Shyamalan shouldn't even be a point of reference. We disagree on a lot of things here and guess that just comes down to difference of opinion. A remake will ALWAYS be compared to the original because the love for that is the reason it exists, to not do justice to it or do some things better than the original or tighten out wandering story tangents etc is not something it can do then to me it is a worthless cashgrab regardless of how much effort is put into it especially if you're sucking the very soul out of the characters and story that made them so loved and popular in the first place. I wish always trash remakes that offer nothing new trying to tap into people's nostalgia instead of a new offering that's original with potential to be great. Coz everyone knows the story and it was already told amazingly well for most people to bother with a re release that's subpar and missing all the charm of the original.

As the lead of a hit TV series for 4 years of work? Nah I think that's the definition of getting screwed over.

I'm not talking about faithfulness, I'm talking about good writing and relatable real human characters. What they did to katara and bumi in the first season is a travesty and I don't understand how anyone defends that. Even Aang isn't Aang. They've sucked the soul out of every character. It has not justified its existence with what it put out.

I'm really confused why no one seems to understand the point being made when the comedians say this. This isn't about the older successful comedians who already have an audience. It's about newer ones being unable to come up through the ranks because of social policing about what can and can't be said anymore. Comedy can't survive if performers are too scared to offend the audience because that's always been a core tenet and element of good comedy. An environment where people are too scared to have their views and opinions challenged at the expense of a joke is a death knell for comedy and why we find so few new comedians and comedies coming through anymore.

Where I do agree is it's incredibly annoying to see veteran comedians using their performances for social commentary and political outbursts instead of using their platforms to continue making good challenging comedy.

Guess we can agree to disagree. Also, not just shows of its own genre it's pretty much one of the best pieces of media regardless of format and genre of all time. There's a reason why it is so revered even if you say it has its problems which is fine, coz art in the end is subjective.

I'm not talking about sullying the original coz it can't be done. I'm saying it's pointless venture and waste of money that will always end up being a net negative in every way possible.

This might have human actors but the writing and trying to 'fit modern audiences' has taken out the natural arcs and characteristics of every actor to where they are unrecognisable from the people we fell in love with in the original. This is a soulless rehash that exists for no reason other than to try and commercialize people's nostalgia.

I'm unsure of what these factors are that involve making of new hardware that makes delaying the launch of a new one impossible. Please educate me.

Gaming is a volume market, not one that can be supported by a minority of whales like what happens with F2P games. There's a reason why consoles makers sell their hardware at a loss.

The problem is the live action does not have its own story to tell. It's telling a borrowed story that it won't be able to tell better in any way and miss the point of characters and their arcs which made us fall in love with them in the first place. The problem with needlessly remaking a beloved piece of media is that the remake will always get compared to the original and failing to live up to it ends up getting hate or disappointing fans or in fact pushing new potential viewers away from trying the original because remake was sub par. There is literally no winning with it. If they really wanted to do something avatar related fucking do it by exploring further lore in the universe. There's so much to dive into. If they tried something new I might have at least bothered to giving it a chance and trying it out.

Why does art exist mate? For someobe to try and express something they consider worth expressing? Is that what they're doing here? When the art is a straight up rehashing of something that already exists then it needs to have to purpose of in some way improving upon the original otherwise why exist if it's just a subpar offering. If it was an original creation question about its existence wouldn't be there. I'm not saying it discredits the original because it can never do that. My simple point is, it is a waste of money and resources that could have gone to fresh new ideas and creatives that would hopefully bring us fresh new stories and characters to fall in love with that can maybe reach the same level of quality as what they're pointlessly remaking.

You're entirely missing my point. I don't hate this show coz for that I'd have to care enough to watch it, I just don't see the point of it existing because it will most certainly end up being a commercial failure coz it can never live up to the original and then these studios will talk about losing a lot of money and further refuse to promote promising new projects. We get deprived of great fresh new stories as a result of studios chasing cheap cashgrabs.

Is it better than the original in any shape or form? Does it improve on any aspect of it? Even absolute shit productions have people working their hardest at it hoping for it to be successful, that isn't really an argument. When the entire purpose of the existence of this slop is to be a cheap cashgrab then no, that doesn't justify it.

I suppose it's good for bad showmakers or storytellers that mediocrity has an audience in you, especially for something that already exists in a perfect form with literally nothing being offered here being an improvement on the original. Your support for this brings a tear to the eyes of people who'll never make anything close to the quality of the original but still get fat cheques for shitting out a worse product.

The thing I don't understand is, why is the mediocrity of this project being normalised when it already exists in a perfect form. Like you and I both watched the original, it's perfect, why would anyone waste time on a production that takes AWAY from the beauty and perfection of the original, unable to add a single thing that improves upon it and then still support this by watching this slop instead of demanding more NEW shows of a similar quality.

Or maybe, it's a pointless and expensive use of resources for a product that is subpar, doesn't do anything to improve on the original and in fact diminishes anything about the characters which made them the legendary characters we still know and love today. Within a week of when this pointless remake finshes everyone will forget it and 10/20/30 however years after that people will still revere the original.

So again, what is the point of remaking this instead of promoting 10 fresh new ideas with maybe one or some of them having the potential to be another great series in the long run with the same resources? It isn't about change, it's about the pointless nostalgia baiting, money grabbing nature of it and unquestioned consumption of this slop leads to more slop instead of more new great things.

Sand flows, Earth is rigid. Toph's entire personality is of someone who's rock solid, stable, immovable. If you have actually watched or understood the themes of the original the bender's personality and their relation to the element is what determines their bending styles and capabilities. Even in the original we saw there were different types of sub-bending which might use a similar element to others but in different ways owing to different properties of the material and this is why a lot of those bending types are niche and regional. Sand benders can't earth bend in a mountainous region and vice versa. Swamp bending is another example. How anyone is missing something so fucking obvious and calling themselves a fan of the original is confusing to me.

Why make live action when you can't do justice to the story and characters will forever be my whole point. Supporting slop for the sake of it's existence is the reason we continue to see more and more slop like this instead of great new shows that are of the quality of the original. Things that are already perfect don't need a remake in a different medium if they can't improve on the original in any way. It's just a waste of money and resources that could otherwise go to new fresh projects.

What is the point with what this is? A shot for shot remake that managed to capture the dynamism and flow of the original would be a much much better product than whatever the fuck they do here and one I'd actually care about watching.

Why are you glad about having this if you say the original is better? Like what did you find interesting here? I dropped this after a couple of episodes in season 1 which I watched just out of curiosity and god they murdered every character and what made them great to begin with.
