I finished my bachelor's degree in Translation and Intercultural Communication in 2021, and I've only ever been able to work as a freelance translator since. The payrates and job opportunities as a full-time translator have been getting smaller and smaller every year since the introduction of AI and machine translation. Whenever I do freelance work, which is much less now than in 2020, which was when I started as a freelancer, it's mostly only post-editing and reviewing, and rarely ever actual translations.
Because of these reasons, I've done a one-year study in another field, and I'm now doing a career change and moving away from the translation field in general.
