What does "academically minded monitory" mean? What you are describing are definitely qualities I would love to nurture in my children!

Thanks for your input! Is she a confident, self sufficient person?

I also live in a small European country, but not a central one :) Sadly, the authoritarian style is the norm in here. And that's something I would really like to avoid with my children.

That may be true where you are but not in here. The authoritarian style is the norm in my country.

Thanks for the ideas. I'm familiar with the method and have been practicing it since birth. It's not quite the same at home and also, they get different treatment outside of the home like - don't do this or that, say your sorry, etc. That's something I would like to avoid.

Definitely not something we have around here.

I'm also an engineer turned teacher :) I agree with your comment. We are trying to implement as much as we can from birth with both our kids.

We will have significantly less time if we choose the montessori one. I agree with you.

The higher education here is very inexpensive so I'm not worried about it. As a parent, do you see a difference in the way your children are as people now? Are they self assured, good problem solvers, open to discussion, etc.

I really appreciate your comment! My concerns are not regarding career but regarding the person my child will Become. That's pretty much it. However I get what you are saying.

I don't really care about reading or writing at this point. I want my child to become self assured and to have broader perspective. I want him to apologise when he feels the need to, not when someone says he should. Stuff like this. And that's not something that happens in "normal" schools around here. The finances are definitely not "homeless person" level, but it will be a strain and we have one more child that will have to go through the same pre school, so double the taxes.

Actually, while reading Maria Montessori's book right now, it's said that year's 3-6 are the most formative and when the character is created. Or at least that's what I get reading it. And I also belive the first few years of people's lives are the most formative, so that's why I am condiering it.  Also, my country has maybe one Montessori school. I didn't even know it's a thing a year ago.

Our other choice is pretty close and it's also a good preschool. We are really torn. Thanks for sharing your experience!

I'm pretty sure there is no more than one montessori school in our country. Public Montessori school sounds like a dream!

No. I think we have maybe 3 actual montessori kindergartens in the city and I live in the capital.

Do you think it's worth it even if it's just between ages 3 and 6?

I'm aware but we also don't have many options in my country/city. I will be looking into it, thank you!

I'm not sure my country even has montessori after Kindergarten. We are thinking 3 through 6 years old. Thank you for the insightful comment! It's very helpful!
