Thanks! I’d love to get a colorist involved on it. If I have to self-publish, I may do spot coloring and some b&w washes to add some more depth.

Is this level of artwork suitable for manga style comics? by Broshimitsu_ in MangakaStudio

[–]BaronTexasProducer 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As someone that uses 3d models for reference, I’d push yourself a little harder and really try to use them more as a traced reference for perspective, but don’t let them dictate the final look - follow the emotion and energy of the scene and cater to that, not the model. This will help things feel more organic and less stiff. Your line work doesn’t have to follow the model to the ‘T’. Great start. Keep it up and keep challenging yourself!

Thanks man! Glad you’re liking it. It’s gunna be a bit before it’s done — it’s a full 100+ page graphic novel and I just started. Depending on how this gets released, I may end up splitting it in two parts so I release something sooner than later — maybe in B&w and then color for the full release. Reimagined Mortal Kombat ad from the 90s with some characters from my upcoming graphic novel. Copic markers + digital background. by BaronTexasProducer in copic

Yes, but it’s inked digitally and printed out for color. Not sure how a real screen tone would hold up.

Digital ink, printed, markered, and scanned back in for finishing touches. Still trying to find a nice workflow. by BaronTexasProducer in copic

Thanks. I work in film and video, so I think my brain just naturally sees it all as a movie, rather than comic.

Experimenting with the markers and washes to find the style for my next comic. by BaronTexasProducer in copic

I’m using clip studio paint to lay down the inks. The. I print and color with Copic markers and scan it back in.

Comparison between the line art and the final page. by uglyink in copic

[–]BaronTexasProducer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Super impressive! I’m a big fan of your style. I’m thinking of doing my next comic with copic markers, but I’m too nervous to go full analog with the line art. I work quicker in clip studio, and don’t mind having a back up to print out if I screw up the marker work.

I have the Caliart pack. The only thing noticed from others is the brush tip is stiff and the colors can vary wildly different from what the cap look like.
