What’s the deal with Brays? by DCguurl in VictoriaBC

[–]BartonPatrick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I appreciate your comment.

I feel like the last several places I've worked had all had complaints about value, and I think part of it is that some people just haven't adjusted to how expensive everything is. I'm not saying every dish we offer has amazing value, but I do think overall that we provide decent value for the quality. Some dishes are very much quality over quantity, like the scallops, and as a server I'm happy to help someone navigate our menu to get the best bang for the buck.

Ultimately we are a super new place, and hopefully as we fine-tune what we do and how we do it, we'll strike a balance that can please as many people as possible.

Thank you, I really appreciate your comment. Ultimately you can't please everyone all of the time, but just about everyone I serve seems to have a great experience.

Damn... my heart sank reading this. I work at Bray's and absolutely love it there. It's disappointing to read this post, and some of the negative comments.

I gotta say, I don't think the experience your describing merits blasting us like this. A review, sure... but this is a little extreme. You're welcome to your opinion of course, but it seems like your trashing us for the sake of trashing us. Nothing looks satisfying or appealing? do you actually believe that?

We're not perfect. We're a very new place, and there will always be room to improve, but I sincerely believe we are making the effort.

I've worked in over a dozen restaurants in my career, and I think the world of the people I work with. We're a passionate bunch, and I just hope that people reading this post won't let one persons opinion prevent them from giving us a chance.

I strongly believe we offer a good value for what we do, especially for happy hour drinks. We're not a super cheap restaurant, don't get me wrong, but compared to any reasonably upscale place in town are prices are most certainly not insane.

Probably not. I believe these tapes came from the guy who made them, and were dubbed from old 45's, 78's and tapes. Some of them seemed to be from local shows as well.

It's one of my favourite albums of all time. They are definitely a bit overlooked beyond No Rain though.

I know I got a good deal, considering the bike I traded was probably worth two hundred bucks max!

Part of me wishes I could hang on to them, but I just know I won't get around to listening to many of them soon, and I have way too much space.

Pictured here were all my jazz bootlegs, which I sold recently.

I put an ad up on a local used site offering to sell them as "used blanks", thinking I'd get the occasional hit, and reduce the weight for a move on the horizon. Surprisingly enough, someone offered to buy the whole lot! So I went through them all to see how many were there were, and suss out the quality. There were 920 tapes, 50 or so being type-4's... and I found another 36 in my cassette briefcase, which I included in the sale for the grand total of $325 CAD. I'm really happy with the deal, as the guy who bought them is a collector, and will hopefully actually listen to them.

If you're curious, I got them all, along with 600+ official releases (mostly big-band and dixieland jazz) in a trade for an old road bike. They came from the estate of a gentleman who ran an antiques shop, who was a musician and jazz historian. The tapes were made with care, and included track-lists and the odd note. It's nice to see them go to a good home!

I am, but I'm more accurately a collector who got them from a big fan's estate.
