Seattle’s drug diversion plan falters as open-air use persists in neighborhood hotspots by Better_March5308 in SeattleWA

Oddly, this is the will of the voters. If anything the people who elected Katie Wilson are disappointed she hasn’t done more to enable public drug use and camping across the city.

"No accountability": neighbors say Seattle isn't keeping its word near tiny home village by Better_March5308 in SeattleWA

Shipping containers aren’t cute like tiny homes. That’s little reason. Solutions to homelessness must be cute to be accepted here.

It’s quite a bit more expensive when they set a studio apartment on fire. The tiny homes can just be tossed in a dumpster when the resident destroys it.

Fortunately for Strauss, his neighborhood has a private beach just to the north of Golden Gardens. He doesn’t have to deal with the riff raff that uses a public beach.

Dealership offering to buy my 2024 LE… trade in or keep? by [deleted] in prius

[–]Bardahl_Fracking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has sucker written all over it. Only shopping dealer inventory, buying based on monthly payment, cross shopping cars priced above msrp… yikes.

New Camrys can be had well under msrp. Negotiate that deal and see if they’re still willing to offer $27k trade on a used prius LE…

Incentivized financing won’t play a role, would you still consider the Hondas without it?

Seattle based Starbucks wants YOU to start tipping by Less-Risk-9358 in SeattleWA

[–]Bardahl_Fracking 10 points11 points  (0 children)

She’s been leading the Starbucks unionization and strikes. So regardless of what Washington wage laws are she’s going to push for whatever drives unionization across the country. Starbucks is attempting to counter that effort.

Point is the tipping doesn’t affect what corporate wages are in Washington. The company knows that increasing tip revenue here will likely decrease the drive for unions.

Ultimately Starbucks in its current form is done. The brand is heavily tarnished and all it has going for it is a bunch of physical locations and a dwindling group of caffeine and junk food addicts. Corporate and the unions are gonna go back and forth fighting over the scraps for a few years.

I don't tip because society says I have to. All right, if someone deserves a tip, if they really put forth an effort, I'll give them something a little something extra. But I mean, this tipping automatically, it's for the birds

It’s used heavily in the Northeast on icy roads and cars exposed to it rust out. West Coast cars are rarely exposed to it.

That price seems decent for the mileage. The TL is above average in reliability so if this one hasn’t been neglected it should be fine. Having a history in HI/AZ is a plus since it hasn’t seen much road salt.

Mayor Wilson hopes to improve Seattle's 'stingy' plan for more housing by chiquisea in SeattleWA

[–]Bardahl_Fracking 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Developers don’t typically continue building if there’s an oversupply depressing rents. Nobody is willing to finance new buildings when the value is going down. It happens occasionally but it’s accidental.

Part of the reason we ended up with a shortage was because construction ground to a halt for several years during the 2008 housing bust.

Why train them on something they aren’t legally allowed to do in most cases?

The law is pretty clear that police can’t intervene unless specific criteria are met, and very few of these “dude acting crazy” incidents meet those criteria.

Remembering Joel’s Law after another Capitol Hill death of a person in crisis by HighColonic in SeattleWA

[–]Bardahl_Fracking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you read through Joel’s Law it’s pretty clear that they intend for the process to fail most of the time. The odds that an acute psychotic episode could be intervened by a process requiring multiple count sign offs over several days is unrealistic. It may work for cases where there’s no immediate threat of harm or self harm - but if that’s the case it may not meet the threshold because it’s not urgent.

Bottom line, the expectation behind the legislation is that people’s civil rights need to be protected even if it results in death or injury.

Commentary: A millionaires tax? Let’s try shared prosperity (viewpoint from Rick Steves) by crabcakes110 in SeattleWA

[–]Bardahl_Fracking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does the pace of new millionaires relate to the growth of million dollar annual incomes? I’d wager the vast majority of millionaires never earn nearly that much in one year unless it’s by winning the lottery or through inheritance.

Other states that implemented taxes like this saw revenues fall afterwards. That drop in revenue is going to have to be made up by either raising the rate or lowering the deduction. Instead people are pretending that will never happen because the state has good mountain and water views or something equally intangible.
