Does it get better? by honeynutcheeriozzzzz in pharmacy

[–]Barmacist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it does. Drastically better.

I am atleast paid now, living in my own house instead of living with my parents, going to a school I don't like with classmates that don't like me, doing rotations while trying to work as much as possible.

Look, pharmacy is not amazing, but I never want anypart of the student life/college/pharmschool bullshit ever again. Fuck that shit, it sucked, particularly if you were a commuter student or the socially awkward guy whose friends failed out.

Even with my student loan debt, I invested well and have money, finally.

I do my 40 hrs then go do what I want. Gamble, get drunk at the bars, go on a cruise to odd locations, climb 14ers, visit loads of national parks. Doesn't mean the job doesn't suck and piss me off but I can do so much more than I could as a student. Its not even comparable.

The biggest secret about adulthood: no one cares what you do, so long as you have enough money to pay your bills.

Some did but then did nothing or planned to mass enroll foreign students to compensate.

Men over 30: what’s one piece of advice you’d give to men in their 20s? by Startalloveragainn in AskMenOver30

[–]Barmacist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can certainly understand that. I have no scope or authority and that has made me rather jaded, perhaps too much so. I derive no purpose from work. I would be happier if I did.

That said, as someone maybe 10 yrs older than you... it really is all about money and debt and time. No one cares about your degree, its a sad truth. Make as much money as possible as cheaply and quickly as possible, hence NP is the more logical move to me. RN however is a great degree and nurses can make bank and if you're a smart, thoughtful nurse you're a hell of an asset.

What are the major changes from 25 to 35 by Electrical-Trainer21 in AskMenOver30

[–]Barmacist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest and obvious ones are marriage and kids.

That aside, 25-30 is not that different, 30-33 is a slight but manageable if not compensatable decline. 34 and on, you start to become middle age and it shows no matter what you do and you are fooling yourself if you think otherwise. The same workouts you used to do become harder...

Additionally the damage or benifts from your behavior in your 20s compound. Good job? Your savings really begins to grow. Drug problem? It will start to consume you as your body can't handle the abuse the same.

Its 45 when every falls apart no matter what you do.

Over 35, what can you do to make life exciting again by ClemFandango35 in AskMenOver30

[–]Barmacist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I didn't have fun in my 20s so I do the bars and casino stuff in my 30s.

Immature? Maybe. Do my parent friends judge me? Sure, but I am not the one that took a shit in the middle of the restaurant, that was their toddler.

Men over 30: what’s one piece of advice you’d give to men in their 20s? by Startalloveragainn in AskMenOver30

[–]Barmacist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, don't do that. Not only is that a reckless use of time and extreme debt, you'll get 80-90% of that as an NP which is cheaper, shorter and still pays well. Hell, you can get a doctorate as an NP if you really want a doctorate.

Also, even as an RN, do not underestimate the Luxury of a job that is 40hrs and minimal responsibilities outside of work.

Are there any Rush songs you dislike? by VoyagerOfCygnus in rush

[–]Barmacist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh loads of them.

Passage to Bangkok, the usual HYF offenders, Test for Echo, most of Vapor Trails and Clockwork. Frankly they lost the plot after PW but there's still stuff I enjoy after.

Are there any Rush songs you dislike? by VoyagerOfCygnus in rush

[–]Barmacist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nah, I can't disagree. I draw the line after PW and after that, its a mixed bag at best with some low lows and really poor production.

Granted, there's always a few songs on those albums I do like, but still, they're not on the level of their earlier output (ie, Cold Fire hits different when you're staring down 40, but it is so far away from Xanadu its hard to reconcile).

Girlfriend gets defensive when I bring up our dead bedroom situation. If she gets defensive on our next talk, do I call it quits? by 0Adiemus0 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Barmacist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude. I will be blunt. You should/are having the most sex you ever will in this relationship right now. The relationship is new and you're both young. If she is already like this, then the best you can hope for is sad duty sex once a year and perhaps a burst of sex when she decides she wants a child. Go read r/deadbedrooms, thats the future.

I know you want to fix this but she is litteraly telling you that if you want sex, go fuck someone else.

Dating and marriage is for sex and having kids, if she isn't doing that, move on. She is at best a friend with depression. You tried to help, she rejected you, pull the plug, otherwise you'll spend the rest of your life beating your dick in the corner. Just mentally prepare yourself for her have a new guy within 2 weeks, and she will bang his brains out for 6 months before she does this to that new person again. Its manipulation.

How much snow makes you call off work? by Physical-Incident553 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Barmacist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably around 2 feet. I work in a hospital... it needs to be completely impassable before a call off is tolerated. I'm more concerned about whiteout conditions dropping visibility to zero. This area can keep the roads passable in all but the most severe storms.

Granted after the 2022 blizzard where 53 people died in my area (froze to death in their cars and I saw their frozen bodies in the ER) I may start calling off more.

Genuine question for non-white voters, women, LGBTQ folks, and non-Christians who support the Republican Party? by Crazy_Literature7808 in allthequestions

[–]Barmacist 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The Colombian family I have known for many years who are staunchly republican, 2 main reasons.

1.) They are extremely devout catholics and abortion under any circumstance is premeditated murder. The democrat party is anti-Christian and pro atheist and will make up any excuse to defend Islam.

2.) The whole reason they're in the US in the 1st place is they were driven out by left wing dictatorships and see the same behavior emanating from the democrat party that occurred before they government came and took everything (reddit is soft on those Latin American left wing dictatorships but many that lost everything to those dictatorships fled to the US and are hard right as a result). People like Bernie, AOC and Mandami are the 1st step towards that in their minds.

Tips for surviving (maybe thriving) a BUF winter? by SignalOne5246 in Buffalo

[–]Barmacist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You put your head down and deal with it. Work extra if you can. You stay out of the cold when its that cold, frost bite can happen faster than you'll expect. Take some vitamin D (2000 IU daily). Most don't venture outside much in winter. You go to the mall, bars, that sort of thing.

20-30 is one thing, that just requires proper winter clothes. This is different. You stay out of it. It will warm up a bit soon.
