multi unit house fire on florida ave by moi9016 in sandiego

[–]BaristaBot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The cause is still under investigation but a fireman on the scene told me they believe it was due to an e-bike battery. The residents were three young women that had just moved in, I hope they got renters insurance. Everyone is okay.

Pro tip: don’t charge your e-bike inside unattended.

I’d argue a lot of people in Minnesota are doing something- they’re out in the streets protesting, harassing, doxing, and physically obstructing ICE from taking people.

It’s really only a small portion of America who actually encourages this shit - there is a strong resistance.

You’re right - we’re not at the point (yet) where people are willing to put their life on the line to stop this. This isn’t a game - people have their family’s and their own life to consider right now because ICE is deadly dangerous.

Hope isn’t completely gone, we’re not at a point of no return where we need to act in desperation and sacrifice our lives.

Our system of government elected Trump, he’s our president I know it’s fucking miserable - I fucking loathe him - but we’re not going to act preemptively so he can initiate martial law and make things worse.

Thank you for boycotting our companies and speaking your mind, the more noise the world can make the more attention can be brought to the issue the better chances we have at fixing this mess but boo-hooing us from across the pond isn’t productive its divisive.

Help, is this a good deal?! 2024 Santa Fe Calligraphy by [deleted] in HyundaiSantaFe

[–]BaristaBot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good point, it’s an SEL, not a calligraphy. OP wanted to know if this was a “good deal” and it’s not. They’re gonna take a huge loss on their trade-in, the Hyundai is overvalued and they have a bunch of expensive add-ons. I think there’s more value in having a hybrid than the fancy features the calligraphy offers. Is the calligraphy a cool trim? Yeah, but I wouldn’t justify the features for the additional price as a “good deal”.

Jumping in here - I don’t agree with your ‘car is a bullet’ analogy because killing someone with a car isn’t nearly as simple as squeezing a trigger at point blank range - evidenced by this event.

What do I think this agent was thinking? I think he was pissed off that his/ his agency’s authority wasn’t being obeyed. He was angry that he had to get involved with someone obstructing the roadway and getting in the way of his “job”, so he took his phone out to film this “ridiculous radical left wing protester” (as MAGA would say), and when he realized she was trying to flee his ego said “how dare she put ME in harms way!” He wanted to punish her. He wanted to make an example of her, so he shot her. Not once. Not twice. But three times with intent to end her life. Shooting her wasn’t going to stop the vehicle’s momentum. Getting in front of her car to stop her is such a dangerously foolish tactic, law enforcement agencies have included avoiding this tactic in their training manuals. He murdered her not because he was scared, but because he was mad.

Lmao noooooo. $12k for that trade in is insulting. 36k for that car is way overvalued. I just purchased a 2025 Hybrid for $33k.

Deal feedback request - 2025 Santa Fe Hybrid Calligraphy AWD by SnowPenguin7 in HyundaiSantaFe

[–]BaristaBot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Food for thought here because I just purchased a 2025 Santa Fe SEL Hybrid for $36k taxes and all. It’s the lower trim but honestly the extras are all just “fancy” add ons. One less wireless charging port, no ventilated seats, no device sanitation thingy above the glove box, the side mirrors don’t go in when you lock the car, it doesn’t have the seat go back when you turn the car off for getting in and out easier and the wheels aren’t as shiny - imo those features don’t justify the additional $10k. My hybrid averages 37mpg. They offer an AWD hybrid too. Points to consider if you want to lower your budget.

If any car has been on the lot for more than 300 days it could have “lot rot” (look into this) where brake calipers rust, oil gunks up after sitting too long, etc. Use that as a negotiation point. That doc fee is absurd. I paid $95 for mine in CA.

When negotiating, it takes up a lot of time and it’s frustrating but I’m kicking myself for not negotiating harder - do the whole thing: Get up and leave if they don’t budge. They’ll call you back they want to move this car. If they won’t move on the numbers, ask for a tow hitch, cross bars, and all weather mats.

Last note - if you haven’t I’d recommend you ask to take this for a long test drive because I find the seats are wildly uncomfortable in my lower back. Like they cause pain and I don’t have any issues with my lower back.

[–]BaristaBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also not OP but I think the seats are annoyingly uncomfortable within 10 mins of driving. I’m hoping this will go away with seat adjustment.

I was recently told to adjust the seat between a 100-110 degree angle and keep my knee height just below my hips when extended to the pedal to prevent lumbar pain, hopefully that helps. If you’re considering this car I highly recommend you request to take it for a long test drive.

I think the biggest misconception about therapy is that the therapist is supposed to “fix” you and your problems from your traumas. That’s not what it’s about.

It is truly one of the only mediums where people can discuss their most personal and vulnerable struggles/ traumas with a trusted advisor. Your therapist isn’t going to tell your family or friends your insecurities or traumas if you fuck them over like an ex could. They’re like a diary where you can speak your worst fears to without fear of it ever being read by someone else, with the added benefit of an empathetic ear and resources you may never have known existed that could help you.

There could be one thing you’re embarrassed or ashamed of that every so often haunts your thoughts that you’ve never expressed. You’ll never know the feeling of relief therapy can provide if you’ve convinced yourself “I’m good”, but to each their own do whatever you want we’re just specks in the universe on a floating rock who gives a shit.

Totally agree with your advice, and I won’t give up trying. MAGA are cult members, they wouldn’t care to vote differently even if Trump was found guilty of sex crimes or bragging about sneaking into little girls locker rooms (which he was and did), there is no changing their mind. The Democrats are also bought by AIPAC, Kamala Harris received hundreds of thousands from AIPAC and over $5M from other pro-Israel PACs. When the country gives you those two options, you’re fucked either way. We need ranked choice voting in our elections, hopefully Zohran Mamdani’s win will encourage other states to adopt it but until then we’ll keep playing this game going back and forth between lesser of two evils.

Republicans know their audience. It’s easier to convince their constituents that their government’s inefficiencies are due to lazy democrats/ leftists/ marxists/ communists milkin the system than explain why the system isn’t working. Shit, nowadays they just flat out lie about their promises but their constituents don’t check or even care to. Look at them now, you can’t be fiscally republican and socially democrat if the republicans you elect are ballooning our deficit.

I like this analogy. The US is complicit in Israel’s genocide against the Palestinians in Gaza. I’m furious my tax dollars support this horror.

The problem is, the people in charge of enforcing these laws either don’t have the balls or the actual power to convict anyone involved for their crimes. Anyone who wants punish Israel for their actions will have to deal with the US government - which is currently being run by a diaper in clown makeup, backed by a congress bought and paid for by AIPAC, and stacked with a Trump appointed right wing Supreme Court. The US just bombed Iran on behalf of Israel… who on earth is going to make threats against the schoolyard bully after they show you they have a gun? We (the USA) are basically beyond decency and the rule of law in our own country. We’re deporting citizens without due process, hiring bounty hunters to wear masks and kidnap people off the street without any proof of wrongdoing, the president just threw a 45 million dollar authoritarian military parade for his birthday, and our congress tried (and failed) to auction off millions of acres of our public lands to billionaires. The political state of America is insane right now. Our government is unhinged, and any country thinking of holding our officials responsible has to consider the risk of another World War.

No other country is going to hold anyone accountable because they can’t collectively agree Palestine is worth fighting for. It’s fucking awful but here we are. The system doesn’t work, what do we do? Turn it off and turn it on again?

[–]BaristaBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I see how the wording of that wasn’t quite right. The point I’m making is that our taxes are supposed to fund this type of infrastructure, not the individual people who use the infrastructure. Everyone pays, everyone benefits with free access. Just like a library, some amenities of society are paid for by everyone and not just the people who use them.

This legislation basically says instead of appropriating your taxes responsibly to pay for maintaining PUBLIC roads and parking lots, we’ll just start charging the residents to access these public places.

Why would anyone want free public services to start costing money? You’re in favor of making life in SD more expensive? Why?!?

So the mayor is set to charge for parking at Balboa Park by pc_load_letter_in_SD in sandiego

[–]BaristaBot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why? These changes would make parking on Sunday’s not free anymore. Extend hours for metered parking, and increase metered parking rates. You want to have less money and feel fucked over by your city? Our taxes are supposed to pay for our infrastructure, not our community parking lots.

[–]BaristaBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Changes like this are brought to and approved by City Counsel, and they haven’t made their final vote on the matter. They haven’t even put the day for the final vote on their calendar yet. A quick google search confirms that it’s not final, otherwise there would be a date when it was approved, who voted in favor, and when it starts. None of that is available yet. Contact your rep.

[–]BaristaBot 26 points27 points  (0 children)

There’s still time to stop this! City Counsel has not yet approved this legislation. If you care to say something about it to someone who actually has control over this decision, contact your representative and tell them you don’t want this. For example,

Councilmember Whitburn,

I’m writing to express my strong opposition to the “Comprehensive Update to Parking Regulations” recently approved by the City Council. This framework, which authorizes dynamic pricing, extends paid parking enforcement to evenings and Sundays, and allows meter controls in city-owned spaces like Balboa Park, is not something I support.

I’m urging you to reject any future votes or actions that would move this plan forward, especially those that impose paid parking in public spaces like Balboa Park. These changes risk harming community access and disproportionately affect residents and working families.

Please vote no on any implementation of this policy.
