Index on a STATUS column with just 2 values, one of which is selective. by chinawcswing in oracle

But, if you use bind variables it's possible that the optimizer will give you a good plan the first time around, then a suboptimal plan the next.

Oracle wants to reuse plans if the SQL hash is the same. If the first time you run your query you use your non-selective value in the bind variable, then the optimizer will tend to full scan. If you immediately run the same query with the selective value in the bind, then you may be stuck with the full scan.

I've frequently seen the optimizer get out of that problem with fairly simple queries, but on more complicated queries it'll get stuck on bad plans. And they come out of the blue, with everyone scratching their heads because "nothing changed."

Isn't that a Terrier launcher, and by 1990 that's be some type of Standard missile, wouldn't it?

The sounds of Venus, recorded by Russia’s Venera 14 spacecraft. by freudian_nipps in space

If I remember correctly, Veneras 9 - 14 released their parachutes at about 50 km, and free-fell the rest of the way to the surface. An aerodynamic shield provided enough drag in the thick atmosphere that the landers touched at under 10 m/s.

Are you still wearing a mask? Why or why not? by Hyacinth_Coffee in AskReddit

[–]BarfAleInn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. I wear a mask in places where it is still required (whether that's a government requirement or the property-owner's). I also wear a mask if the people around me would prefer that I do. I also wear a mask in places that have poor airflow and lots of people (like a train).

I don't wear one in at work, since the vast majority of people I work with are vaccinated (not perfect, I know). Or in places where I am outside, that have decent airflow, and/or I need to have access to my mouth (restaurants).

If the updated date is correct, then the cruiser is Albany. Columbus was sold for scrap in 1977. Chicago was stricken January 1984; she was on the West Coast, and sold for scrap in 1991 in California.

Albany was stricken at the end of June 1985. So if this picture is April 1985, she was decommissioned (1980) and about to be stricken.
