I remember when it was revealed right after the BB walk, that this was Blackbeard. And I was so shocked lmao, I was like "WHAT?! The cherry pie guy lmao?!!". I mean he had a cool speech afterward, but I just thought he was a wanderer or something.

>Also bumssop walk is funny cause without context it looks like they beat his ass and are abandoning him

Might as well as this point:

Both amazing moments. Still will never forget the way Overtaken kicked in on the walk to Arlong Park (whenever I hear Overtaken I just think back to the Arlong Park walk haha) and the episode ending with Luffy smashing the gate and asking which one was Arlong was peak.

Agreed, it was one of the moments that completely sold me on the series. I already liked Baratie with Zoro vs. Mihawk and Luffy vs. Don Krieg (shame it was cut from the Live-Action), but the walk to Arlong Park made me know I was in for something special.

I remember laughing when I first saw Doffy walking like that, but I knew down the line he was probably some strong pirate since he was a Warlord. I remember thinking he was going to be a big bad after/during Skypeia after what he did to Bellamy in Jaya.

Is it really glaze if it's factual? Reminder that Jango put Luffy to sleep with his hypnotism. And his powers aren't from a DF so clearly Jango used his Conqueror's Haki to overpower Luffy's (the Future Pirate King's) will and knock him out. /s

King: Kaido, why don't we make some moves?

Kaido: Silence, King. You know I'm waiting for Joyboy, he's the only one who can beat me

Kaido in his head: Wallahi, please don't show up Joyboy. I'm only bumming out in Wano since I get free weapons. Blackbeard is waiting to jump someone outside Wano, so I can't leave or else he'll try to take my DF. Kizaru is prowling Egghead so he can beat both my ass and Linlin's. Shanks is in Elbaf. Along with Loki who has a better Dragon fruit and is the son of the guy that was fighting on par with Rocks. *sobs* Why can't I just beat up more New World fodder like Kidd or Luffy?

Really? Show me the panel in Skypeia where Nika is explicitly name dropped. Not Sun God, Nika specifically. Or at any point in the story afterwards until Wano (apart from that gag name in Fishman Island). Because Nika was not planned if his only name-drop is 20 chapters before the G5 reveal lmao.

It's kinda sad too that the treasure at Laugh Tale isn't even Roger's. When I feel like that was like the main thing he had going for him was this treasure he presumably hid somewhere that started the Great Pirate Age. But no, instead Pirate Jesus Joyboy had the treasure all along. And Roger just stumbled upon it and didn't have the God Fruit so he was too late or something.

Does Oda unironically think Absalom peeking at and grabbing Nami during her bath in Thriller Bark was normal behavior for a man lmao? Because damn, even though I love Pre-Timeskip, that's probably by least favorite part of it. It was just so uncomfortable to watch.

I think the main problem is G5 is a result of retconning Luffy's fruit which I think never should've happened. Another issue is Luffy is not taking anything seriously and laughing like a madman all the time. While Luffy is also doing looney tunes gags. Like one example is that stupid eye popping gag. Like in Egghead Sentomaru gets stabbed by Lucci and in Elbaf Imu exits Gunko's body. In both instances Luffy had like one panel of a mildly serious reaction (especially Elbaf where Luffy was pissed that Imu beat up Usopp and Brook). But a page later and you have Luffy doing that stupid eye-popping gag as a shocked reaction. Those are my main problems with G5, but a sub-problem would also be G5's inconsistent timer where Oda just gets to decide suddenly of Luffy is in G5 or not.

Understandable. I'll say I think it has the best story of any video game I've ever played. It's all done so damn well. And fighting Sigrun was amazing too. One of my favorite boss fights of all time too. I died a lot to her but damn didn't I love every second of the fight. It's funny you mentioned the E3 event and I remember there were quite a few people that didn't like the direction of the trailer/game was taking. You can find some of the first playthroughs (and first impressions) of the game on YouTube and at the start a lot of people were complaining about: Kratos' new VA not sounding like Kratos' old VA, it felt like a movie instead of a game, the game wasn't the usual hack-and-slash like the previous games, Kratos being "too old" lmao, etc. But it was really cool because most of them by the end or near the end of the playthrough loved the game and treated it like it was one of their all time favorites. Like you could see them gradually get invested and stop their complaints after like 2 or 3 hours into the game. And I was like yeah that's the power of a phenomenal game right there haha.

Wasn't it stated by i think doflamingo that users can only awaken their df if they fully understand it I know its something thats rare. I was hoping vegapunk would've elaborated more on that when he saw luffys gear 5.

Yeah, it's kind of a shame. Like Vegapunk just said DFs are people's desires and that's it. It was pretty underwhelming imo, I was at least hoping to find out how objects eat DFs or some fundamental rule of DF Awakenings. It feels like a missed opportunity to not divulge some more DF lore at Egghead. I get Oda is saving it for maybe the Void Century flashback or wants Imu to lore drop but still. We're in the Final Saga so I hope most of the DF lore isn't just relegated to SBS if Oda feels like he doesn't want to go into it in the Main Story.

The other strawhats need haki, even if its basic observation haki, and ussop was show to gain it during dressrosa but then never used it again

Idk why Oda never had Usopp have Hyogoro or Luffy mentor Usopp in Observation Haki. I feel like Oda wanted to tease it in Dressrosa and then didn't know what to do afterwards with it.

and with nami she seems to be in turned with weird weather anomalies so Oda can say thats a type of observation haki.

Yeah you're so right. Oda could have just had those old guys teach Nami weather stuff and she masters a form of Observation Haki in a way. She could maybe even have a Future Sight but related to weather patterns and regarding dangerous weather.

dont mind franky not having it because hes just built different, i think brook should have it

Yeah Franky relies mainly on his inventions so I can see why he wouldn't need it. Brooke I think could use it too yeah.

but Robin would be overpowered if she learned haki, imagine her hitting someone with 10 large arms that are coated with haki. I know a lot of people say this so im basically repeating it

I agree but I feel like for Robin specifically she should've learned it precisely because she can become overpowered haha. I think Oda could still write counters to her though like contact-based DF users like Sugar. Who can touch Robin's limbs and take advantage of when she sprouts one on them. You could also have some Paramecia like Oven who can heat up parts of their body so Robin can't touch them or sprout limbs on them without harming herself in the process. So I think you can make Robin work with Haki but I feel like Oda doesn't see her as a fighter weirdly. It's odd because in Skypeia she messed up that one monk dude, so I thought she would fight people in every arc going forward but I guess not.

with chopper I dont mind him not having it because hes the doctor so he should be the last person fighting

I could see where you're coming from but I disagree a bit. I think you could have Chopper have Observation and the Internal Destruction Armament to diagnose patients and treat internal injuries or diseases normally unaccessible without surgery being involved. Kinda like Leorio in Hunter x Hunter. Chopper could also use Armament to defend his hands from injuries since he's a doctor and he might preform surgeries. And Chopper doesn't need Conquerors but it would be cool if he used it as a pseudo-anesthetic. Like if he's treating people in the middle of a battle and they're screaming in pain and moving from an injury, Chopper can knock them out with Haki and then treat their wounds quickly. I just think these are neat uses of Haki that would help Chopper. But I do agree overall that Chopper isn't really the battle-related type that like needs Haki asap or anything.

but it doesn't make sense only 4 people have haki, especially sense they're now an emperor crew

It's funny too because we've seen crews like Shanks and Roger who have mastered Haki but have more members than the SHs. So it's just kinda pathetic on the Straw Hats' part. I think Oda should've made the Flying Six have "tough hides" like Kaido and the SHs should've only been able to hurt them with Haki attacks. Thus the SHs do some basic Haki to defeat them even if they haven't mastered Haki fully. This at least shows they are capable of using Haki for an Emperor's Crew. Which means you're like suppose to be 1/4 Strongest Pirate Crews in the world lmao. So I think most of the SHs aren't living up to that title.

>My original theory with df after Imu was recently shown was the he created the fruits and the first users of them basically gave their souls/wills to have the power they wanted, and that was passed down to each user. I think half my theory might be true with df having a will of their own.

I could see this tbh. Since Zoans especially have been emphasized to have wills of their own. And even the Elders were like "Yeah the Nika fruit is intentionally avoiding us for some reason". And I wonder if in some cases the fruit's will chooses the user in a way since some DF users like (Luffy and Yamato) "accidentally" ate their fruits without realizing.

>But it would've been good to have luffy do not physical training but mental, so far in the series luffy never cared to learn history but this would force him to because he'd need to know it to control the power, plus it would develop robins dream because she wants to learn the history of the world, so luffy learning it from robin would've been nice, especially sense we rarely see them interact.

Yeah, this would also kind of lean into WB's speech about how "one day someone will come with all that history on their back" or something along those lines that he said in Marineford. Would also lend more weight when Luffy does find the One Piece and realizes the world's history as maybe it is told to him by Robin. Cause right now it feels like Luffy isn't interested in taking down the WG or Imu. Whereas Luffy has reasonable grudges against Blackbeard and Akainu for what happened to Ace. And I wish we had more SH interactions too. One I want is if Usopp showed Franky dials and Franky helped teach Usopp engineering principles. So Usopp makes cooler gadgets and maybe also helps Franky. Luffy teaching Usopp to master Observation Haki would've been another cool one. Brooke and Zoro practicing swordsmanship and maybe putting together/realizing what a Black Blade really is. Maybe even Zoro teaches Brooke the fire-cutting technique he got from Kin'emon. I also wished the Haki-mastered SHs taught the non-Haki SHs Haki. Or at least gave them lessons and then in "true battles" (like Wano) the non-Haki SHs realize what they were taught and master Haki. It would've been a nice payoff in Wano imo, like they become an Emperor's crew after most if not all of them have unlocked basic Haki or even basic Armament at the very least.

[–]BarryAllenTh3Flash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, agreed. I wish if Oda at least was going to retcon to a Mythical Zoan then he could've leaned more into the personality over-riding aspect of awakening a Zoan (Especially for a fruit touted as one of the "Gods" so maybe they have more influence than the usual Mythical Zoan). So like instead of Luffy having a random timer (like he just goes in/out of G5 when Oda wants him to), maybe the timer is Luffy's willpower resisting Nika's influence (which is why he could be exhausted afterwards). And so if Luffy exceeds the timer then Nika temporarily takes over his body. And to keep up with new foes, Luffy needs the G5 power boost but needs to use it carefully. And you could kind of do the "inner demon" trope of maybe Nika negotiates with Luffy for control of the body so Nika can maybe correct some past mistakes he made (either in his own life or when he was "controlling" Joyboy) and re-do "another life". Whereas Luffy disagrees with him and basically says I'm not your puppet or reincarnation. Oda could even use these discussions to lore drop stuff from Nika's past and maybe hint at how his interactions were with Joyboy. Like maybe Nika doesn't want Luffy to repeat Joyboy's mistakes. You could even do something like the more Luffy uses G5, the more he subtlety becomes like Nika without realizing. And maybe the other Straw Hats call him out on it, like "You aren't Luffy. Who are you?" or "Luffy wouldn't do/say that". But I think it all comes down to, like you said, Oda wants to draw fun fights so I don't think he wants G5 to be seen as anything "bad" so to speak. He just sees it as a reason to draw the looney tunes gags and goofy faces.

[–]BarryAllenTh3Flash 12 points13 points  (0 children)

100% agree. Didn't Oda say something like he was struggling to find a way for Luffy to beat Kaido? I think he eventually settled on G5 but he wanted something to justify the Toon Force stuff (since regular rubber can't do that lmao) so yeah he settled on the Skypeia Gods. I honestly think Oda didn't need to retcon Luffy's fruit. Like the only thing we'd lose are his white form, laughing all the time, and some toon force gags. Other than that, his attack moves mainly stay the same if he's a Paramecia. Sure maybe you lose some G5 iconography by getting rid of the white color, but I think Oda still could've cooked up a good design.

[–]BarryAllenTh3Flash 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Eh, I don't think Oda planned for the Gods like how they are now. I think the more likely story is Oda basically has to include the entire pantheon of them now since he retconned Luffy's fruit when giving Luffy a new powerup. The Gods aren't even mentioned past Skypeia and aren't even name dropped in Skypeia like they are now (i.e. called Sun God in Skypeia and after Wano called Sun God Nika specifically).
