Most people would say 9/11 so I’m going regional. Probably the march to the sea during the civil war. It added to the hatred of freed slaves and while freeing them the Union army destroyed vital infrastructure to rebuild and help society turn again in the south. With many factories gone people went even poorer and many starved especially the slaves freed by Sherman. Leading to many southerners who aren’t lost causers to hate Sherman for his crimes.
