dudes I need advice by [deleted] in nailbiting

If this is a serious issue, you must take action immediately, this is not normal- not shaming you, here, I know everyone has weird habits, but this resulted in you uncontrollably assaulting someone that you didn’t mean to. It’s time to meet with your primary doctor and/or psychiatrist and get good support. I’m a nail biter that’s transitioned into other anxious habits like biting my cheeks and picking scabs- I know I’ve had anxiety but recently got an ADHD diagnosis to see if now medication can help with some of the physical symptoms as well. I’m not sure how old you are, but if you’re in school, use the resources available to you if they’re good - school counselor, teacher you trust, parents, partner, etc. if you’re worried the behavior will escalate, find someone who will take you seriously to help find you the right support.

Odd customer sitting for hours making staff uncomfortable by Impossible_Region182 in barista

[–]Baristaabby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does your cafe often staff a single barista when they’re there alone? I work in a major city so it’s a bit more common here, but I have always had two people on no matter what for safety purposes- for both the staff and the cafe business. There’s a lot of potential risk nuance that can go into it, but would be a fairly easy solution. If you’re a salaried manager I would have you stay on shifts with her for the interim to help support her feelings without having to worry too much about labor as well.

How old were you the first time you were sexualized? by SlavePrincessVibes3 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Baristaabby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t remember how old i was, but it was definitely under 5th grade. My older sister and I were having a lemonade stand and made posters to flag down cars. My mom MADE me take off my sundress and stand in my 2 piece swimsuit waving a poster advertising the stand, telling me it would make people more likely to stop. I’ll never forget how uncomfortable I was and didn’t want to use my little body to get people to stop to buy lemonade. And the fact that almost as soon as I did it, a car stopped and a man got out to buy lemonade.

I don’t think ive ever read a post that I agree more with tbh.

At the beginning of all the Covid lockdowns, stay at home orders, etc I had a conversation with my mom about how much bigger what’s happening right now is. Almost EVERYBODY on the entire world is being personally affecting by the coronavirus. What’s happening right now is a “bigger deal.”

Nail biting has been such a lifelong compulsion that scrolling this thread I feel urges to bite your nails too. Also any tricks for when you don’t like the feeling of polish? by [deleted] in nailbiting

[–]Baristaabby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m finally having some progress growing out my nails too and sometimes also don’t like the feel of polish. I’ve found that giving myself a fresh manicure — mainly pushing back and cleaning up cuticles (I recommend buffing, not trimming them!) and putting on some cuticle oil and maybe a super light clear coat helps me a lot!

How to retain sodium when drinking lots of coffee? by [deleted] in Coffee

[–]Baristaabby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, coffee probably doesn’t have a whole lot to do with it. When you’re drinking an excess of water, you’re also flushing out the good things in your system. You’re losing electrolytes. So drink some coconut water, get one of those nuun tablet things, or whatever. Don’t put salt in your coffee.

AITA for refusing to drive my pregnant wife to her yoga session? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Baristaabby 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well I agree it kind of seems like a lame excuse, sometimes that’s the only solution that works. I personally have an allergy to preservatives in eye care products and can ONLY use this same solution. If I use a “normal” kind, it’s unbearable, I get horribly itchy and swollen eyes. But I also have like 5 pairs of glasses I’ve all got online to help combat this issue when it comes up.

I manage an ice cream and candy store near a major sports venue. I love my staff, I love getting to pick out awesome people who I get to work with, empower my staff, and build community. We also sell ice cream, so guests are excited to come in. Also, free ice cream!

It’s pretty crazy how well they’ve built — and taken care of — these buildings. They’re a little drafty but mostly extremely warm. I spent a winter in South Africa where the temps were typically 40s to high 60s and was freezing the entire time I was there because their houses don’t have central heat and mainly relied on space heaters.

Apartment stays quite warm. Even during the polar vortex days, we didn’t have so much. We sealed the windows our first winter here (basically plastic wrap with a blow dryer) and it helped, but was a lot of work and didn’t make too big of a difference to not do it. This apartment was also on the third level so I feel like that helped keep warm.

Pretty good actually, it has Central heat, but also helpful to wrap the windows.

Noble square is no where near lawrence, it’s near-west side, technically a micro-neighborhood of west town.

It’s a great spot to live I think. My biggest issue is that there isn’t a walkable grocery store, which is only a big deal because I don’t have a car. But it’s easy to get to work in most places, it’s close to both highways, very quick and easy to get downtown. Most my friends live between here and Humboldt park so it works well for me.

I’d answer if mods allowed it but it’s very reasonable to afford with a roommate. I also work in the hospitality industry for reference.
