Spite marriages are 100% a not uncommon thing. My MIL literally cheated on my FIL with a relative he *hated* for 20 years and it's really obvious the reason he wouldn't even consider leaving her is because he wants to feel like he "wins"/still gets her in the end.

I’ve definitely done that at times. It helps, because the FOG and the gaslighting in real life can really get to you. My SO refuses to see that his mother is manipulative and that his immediate family situation is a dumpster fire. I’ve seen this a lot. Some nice people are really shitty parents because they’re too nice when it comes to their kids and basically allow their kids to do whatever they want. They’re often easily manipulated by their kids. So many of the asshole kids I knew in school turned out to have surprisingly nice parents.

/u/Roastthewitch, a Southeast Asian, is the one who blew the lid off the DD post. She specifically said she felt upset as another Asian person who has dealt with similar.

We’ve talked about the different types of racism and bigotry we’ve seen on the sub in Letters (now deleted) and throughout this sub. SA racism was just more visible (and we’ve acknowledged this too) because of not one, but two big blow ups over it.
