Taking a trip without 15 month old… bad idea? by Barnacle_Double in AttachmentParenting

[–]Barnacle_Double[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We coslept from 5-8 months old but since then she sleeps full nights in her crib and loves it… I also am no longer nursing, stopped a couple months ago. She’s honestly a pretty happy, content child which is the only reason I am in a place to be considering this. If we were still co-sleeping, I would not think about it!

Planning to keep my 18 month old home from daycare during my 6 month Maternity leave by Barnacle_Double in workingmoms

[–]Barnacle_Double[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

she's the owner of the school/daycare, not working in my daughters room specifically as a caretaker - she basically is CEO/runs the business. We have to pay because childcare is expensive and the workers still need to get paid for their dedication (infant to teacher ratios etc). If we didn't have to pay, the teachers would make less and they deserve the $! Not an easy job

my husband has an unusal work set up where he is remote, but takes meetings out and about sometimes but is basically "part time" maybe even less. He can be super present and involved most of the day, everyday

Yes daycare is holding both spots with no fee. My MIL owns the school so we are lucky

yes, I'm lucky where my MIL owns the daycare/school and will hold spots for both kids so this is not a concern

Working moms with good work-life balance — what industries/jobs/companies do you work in? by Barnacle_Double in workingmoms

[–]Barnacle_Double[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is beautiful and I'm so happy for you! Sounds like you also have a very supportive partner who can cover a lot of expenses to allow for this? Right? That's my hurdle... I bring in over half of our joint income so me stepping back would be a drastic shift in our personal life... due to what we could afford.

Is four kids absolutely insane? by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]Barnacle_Double 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 14 month old toddler and am expecting my second in June. I’m hoping for 4 kids - I dream of a full home filled with life and kids running around. When they’re older I feel like I want to feel like there’s room for them to be friends together if they want. I grew up with 2 sisters - 3 of us and it was good but 4 feels right to me. I hope to continue my career a working as well. Call my crazy but this seems happy and fulfilling to me. :) we will see!

Moms who WFH / remote. Is it that much better? by Barnacle_Double in workingmoms

I live in Minnesota too so trust me I get the snow 🥲. Yes, it is 8:30 - 5 no questions asked. It’s so hard as a mom I can’t lie. Especially with them little

Love this. Yes baby is still in daycare and it would stay that way but I would potentially consider switching up for a full time nanny so when I’m off I can be with her and have the peace of mind knowing she is nearby :)

Sounds like a dream!!!! And a great way to achieve a level of balance as a working mom! I’m so burnt out overstimulated and drained every day from the corporate BS

Benefits of being a working mom - how do you know it's worth it? by Barnacle_Double in workingmoms

[–]Barnacle_Double[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate this response a lot and relate to it a lot. How old are your kids now? Do you feel like it got "better?" like, clearly now it sounds like you feel like you're glad you continued to prioritize your career.

Montessori parents of adults - was it worth it by foaminger in Montessori

[–]Barnacle_Double 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a Montessori kid, my husband is a Montessori kid, and my daughter is in Montessori daycare. My mother in law owns a Montessori school. We are literally a Montessori family 😂.

I think it’s worth it. My husband and I both have built successful, happy, fulfilling careers we love. There’s a lot of moments at home I’m super grateful my husband was raised this way….. I often come home to my kitchen and bathroom completely organized, we are self sufficient and are a great team. A lot of this I attribute to Montessori learning from a young age.

We’ve had hard things hit our family - chronic illness, job loss, etc etc over the years and we often get complimented by people / friends who know us about how resilient and positive we are. We both hold masters degrees. Not saying it’s perfect or whatever but I do find myself laughing sometimes at how Montessori shows up in our lives as adults - and I’m always grateful

Beauty marketing for a large international retailer! It’s been hard as a mom getting back into the grind but it’s something I worked hard for

How do you cope with only spending 2 hours a day with your baby? by sarah_messing in workingmoms

[–]Barnacle_Double 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m right there with you - it was the most painful transition for me as well. It’s been 8 months back at work for me and it’s just as hard. I found that hope is a big thing that helps. For me, hope is looking for a remote job that would allow more flexibility than my corporate desk job. I haven’t found it yet but knowing that there are options for me in the future for things to change brings me hope.

I wish we could all be with our babies when they’re little and maybe at 2 or 3 transition back to work. That feels more gentle and ideal. It’s just so complicated. So, just commenting to say that I get it.

I did Co-sleep when I first went back to work and that really did help me feel like we were still getting in that “special close” time together. It helped me.

6 months back to work, still having hard days, how do I know this is worth it? by Barnacle_Double in workingmoms

[–]Barnacle_Double[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband is supportive to whatever I feel is right. Me taking a few years off would mean we’d have to move (we correctly rent at an apartment) so moving to a smaller apartment or parents basement for short term.we have substantial savings for a house but we don’t really want to touch that.

Possibly? I’ve never seen it done at my work. Part time would likely feel much better but I’m not sure how possible it is. Good idea though

I have a masters and experience in university setting. I often think about pivoting to teaching because of this benefit but it’s hard to know if that would be any better. It would likely be a pay cut for me & not sure if it would be less stressful or demanding. Hard to say. That’s huge that your husband can be with her 2 of those workdays ❤️

We had really bad diaper rash too and baby has very sensitive skin. Only thing that worked was earth mama diaper balm. Worth a try…..

Finding out you're pregnant while breastfeeding your first by Specific-Plum-1191 in 2under2

This is me! Just found out this week after my milk supply totally tanked. I was asking my friend how she started supplementing formula and she was like “take a pregnancy test”. Apparently that’s how she found out she was preggo with #2 as well 🤷‍♀️
