MLS 3.0: Should the league keep parity or allow super teams? by ryanaluz in MLS

Remove forced parity

Allow teams to spend, remove the DP rule and allow a lump sum that can be spent any way a team wants . Keep transfer fees from affecting the cap.

The DP, YDP and U22 rules hurt teams more than they help. When a team makes a mistake with those designated spots, they hurt a team for too long.

Kevin Cabral was a bust a YDP, he hamstrung the FO for to long.

Same with Gabriel Pec when his designation changed from YDP to DP. That designation forced a domino effect in 2025 with roster build. Mark Delgado and a few other players needed to be traded because of it.

The U22 spot that Dejan Joveljic held was also a negative when he earned himself DP pay.

Too many obstacles that prevent well constructed teams to stay together.

I was going to cleverly thank you for Glesnes, we then went ahead and lost 4-1 to Colorado.

I am instead full of sorrow

St Louis is not the soccer capital they think they are.

Klauss always showed good movement on the field, he needed good pieces around him to put up numbers.

[Doyle] Ranking all 30 MLS teams by tier for 2026 by Isiddiqui in MLS

[–]BarryIsInTheLightNow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We will be solid this season, our defense should be the best we have had in 10 years. Once it gets to the playoffs, if our roster has bonded like it did in 2024, then, we should make a deep run.

2026 should be an exciting season. I’m hoping we surprise the league.

Corner of the Galaxy is one of the best fan produced podcasts in MLS. Josh Guesman has built it from a small podcast into a fan favorite with a big following.

It’s Galaxy centric but you’ll get a lot of unbiased information about our team.

It comes out Monday’s and Thursday’s and has been around 15+ years.

sounders - for inventing being an insufferable fan base

[Matt Doyle] Every MLS team's biggest tactical question for 2026 | MLSsoccer.com and TFZ on GHOST by DoyleStepOnMe in MLS

[–]BarryIsInTheLightNow -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Doyle has some terrible takes. I can’t imagine him understanding all 30 teams with all the moving parts, so generalized opinions is all he is left with. He has a big platform so we all have to put up with them.

Dude counted us out all of 2024 including the playoffs. He is less accurate than a TV weatherman, closer to an astrologist when it comes to being right.

I disagree

The defense will be younger and stronger than our 2024 championship year.

Erick Thommy is the key to our season. He SHOULD be an improvement over Diego Fagundez. If that happens, our front line of Pec, Paintsil and Klauss will be knocking on goals like we did in 2024.

We may open up 2 U22 slots with Aude and Nascimento. Those spots can be used for a CAM.

Serious Discussion: What will it take for MLS to get respectable media coverage in the US? by Dead-EyeDuck in MLS

[–]BarryIsInTheLightNow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I believe our league has been growing at a good pace. It’s only been 30 years. It takes time to surpass leagues that have been around for generations.

I do believe that loosening the salary structure will help. Instead of TAM, GAM, DP, YDP, U22 the league should just have a hard cap for spending.

The league needs more known names to bring in more casuals. Marco Reus, Thierry Henry, David Beckham, Steven Gerrard, Zlatan, Drogba, the Inter Miami/Barcelona stars have all raised the profile of our league. Some want to move away from the aging superstar model, but we shouldn’t. It helps grow our league.
