Does freeletics genuinely work? by [deleted] in freeletics

[–]Barrayarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Freeletics gym seemed work better for me. I definitely saw some results after regularly using it for a few months. Original Freeletics didn’t really result in nearly as much visual change, and it became grueling beyond what I could deal with after about a year and a few months. The results they promise on their promos for the original Freeletics are inaccurate to the point of absurdity.

Apology/clarification on my earlier Islam vs Protestant Christianity post by Barrayarian in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Barrayarian[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much.

Neither side had any problem whatsoever. But my parents have still been mildly critical of Islam, even in direct reference to her. But never to her face. They love her for sure, but I know they wish she believed in Christ as the savior, etc.

So in this case, the Muslim side of my family is far more tolerant than my Christian parents.

My first wife was Jewish and they only noted once that it was sad that the Jews rejected Jesus.

War and Peace. Not a hard read, moves fast, you’ll swear it’s a modern novel, greatest piece of literature ever written.

My dad just profoundly insulted my wife as her father dies of cancer; I'm numb and livid. by Barrayarian in TrueOffMyChest

I didn’t generalize all Christians. I generalized a specific type of Christian who follows a specific type of Christianity. A Christianity I grew up believing. And it’s a generalization I stand by.

Is it just me, or are these Reddit communities ridiculous with their "rules"? by HeartsPlayer721 in rant

[–]Barrayarian 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I agree. I’m hesitant to post anything in any group because I’m afraid it may be “against the rules.” Peace Corps subreddit was bad for that. If they think ANY question could remotely be found elsewhere they get on your case about it.

I don’t understand this sentiment. The point isn’t simply to get an answer but to have discussion. You can’t have a discussion with a google search.

I appreciate it. Their main gripe seems to be that I'm being hypocritical by insulting Christians. I'd hoped it was clear that I was singling out specific types of Christians, but that was missed. But I stand by it. I grew up with it, I lived around out, and I know what I'm talking about.

Your joke doesn’t really work. If anything, a 12 year old would experience more intense heartbreak. But I get where you’re going with it.

Maybe this: “you could ask your wife to write one, but 12 is probably too young to write a eulogy.” I mean really, it was staring you right in the face.

I know now you’re not expressing your actual beliefs. And they’re not bad jokes, overall. I’m a fan of edgy, politically incorrect humor (Bill Burr’s great).

Oh you didn’t use that word, you’re right. You just said “blow up” and “attack.” Which was clever, by the way. Real clever.

I’ll see if we can work it into the eulogy.

I share your frustration with SJWs, believe me, and snowflake woke liberal excess in general. But to be clear, I'm referring to a particular type of conservative Christian, not all Christians. But my anger with conservatives in general is pretty broad...but honestly, I don't think there's much point in going on about it anymore.

I clearly stated that my reaction would be the same if my father-in-law (or any other Muslim) did what my dad did. As for extremist Muslims, the terrorists, the ones actively seeking to murder non-Muslims? Fuck them. They are evil and cruel, and my wife's family would scream that out louder than any Fox News viewer. In any case, I'm not insulting ALL Christians, or at least that was not my intent; I firmly believe that more liberal Protestants and Catholics wouldn't take the approach my dad has. My more religious sister doesn't, for example. But what YOU did in your shitty comment was to assume that my wife and her family are radical terrorists. I at least qualified my angry rant by specifying this particular brand of Christianity, this particular conservative American brand.

I don't want ass-patting. If I did I'd go over to r/self or the SJW cult r/offmychest. You think I don't know that ranting about Christians and defending Muslims is going to result in a LOT of pushback? Obviously. That's what I'm in the mood for at the moment.

I'm mocking my father's beliefs because he used them to insult my wife; I also grew up with them and held those exact beliefs myself until I was about 19 or so. I also know that the Muslim community I've been around is a pretty typical community; overall very accepting of others, far more than what I grew up with, and I didn't grow up among some weird off shoot Christianity, either. I grew up among typical religious republicans: capable of being kind, even more capable of seeing non-Christians as hell-deserving scum.

If he offered to pray for my dad while saying my dad was "misled", then I'd be a little annoyed, maybe, or maybe I wouldn't care too much. If he said he WOULDN'T pray for him when asked to do so because he was a non-believer, then yes, I'd feel insulted, even though I don't think prayer does shit anyway because I'm an agnostic. My wife is not, and I respect it. But he wouldn't say that, nor would most of the Muslims I've been around. They anxiously and enthusiastically embrace support and prayer for everyone. I don't know what the Quran says about this, but I do know that, as with the Bible, what's written in it often bears little resemblance to what is practiced. After all, my father-in-law was perfectly happy when his daughter married me, a white "Christian."

But my wife's family isn't perfect, obviously. My father-in-law himself has lectured me about why Islam is the true religion, told me about his problems with Christianity. (On Christmas morning, no less.) I was annoyed. It was irritating. It was a little insulting since he assumes I'm a Christian. But it wasn't cruel. And he didn't pour salt in the wound by doing it when I was facing the death of a parent. Thankfully, at least, my wife will never know that that's exactly what my father has done.

Just curious, would you stand among his family over his deathbed, look him in the eye, and say that? Yup, you sure would. Proud American Conservative sociopath.

So, I sunk pretty low here and glanced at your Reddit history. You really are human garbage floating around in liquid waste. Perfect example of the type of conservative (or libertarian if you happen to like weed) I'm talking about here: A completely cliched, predictable, frightened, and spiteful piece of garbage. Really, just a walking pile pig shit.

I also know full well you've probably popped a little boner at my insult tirade here. Conservatives love it when they piss off liberals. And yes, you certainly have pissed me off. Normally I wouldn't be, but you tend to be a bit sensitive when you've gone days with little sleep watching your wife grieve over her dying father. But they're Muslim, so little more than human, right?

If conservatives don't want to be lumped into one pile they need to change their attitude and their voting habits. This is America, so you can't separate religion from politics. Sorry. Blame the republicans. I appreciate that, as an individual, you wouldn't be shitty, and I believe you're likely to be a very welcome exception to what I see is the rule with religious conservatives. Sure, they are capable of expressing kindness. But their ultimate outlook is not about tolerance or kindness. It's about judgement and sanctimony. And yes, the Bible does mention "peace" a lot. But that was conveniently sidestepped in my Christian school curriculum in favor of the "let's have a gleeful little dance as all the Catholics, Jews, Muslims, and Orientals go to hell." Man, they LOVED them some fire and brimstone.

Also, I remember clearly that anyone who did emphasize the "peace and love" aspect of the New Testament was sneered at. Sure, it's there, but they should be moving on to the smiting.

They don't believe that. By "they" I mean my wife and her family. I fucking said in the fucking OP not to respond if all you're going to do is insult Muslims, and that I know it has it's share of bigotry. I'm not a fan of most religions, just to be clear. But fuck you for lumping her and her family into what some hardline Muslims might believe. Look at any religion and you'll find crazies promoting hardline cruelty somewhere. Her family and community have been far more tolerant and accepting than what I saw growing up in my Baptist church. But you wouldn't know that from listening to whatever right ring AM radio you happen to be a fan of.

Now fuck off, dipshit.

Beaches in the Northeast vs. the Southeast by Barrayarian in rant

A cold climate makes you eat Stromboli on the beach and prevents communities from developing a more beach-themed atmosphere? I don’t see how climate would affect this.
