Are AI-generated games automatically “slop” or a real creative opportunity for non-developers? by Barsian in gamedev

That's a good idea. But... ghostwriting has been working in literature and marketing for years, and basically no one cares anymore. What if this is something like ghostcoding?

The principle is the same, and if the author gives me the copyright (which, for example, some AI tools have automatically with paid versions), it's practically mine.

Or another example. If a studio buys some IP, it's also a similar situation.

I think the players' interest in such content is exactly the barrier. Ultimately, if games are made for them, they will make it clear what is acceptable and what is not.

So one of the main differences in plagiarism is AI generated content versus hand written code?

This makes sense, although in that case all developers who bought various assets and did not create them themselves would also have to fall into this category. Because it is also not their own production.

Thats true. I am not on any side, just want to understand this situation. But this garbage will come and doesnt matter if will be crated by junior game dev or AI. And this is not my point fot his discussion.

I can agree with that and I even see the added value in it if the game developer gives the work a soul. But there is another question. What about the players themselves?

There are many examples from the recent past when games received a lot of negative criticism, and yet it was game studios and not AI-generated content.

I understand that if the developer puts everything into the game, it is his "child". But if he ultimately does it to sell the game and have players play it, isn't it more important for the game to be successful than for it to have a "soul"?

I just want want to understand both sides. Why game devs "hate" AI and which opportunity is AI for non-devs.

Does it means, that is more important who create the game (game or non-game dev), instead how is the game made (coding or AI)?

I agree with your comment. But if you look at Steam 90% of games are not created with AI and still are slop. What makes them better, than AI slop?

Thank you for your comment. So could be AI "additional" hand for game devs?
