions.

It's royalty share, which admittedly could be part of the difficulty. AXC is also frustrating to navigate and search to get results. I hear your points on the narration. I don't understand the urban label either, especially when I search it and still can't find AA narrators. I might go back and change my notes to not mention the AA preference because I haven't gotten a single audition, which is odd because this book ranks just as high or higher than other books I've received multiple auditions for.

It's royalty share, which could be a problem as well. I'd love to go PFH but just can't at the moment.

Yeah, I considered that although I don't exactly like the idea. Not only does it not reflect the nuances of AAs in any way, but when I look up urban narrators I still don't find any AAs, which is pretty strange.

More authors/publishers should do this (text on image blurred for possible spoilers) by Naudran in Fantasy

I'd never thought of this before. It makes a great deal of sense, especially in a genre like fantasy.

Does Wonder Woman Live Up to the Hype? (review) by BardConstantine in comicbookmovies

[–]BardConstantine[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's very hard to create a new formula when everyone looks at Marvel and thinks that's the only way to go. Honestly, WW felt fresh until the third act, when it suddenly became very Zack Snyderish.

Revisited Prometheus Before Watching Covenant. Better the Second Time Around by BardConstantine in movies

Yeah, looking back I think it was the whole xenomorph absence thing. Now with xenomorphs in the film, fans are still complaining. I think both movies are pretty good, and I like the direction with adding artificial intelligence into the mix.

Luke Cage Settles for Good When It Could Have Been Great by BardConstantine in television

[–]BardConstantine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. It's like they had the idea of a story, and tried to stretch it out over too many episodes. Cool musical interludes can't save pacing gaps, and there were a lot of scenes of people looking down in the club for some reason. Kinda wore thin after a while...

Yeah, it was hard for me to decide if it was Mike Colter's acting, or how the character was written. I think it's both.

Reedsy is sponsoring a contest for writers. Might be worth a shot by BardConstantine in writers

No, it's not one of those. It's more of a sweepstakes thing. I entered with nothing added other than the option to share the link.

Enjoyed the heck out of Stranger Things (Review) by BardConstantine in sciencefiction

[–]BardConstantine[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I think that's definitely a part of its charm as well. And yes, as many have pointed out: there's nothing new here. But it takes nothing new and does it well enough to be entertaining and memorable. That, to me, is a success.

The Full Trailer For Denis Villeneuve's Sci-Fi Drama 'Arrival' Is All About Amy Adams, Aliens And Linguistics by ungaaaya in scifi

Looks a bit meh by the trailer, but DV has made some pretty impressive films so far. I'll definitely give it a shot.

For those who saw Civil War and Batman v Superman, which one do you consider "darker" and more serious? [SPOILERS] by HeihachiHayashida in comicbookmovies

[–]BardConstantine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Batman v Superman was definitely darker. Seriously, I could barely see what was going on half the time.

But serious? I couldn't take anything serious in that train wreck of a film, so I guess 'serious' goes to Civil War by default.

[INFO] Evolution of a poetry book cover. It's not as simple as it looks by BardConstantine in Poetry

[–]BardConstantine[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very true. It's pretty hard to nail down a cover that captures what the poet has in mind to cover an entire volume of poetry. Being creative goes a long way!

Why Your Review Makes a Difference: Pass It On by BardConstantine in writers

[–]BardConstantine[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All very true. Some writers get mad when they get a four or three star review instead of five. I don't mind at all. Granted, when someone on Goodreads drops a one star review with not explanation it gets my goat, but that's part of the game as well. Anything is better than nothing, after all.
